Guest J0bber Report post Posted January 16, 2006 Hey guys, I consider myself a pretty big fan of heavy metal, but I'm getting kinda tired of the current scene with generic metalcore bands. I need something new to listen to. Seeing as I'm a fan of a lot of metal bands with industrial influences, such as Static-X, Ministry, Fear Factory, etc. I was wondering if you could direct me to some good industrial. No industrial metal bands please. EDIT: Also, I would prefer industrial bands with darker sounds.

Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Throbbing Gristle are the gods of industrial, while Foetus is the Christ. I actually recommend Foetus over TG, they just get to be gods because they came first.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Right now is when still seeing my buddy Wes would be great, since he's the biggest rivethead I know. Ummm...VNV Nation? Wumpscut? Not a big industrial fan, so hey.

Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 If you're looking for a more synthesized/computerized style of music, I think you might also benefit from higher caliber Ambient/Dark works out there. They share much of Metal's ability for emotional bonding and spiritual examination, following a parallel path in arriving there. First recommendations would be Dead Can Dance - Aion, Serpent's Egg Tangerine Dream - Phaedra, Rubycon You asked that there be no industrial metal recommendations given, but you have to listen to Godflesh Streetcleaner anyway. You might also get something of worth out of listening to the earlier works of Neurosis. Through Silver In Blood uses some metal styles as accents, and it's kinda like listening to pure gravity if you hear it at high volume. Not sure what exactly you're looking for when you drop those band names, then ask for no Industrial Metal.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 For fun you should check out Atari Teenage Riot. "Digital hardcore."
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Go check out Front Line Assembly, Einsturzende Neubauten, Meat Beat Manifesto. If you have KMFDM, I also recommmend MDFMK.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 For fun you should check out Atari Teenage Riot. "Digital hardcore." ATR kicks all kinds of ass. One of the women from ATR, Nic Endo, put out an amazing industrial/ambient album called Cold Metal Perfection. Also, check out any of the later releases from the Kovenant. swan 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Pig Revolting Cocks Godflesh Foetus KMFDM Young Gods Scorn Front 242 Meat Beat Manifesto My Life w/ The Thrill Kill Kult Nitzer Ebb Electric Hellfire Club Pigface Die Krupps Lard Sleep Chamber To a lesser extent: Lords of Acid Stabbing Westward Machines of Loving Grace Pitchshifter Gravity Kills Oh and Al Jourgensen has a bunch of side projects worth checking out, besides the RevCo you have: Acid Horse, Lard, and 1000 Homo DJ's among others. Not sure if that stuff is still in print as it was on Wax Trax, so maybe check the TVT Records catalog.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I enjoy Pitchshifter, but some of their early stuff is really bizarre to the point that it's unlistenable.

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 A lot of you are getting away from industrial, but, not being well-versed in the genre myself, I've little room to argue. Since Thumbtack mentioned it, I wanted to say—I think I've said this before—that the title track to Through Silver in Blood is one of the rare moments where music managed to scare the shit out of me. Keep in my I was playing it rather loudly and late at night, laying in bed with the (foolish) idea of going to sleep afterwards.

Steviekick 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I enjoy Pitchshifter, but some of their early stuff is really bizarre to the point that it's unlistenable. The death metal vocals I'm guessing? Yeah. I got into them in more of their industrock sound of the last few albums. My friend gave me their stuff from when they were on Earache and I couldn't believe they were the same project. Guest J0bber Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I decided to start off easy with some early Ministry and Rabies era Skinny Puppy, which was produced by Uncle Al himself. Early Ministry stuff kind of sounds like '80s pop, but a bit darker. I like it though, dark, yet danceable. Skinny Puppy was hard to get into at first, but now I find myself head banging to it, especially "Fascist Jock Itch". Who can't dig a track with that name? I'm probably going to rip some Front 242 stuff soon. There is also this cool industrial band called Klank that I want to check out. Godflesh looks cool too. I don't mind if the bands you name have some metal influences, but as long as they are more industrial than metal. I know its kind of hard naming industrial bands without metal influences since they are genres that blend well together. Thanks for all the recommendations guys! Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 18, 2006 My recommendations are almost identical to Milky's, though I like Throbbing Gristle better, for no other reason than that they can be so disgustingly creepy to the point of being troublesome. Special K 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2006 Only song I've ever listened to that has been a little bit scary is Sonic Youth's 'Shaking Hell'. Even with my well-known SY-boner, that song is just straight jugg-fuckled. Though The Wall movie scared the living shit out of me when I was 8. Fucking dad. Atari Teenage Riot is quite awesome. If I was to ever be executed, I would like them to play 'By any means necessary' or the Breeders' Cannonball. As an aside, I determined a couple years ago that 'Cannonball' is my favorite song ever, simply because I will never tire of it. Terrific song. Boom Doo-doom, doo-doo. Boom Doo-doom, doo-doo. Dooooo-doodoodoo--oom doodoodoo-oom. Good song.
