JimmyHendricks 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2006 I wholeheartedy agree. The AWA feature is right up there with the ECW one as far as quality goes, probably even better. I was really surprised at how they were very frank with Hogan's departure (both sides). Verne and Greg are a little too much in their own world, but at the same time you'd expect that. Who is announcing in the first match on Disc 2? (Bockwinkel/Stevens vs. High Flyers, where Bobby becomes their manager)...annoying as hell. Sounds like a 50 yearold mark, reacting with an AHHWWWHOA!! to everything. I have Piper's DVD to get to as well, but the AWA one was a pleasant surprise, and is well worth a purchase, even if you never knew anything about it's history. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2006 I picked up awa on weds night (in between working to set up for black friday which took us until 1: 10 in the morning ) havent watched it yet but I have off the next two days so Ill have time to check it out and pipers too (wouldnt you know it pipers set went on sale for 14.99 at cc the week after it came out at 24.99 and I paid for it already, then again the new sd vs raw game is now going on sale for 20 bucks off as well after I had bought it two weeks ago at full price, man do I suck)
JimmyHendricks 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2006 Doesn't Circuit City have the same rule that Target and Best Buy does--that if something goes on sale within 2 weeks of you buying it, you get the difference back? I would do that, but I've already tossed my receipt from the Piper DVD, plus it's not worth the 20 minute drive + standing in line for 10 minutes to get 10 bucks back. Hell, i'd spend that much just in gas driving to and from there.

Hasbeen1 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2006 AWA, WWF and NWA all had something to do with the AWA folding. The WWF took Hogan, the Rockers, Hennig, Martel, Adonis (before he was made a joke) and even the likes of Boris Zukov-just because they could, but the 80s NWA took back the Road Warriors, plus took Paul (Heyman) E. Dangerously, Jimmy Garvin, Scott Hall, Zbysko (he later returned), Tom Zenk and some others. They also steamrolled Florida, Missouri, the UWF but that was called co-promotion work by the Apter mags, as Crockett was the hero fighting the evil McMahon empire, but that's another subject. I've turned it into a boring history lesson but there's no way a promotion running every afternoon on ESPN should have collapsed. Were the wrestlers offered more? Yes, but the point was more should have been done with them to begin with and maybe the money would have been there to keep at least some of them. They had talent that such as the guys that evolved into, or already went by, the Road Warriors, Mr Perfect, Vader, Razor Ramon, Rick Steiner, the others ones mentioned and many more, plus were closely associated with Memphis and its talent like Lawler, Rick Rude, Savage, Bundy, Sid Vicious, Bigelow, Scott Steiner, all within a four or five year period, but Bockwinkle (great in his day) and unprofessional, unpredicable Stan Hansen were champs during the years it went totally downhill. Even near the end they had recognizable names such as the Trooper (Patriot), Tully Blanchard and Nikita Koloff, but kept the belt on Zbysko and kept Slaughter a face when he was a huge heel a short time later in the WWF (the distateful Iraq angle). They had Ken Patera, a convicted felon and not a very nice person, and used him as a face because of his Olympic past. I picked up an old PWI magazine at random to help me remember some names and wouldn't you know who was the number contender, the secondary belt holder I'm guessing: Greg Gagne in 1989. That should sum it all up.

I just got The Cyber Sunday dvd this past week and the only extras are piper and flair celebrating with the divas, an interview with umaga and AAE, plus Piper/fLair vs Rated RKO from Raw the next night (the match where dx helped piper/flair win and embarrased ref eric bischoff)

Why isn''t Jake Roberts DVD on that list? yea great sales on wwe.com. they even have the 2005 ppv rewind set on sale with the history of the wwe championship for 89 bucks, or the rewind set only for 79 bucks (good deal thats all the 05 ppvs included, which usually cost 20 or so bucks each) and why does the wm set say 1-22? did they do a new one and add 22? (I remember the original box set came with the bonus of 21 disc) EDIT I THINK IT DOES alot of 2003/04 ppvs are now on sale for 12.98 as well (but s and h makes it mosre costly )

I only have a few so far, but was looking into getting the Dusty Rhodes and maybe another one. Here's my top 7, as that's all of the docs I've bought thus far; 1. The Rise & Fall of ECW 2. Bret Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be 3. Brian Pillman: Loose Cannon 4. The Spectacular Legacy of the AWA 5. Born To Controversy: The Roddy Piper Story 6. McMahon 7. Rey Mysterio

TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2006 I bought the Dusty Rhodes DVD just to have it without being a fan and by the end I was a Dusty Rhodes fan. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 Is the AWA DVD worth buying, and I can't find it anywhere other than like Best Buy for 25.00 and I don't think it's online anywhere either. I liked it. The extra matches aren't classics mostly, but you'll get some entertaining stuff. Curt Hennig's AWA title win is on it, as well as Lawler/Von Erich. Lawler cheats in that match better than any wrestler I have ever seen. For what it's worth, I bought my copy at Kmart for $17.99.

I've not seen the extras and matches, but they showed the main feature over here on Sky a few months ago, I can't say I was that much impressed. The extra tag match Rhodes/Murdoch vs Don Muraco/Billy Robinson who looks alot like Dan Severn from AWA was a fun match. If you weren't a fan before, this isn't going to make you a new fan considering Dusty Rhodes time in the WWF as the polka dot man was one big bad inside joke. But if you were a fan when WCW was on the Superstation TBS back in the day when they were doing shows at the Omni then this is for you.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 apparantly SurSeries and D2D both come out today (26th) CC has a deal where you can get both for 24 bucks. ou know Ill be all over that at work tonight, even though I spent over 100 bucks on assorted wrestling dvds at FYE the other day cuz there was a 3 for 30 bucks sale. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2006 so I did pick up SS and D2D the other day 2 for 24 bucks (well 26 with tax). D2D's extras are post match interviews with the Chamber particpants, plus the Show/Lashley rematch from the 12/5/06 episode of ECW on Scifi. SS's are a lame wwe.com mcmahon cartoon, a Lita postmatch interview, and the main event of 87's SS (hogans team vs andres team), although for some reason they have dubbed in Cole and JBL for commentary, though JBL is pretty hilarous as usual for this one.
