NFL Playoffs: Divisional Round

Recommended Posts

If the Colts lose then the Patriots loss annoys me even more. Could have been another home playoff game for the Pats.

Denver played tough last night but with all their mistakes I feel the Patriots beat the Patriots.

They got handled. Is it possible for a Pats fan to just acknowledge that his team got beat, solidly, by a very good team?

It was a close game until the Brady int in the end zone, which resulted in a 14 pt swing. Take away the HIGHLY questionable PI call in the first half and the game is quite possibly closer at that point.

If that game is your definition of a "handling" you either didn't pay attention or don't fully understand football. Denver is a good team, they played a good game, but the Patriots shot themselves in the foot a few too many times. A handling is a dominant blowout, a couple plays go differently and the Patriots could have easily won that game.

Meanwhile, Indy must think they're playing New England as they choke in the red zone

"A couple plays go differently" is every fan's refrain when his team loses. They got beat, and turnovers are a huge part of the game. Deal with it. No one who beats New England wins the game, it seems. Weird vortex world.

Who forced Troy Brown to fumble it?

Denver won and I'm not taking anything away from that. I'm just saying with the way the Patriots played their poor play was more responsable than great play by Denver.

One out of five? It still doesn't change the fact that the Denver defense took care of those turnovers. it's not like once the ball was loose play was stopped and the ball was given to Denver. Besides, one of those turnovers was meaningless at the end of the game, the Lynch INT.

If Indy doesn't win today, I don't see them ever winning a super bowl. Their first chance to get there without the Pats being in the way and they're blowing it.

Denver won. New England lost. All I'm saying is, New England was capable of winning that game. They had lots of opportunities and didn't take advantage. They made atypical mistakes. Saying they got "dominated", "shut down" or "handled" (all phrases I've seen attributed to the game) is just wrong.

I still think New England is the better team. They outgained Denver 420 to 286. They also had 5 turnovers (ie. they beat themselves), one of which was irrelevant (Lynch), one a total fluke (the kickoff fumble), and one which was just a stupid mistake that had the biggest influence in deciding the game (red zone INT). "A couple plays go differently" may be every fan's refrain, but that's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, because it absolutely applies to that game. Brady doesn't make a stupid mistake in the red zone and it's in all likelyhood a tie game. Instead they got themselves down 14 in a matter of seconds and couldn't recover. Denver STILL might have won, I don't know, but I do know New England was in great shape before that INT. Call me a homer, whatever, I don't care, that's how the game played out.

Yeah, I'm rooting for the Steelers and Panthers today. I think they'll be better games then the ones we had yesterday.

If anything, seeing the supposedly "newly physical" Colts getting handled by the most traditionally physical team in the league, at home, after a bye in the playoffs, is very fun to watch.

I agree with the Pats fans on this board to a certain extent, but Denver's been a team all year that's gotten no respect and has been playing well against good enough opposition. They had the Chargers and Chiefs twice, Jacksonville, Washington, New England, Dallas, and the Giants. Those were all playoff or playoff-worthy teams, that 13-3 record didn't come by accident.

And while everyone and their mother was predicting a Pats "upset", it really was difficult to say that the Broncos won the game as much as it was the Patriots uncharacteristically making mistakes and losing it. I had the game on DVR and watched it last night, and in my opinion, Denver's defense won that game for them. New England's offense didn't play bad, except for the rushing game (oh deja vu, huh Pats fans?) they just really got handled by Denver's 2nd ranked rush defense in the league (although their pass defense was 29th in the league.. more deja vu for Broncos fans..) and, in the end, were given two free touchdowns... I'm referring to the clear non-pass interference call on Asante Samuel, which was absolute bullshit, and also the ball flying through the endzone on the Bailey interception, which would have given the Pats the ball again via a touchback in a one-score game.

I also think, in retrospect, I disagree with Belichick going for it on 4th and 1 on the Denver 20-30-something when Vinatieri could have made the field goal and struck first. People also seem to have forgotten that Mile High is a tough, tough place to play. Look at all the false starts the Patriots had yesterday. If Pittsburgh wins (looking likely at this point midway through the 3rd quarter-w00t), they're going to have a hell of a rough time at Denver next week.

All I gotta say is this: ANYONE but the fucking Bears, please.

They're probably going to no respect themselves right into the Super Bowl if this game holds up, which amazes me, because they look totally beatable. I respect them, I just don't see them as being all that.

Good for Pittsburgh to be playing at the top of their game in the postseason as opposed to in the regular season which is what they're used to doing.

This would be the first time ever a #6 seed has advanced past the divisional playoffs since they expanded to 12 teams back in 1990.

If Carolina wins today they'd be the first Wild Card team to reach the NFC Championship in 16 years ('89 Rams).

Why was everyone counting out the Steelers when it is the same damn team that had the #1 seed last year? The only difference I see is the defense is faster and Plaxico has been replaced. If those are the only reasons to doubt them, I really have no clue.

And Pats fans, forget it. Pats lost, let's move on. To me not getting three in a row isn't the end of the world. They just reload and return next year. Denver won, New England lost and it's not even hurting my week. Now I'm just cheering for Bettis cause I like the old guy.

Awesome TD by Clark.

Fuck it, I'm rooting for Indy to get back into this. I may not like em, but they're the underdog right now and this game needs some excitement

Yea i'm rooting for Indy to lose still, there's no way they win by more than 9 points so I lose this game in KKK's pickem anyways.

Bears will probably lose now as well ending my title defense :(
