WON For 1/18 - WM in shambles --JBL erupts

Recommended Posts

I would order if they gave us Edge-RVD(where arguably the most consistently over wrestler since 2001 finally gets his big Title run) and Angle-Rey(with the former tag partners both taking home the gold of their respective brands), or Angle-Benoit(with Benoit winning the World Title for his friend Eddie). Cena-Hogan, the heat would be insane, and it would be the showdown of WWE's two current most recognized mainstream stars(with Rock and Austin gone). Unfortunately, this is what the card is looking like so far...

WWE Title:

Triple H vs Edge

World Title:

Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton

The Undertaker vs Mark Henry

Vince McMahon vs Shawn Michaels

And probably...

Hulk Hogan & John Cena vs Big Show & Kane

NO NO NO. If Rey or Benoit even sniff the main event for Mania which they won't, it can't be "for eddie". Benoit didn't need Eddie to win the title the first time, Benoit wrestles for Benoit.

It's cheesy as hell, it might work for Chavo winning the IC title at the most.

Everyone knows Benoit is Eddie's best friend, they would probably chant for Eddie during his match anyway, even if they didn't play it up. And if WWE wants to use Eddie to get over their angles, they might as well do it in the classiest way they can.

Rey and Chavo get the Eddie chants because they are more directly asscociated with Eddie, then Benoit was. There's no purpose in involving Eddie at all for any hypothetical Angle/Benoit showdown at WM.

Chavo is, but not Rey. In storyline terms and real life, Eddie and Benoit were best friends. Their friendship has also been played longer on television than Eddie and Rey's.

WWE fans have short term memories, The rey/eddie issue was more recent then benoit/eddie was. Also, Rey and Eddie also were asscociated as a group in WCW as well as both having the same heritage.

Also strictly for smark purposes, Rey/Eddie's matches has more praise then Eddie/Benoit matches do.

The Radicalz are more recent than the LWO, so I win... :D But seriously, the only way to know who Eddie was closer with is to ask him, and we can't, so... Agree to disagree?

The Filthy Animals actually.

Obviously we can't do that but my point is that Rey is promoted and pushed as someone who was directly asscociated with Eddie just like Chavo is.

Reality or not. Rey gets the Eddie chants because WWE encourages it.

Benoit doesn't get them because he isn't pushed as a Eddie Guerrero sympathy figure.

Which is why Benoit doesn't need the Eddie attachment if he gets the WM main event spot, but Chavo will need it because that's the one thing that's keeping him over.

Poor Chavo. He'll get the Eddie chants the rest of his career.

Poor Chavo has a job for life now. It's gotta suck for him knowing the only reason he had a job with WWE was his uncle, and that will never change.

Frankly, I think the only reason Chavo was brought in during the Invasion from WCW was due to Uncle Eddie.

HHH vs. Edge just makes no sense at all. What does Cena do in that instance? A Hogan match is a political scare since you know Hogan will want to go over there (and given Cena's reactions of late, I can't say I blame him). I almost agree with that line of reasoning with the Cena/Hogan tag team vs. Show/Kane. It lets Hogan work with 2/3 guys he wanted at WM (Cena, Show).

Regardless of whether RVD goes against Edge or is in a MITB type match or does whatever at WM, they can't fuck him up again. They just can't. When he gets back he'll be perhaps the only guy on the roster that will be getting a consistently big reaction. One could argue before that there were other guys who were considered "bigger stars" that were also mega over. But right now they have a "top" face that's getting trashed by fans, Michaels (who gets the "respected veteran" cheers, but isn't really near his peak anymore), Angle (who gets the You Suck chant and also cheered during his matches). Really the only other truly effective face is Rey, and it's mostly because he's so small that it's easy for him to get sympathy heat when someone beats him up.

Yeah, if Benoit DOES win the title again, he should do something subtle and say something like "this one's for you Eddie" at the end of the match to show respects to his friend. Don't have his entire build up/title reign "for Eddie". A simple nod of respect would be sufficent in this scenario.

To be honest, I'm more concerned with the roles that Carlito and Chris Masters will have at Wrestlemania than I am for Hulk Hogan or John Cena. It's obvious that WWE like Carlito and Masters and they look like they're going to be a big part of future WWE programming. Hogan isn't. Cena is already there.

