OAO Royal Rumble Thread Jan/29th/06

Recommended Posts

I think WWE should change the way it hypes up the Rumble match. For them to try and make us believe that mid-carders like Bob Holly have any chance of winning is just stupid!

BREAKING NEWS

Breaking news regarding Sunday's Royal Rumble

Jan. 26, 2006

Mr. McMahon has determined that the Superstars will no longer be drawing their Royal Rumble entry numbers online this Sunday afternoon.

Instead, Mr. McMahon will be personally conducting the drawing himself during the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Since 1993, I have not missed a Royal Rumble, so I just went ahead and placed the order for it on Dish Network. I believe that if I had put it off, I was possibly going to change my mind about buying this show. Here are my wants/predictions:

Who I Want To Win:

-The 2006 Royal Rumble Match

To be honest, I don't have a single guy that I want to win. I'd be happy with RVD, Benoit, Rey, or even Chavo Taker or HBK. As long as Randy Orton or HHH do not win, I'll be happy.

-WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena

I'll be pulling for Edge for sure. For the love of God, do not just put the title back on Cena.

-World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle vs. Mark Henry

I think that just about everyone wants Kurt Angle to win, and I'm no different.

-The Boogeyman vs. JBL

Does it really matter? I like The Boogeyman in a very weird way, but I'm a huge JBL mark. I'll be pulling for JBL in this one.

-Mickie James vs. Ashley - Trish Stratus as special guest referee

I want to see Trish turn heel and help Mickie James pick up the win. I don't really know why they would do this, but whatever.

What I Think WWE Will Do

-The 2006 Royal Rumble Match

Ok, I don't think HHH or TBS will even matter in this match, since I see those two guys being eliminated because of one another. I don't see them giving Benoit another win here, so count him out. We all know RVD's history, so why in the world would they have him come back and instantly win the RR?

I do however think they want the finish of the Rumble to be special, yet again. I see them actually giving the win in this one to Rey Mysterio.

However, I think he'll lose his title shot in a match to Randy Orton, which will the put him in the Wrestlemania title match instead.

I think the final four will be Rey, Chavo, Orton, and RVD.

-WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena

Since Cena lost the title to Edge, the main event storyline has been a lot more interesting, ratings are up, and both Edge and Cena have really improved overall. I see Edge beating Cena and heading to WM as the champ, with a face trying to finally beat him there. I just don't think WWE would go back to how it was before, with Cena as champ...at least not anytime soon.

-World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle vs. Mark Henry

There is no way in hell that Mark Henry is going to win the title, period.

-The Boogeyman vs. JBL

I think they'll actually give Boogey a big win over JBL here, but I really don't see the point in it unless it's leading to a Boogey/Taker match down the road. I don't think the job will hurt JBL either, since it's all so stupid anyway.

-Mickie James vs. Ashley - Trish Stratus as special guest referee

Blah, I think Mickie will win, but it'll be pretty clean and Trish calls it down the middle. The storyline is going to continue, and isn't going to end or really evolve that much at all at the PPV. Because of Trish counting the pin, Mickie will look at it like Trish did it for her and will continue to be crazy over her, and Ashley will continue to show signs of being really pissed at Trish because of what Mickie is doing. To me, this is leading to a 3-way match at WM for the title, or at least on a RAW before then.

Henry would win if he realized that when you pick guys up over your head... just throw them outside the ring, not on the canvas.

It's sad that the WWE is having the most open-ended RR in one of the worst creative periods in their history. This PPV is usually a must-buy for me but I'll probably just dl the Rumble itself because there's nothing on this card worth 35 bucks.*

*The only exception here is the ghost of Eddy Guerrero being the #30 entrant.

I'd enjoy the WWE adding the ghost of Eddy as the third commentary man on Smackdown with Cole and Tazz. They could piece his lines together from old promo's ala Fallout Boy in the Radioactive Man Movie.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Rey Mysterio pumping himself up before the Rumble, then he looks into a mirror and there's Eddy Guerrero... and he offers Rey some inspirational words.

