Guest SavageRulz Report post Posted February 2, 2006 WASHINGTON - President Bush will ask Congress for another $70 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, congressional sources said Thursday. The sources said that money, which would come on top of about $330 billion for the wars so far, would be for this fiscal year. The White House likely will seek another $50 billion in emergency money in the fiscal 2007 defense spending bill, the sources said. The $70 billion would fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the remainder of this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 31. The $50 billion for the 2007 budget is not expected to be enough for the entire year. Ouch! It's too bad that none of that will go to bringing our soldiers out of the poverty level. The entire region is so unstable right now. In the past I've said I don't agree with the war, but I will say with the instability right now I am glad we already have a presence. The news is frightening. Iran making statements about wiping Israel off the earth, Hamas now being "official", arab aid pouring in for them. Bush saying we would absolutely defend Israel. It does make me glad the war would be fought there and not here.

haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 Is it at all possible that one day, when Bush asks for more money for the war, he gets a big "NO!"? I have favored the Republicans for most of my life, but even I can see that this guy is a complete jackass. I'm just not buying the fact that after nearly 5 years since the "War on Terrorism" began, that Bin Laden has still not been captured. There's no way this guy can be that well-hidden. Special K 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 $400,000,000,000 to take over a shithole country with a sad military, and how much is it going to take to rebuild All that damage from Katrina? Something like 18 billion so far? Puts things into persepctive about how ludicrous this is.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 Look on the brightside...wealthy people still have their tax cuts, and thus will eventually (someday) trickle that down to the rest of the population.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2006 The military expenditures will continue, but they'll seriously hinder any other proactive military campaigns. What's happening in Iran would be pressured a hell of a lot more if we had the capability to back it up, but it isn't. So we're waiting to see what the UN does this time, and we'll probably give them a lot more time than we did with Iraq. The current engagements must be given the appropriate funding though, that's unquestionable. The government will have given close to $100 billion for the Katrina recovery should this be passed. This is something that doesn't require a full federal effort as the military would, so this is a very agreeable amount so far. What needs to be examined closer is what happens to that money once the bill is passed and it isn't in the news anymore. Hopefully there won't be another bundle of ludicrous items that raise eyebrows thanks to the beauracracy and inefficiencies again.