Of the three, Hogan vs Cena is probably the preferable choice. Cena would need to go full-blown heel for it to happen, though, which WWE seem extremely reluctant to do. I'd rather Hogan never wrestled for WWE ever again, except possibly for a Hogan/Austin match with Austin going over.

I think Cena in full blown heel mood vs. super babyface Hogan would be entertaining as hell, and I think Cena could get back over as a tweener afterwards.

Hogan has creative control. If he wants to go over, he's going over. That's what caused part of the blow up with Shawn last summer. Hogan didn't want to lose, and there was nothing they could do about it.

Candice, Torrie and Victoria will be known as “Vince’s Devils” a play off of Charlie’s Angels.

So glad they cleared that up.

In other news, the Road Warriors' name was inspired by the sequel to "Mad Max".

How is any of that what the card is looking like after the 2 title matches? Thats all speculation. Taker is pissed at Johnny Ace and hasn't been seen for 3 weeks now, Hogan hasn't agreed to shit, and Shawn/Vince...well ok I'll grant you that one.

I'm still assuming Cena wins at Rumble and goes to WM vs HHH

When talk came up of possible WM matches, Meltzer, I believe, mentioned the first three matches on his radio show. He also said Cena-Triple H wasn't very likely to happen anymore.

And I said probably for a reason, because I was ONLY speculating on the last one.

So in other words, the only thing that isn't budging for WM is HHH in the ME slot. Shocking, really.

And Orton. They've tried to shoehorn his ass into every combination.

I read in this week's Observer that the new plan for WM's main event is Edge vs HHH. How will they make this work? I can't see Edge going back to a face again, and we know how awful HHH is at being one. Will it be a heel vs heel match? I just can't see how that matchup would be intriguing.

I forsee WWE doing something stupid and turning Edge face after getting rid of Lita and then having HHH win the Rumble (as a heel) and winning @ WM (as a heel). How any of that makes any sense booking wise is beyond me, but it's TOTALLY what I expected WWE to do.

I am totally outraged if Meltzer is right about the WWE wanting to put HHH and Orton into the main event. I think HHH needs a WM match that doesn't involve the belt since he's been in a title match every WM over the last seven years except WM 17. A JBL-HHH match would help solve that.

However, I don't know what their hard-on for Orton is. The only way they could've made this work is if he beat Taker @ Armageddon, but that didn't happen. Orton has zero credibility right now to challenge for the title but WWE just doesn't seem to care. I forsee this WM being a nice conclusion to the "screw the fans" mentality by WWE that we've had to endure since WM 21 concluded.

Bravo to Bret for saying them to screw off with the Bret-McMahon deal and the fact that creative thinks he's going to be there shows how out of touch with the product they really are. Funny to see that he sort of has WWE by the balls now after his DVD has been released.

It would take a little creativity, but they could go heel vs. heel pretty easy. It's a feud over respect with both of them being tweeners by constantly insulting the other one's credentials and career history. Edge can claim to be the best WWE Champ, insulting HHH indirectly. They have words, Edge tears him apart on his talk show. Edge dropping a little shoot comments about HHH's success comes from being part of the McMahon family would work with his 'Rated R' superstar gimmick.

Just base the feud on the two of them being two completely bitter, cocky, jealous pricks and it will work.

Given that Edge is, after a first-week misstep, showing he might be a good champ...and given that HHH MUST be in the main event at WM...

Has wrestling reached a point where the audience is "smart" enough for a heel vs. heel feud to work?

Anybody else get the impression that HHH thinks working a program with Cena is beneath him? (I'm just going on my gut instinct here.)

So does this mean that Vince is going to call them on the speaker phone about the latest crimes against sports entertainment? And who's going to play the part of Bosley?

I think HHH thinks (knows) he'd get cheered and doesn't want to play a face.

If we wind up with Angle / Orton and Edge / HHH, I really don't think I can in good conscious even buy the DVD for Mania 06, let alone order the PPV.

Its not a good card, but in the end, its Wrestlemania, and with the few exceptions (9, 13, 18) its never an AWFUL show, so I'm sure they have something up their sleaves to make it buyable.