Eddy's voice should be provided by James Earl Jones. If they can't get him, just have Gene Snitsky do it.

HBK is going to be # 1 with Vince picking the numbers. The 30th guy will be Carlito. The winner will be # 11. I don't really want to try and figure out the rest since I'm guessing that the WWE hasn't come up with a plan of their own yet.

Tazz: What do you think about Rey Mysterio's chances, Eddie?

Eddie's Ghost: Viva la raza!

Cole: But didn't you say that you thought Orton had a good chance of winning?

EG: I liiiiied!

I'd try to make it a little better, but that's probably what it'd end up like anyway.

Shawn has been #1, twice now. It was a big hyped aspect of the 2003 rumble so even WWE knows it's been over-done. In fact if Vince is trying to lure Shawn over to "the dark side" (or whatever it was), assisting him in getting #30 makes more sense.

Masters fits #30 more then anyone else does. Look at the history of #30's, they tend to be big hosses. (Tugboat, Warlord, Adam Bomb, Crush, Droese, Taker, Vader, Chyna, Rikishi, 'Taker, Goldberg). So yeah, Masters has that whole hoss thing going for him and it fits his character to be #30 and for us, he has less time in the ring.

While Carlito, who can bump could last 15-20 minutes bumping around.

I think they'll try to put Masters over midmatch in a "cleaning the ring" type spot while they'll save Carlito for the end to eliminate RVD *cringes* to set up that program.

I know this sounds absolutely off the wall, but does anyone think Flair has an outside shot at winning the Royal Rumble? He's basically the #1 face on Raw right now, and it would be quite a story if a 50+ year old man pulled off "the biggest upset of all-time" and won the Rumble.

I just don't see anything else that leads to an entertaining, intriguing feud at WM. Maybe HHH could eliminate Flair only to have him land on the referees who were checking on someone who was injured on the outside. Then, being "the dirtiest player in the game", Flair could sneak back into the ring and eliminate HHH while he was celebrating, leading to a Triple Threat match at WM.

It just seems like it's too early for RVD to win right now, and the whole Smackdown title scene seems like a waste right now considering that they just crowned a new champion in a battle royal a few weeks ago and that champion isn't even guaranteed to make it to Wrestlemania.

I know Flair/Edge/HHH is kind of a weak ME for WM, but it sounds better to me than Edge/HHH or HHH/Cena.

My money is on Lashley having this spot...in fact, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to see him single handedly eliminating Kane, Big Show or even both.

Thank God someone came to their senses and realized doing drawings on WWE.com (especially if they revealed the numbers) was a terrible idea.

It's also good they are showing some drawings on PPV. Last year's segments were pretty good.

I think they'll sacrifice Bobby to Mark Henry again to give both guys something to do once Henry's moved away from the top of the card. Will he eliminate one of those two before then? Possibly, but I still think he'll have less of a run than any of the other hosses on the roster. Having said that, they'll probably let him be one of the final four to spite me.

Shaq is in the Rumble now I think.

"Last night at the AmericanAirlines Arena, RAW Superstar Carlito verbally abused Jason Williams after the Miami Heat suffered a disappointing 107-98 loss to the Phoenix Suns. While the cocky Superstar was berating Williams, Shaquille O'Neal walked up behind Carlito and smashed him with a chair.

WWE.com has retrieved footage of the incident and will post the video later today."

Mark Henry is also participating in the Rumble?

I doubt Shaq will... as he's playing in Houston on Sunday.

He could always say he has a toe injury and go be in the Rumble. He can wear the Mr. America mask. Or his outfit from KAZAAM or STEEL.

Yes.

Karl Malone already forced Kurt Angle to be the only WWE gold medalist.

He won't even have that if Shaq gets in a match.
