This week in the NBA

Recommended Posts

I heard that Ric Bucher said on ESPNews, that Odom was taken off the table by the Lakers, and that ain't happening. The deal on the table right now is a 3 way between Orlando, Denver and New York, with Francis going to Denver, Watson and Martin to New York, and Nene and a Knick player to Orlando. The issue is who Orlando wants, and who New York is willing to give up.

I told you Isiah would try to bring in a crippled Martin if he had the chance because he's a fucking moron.

Yeah I don't like this trade either.

I rather take on Ratliff and Miles than Martin. I really don't see the point in bringing a guy with knee problems, with 5 years left on his contract. Watson can be good for this team, but unless Martin is healthy, there's no reason to make this trade.

I'm thinking that the player to be involved would have to be Penny to make the salaries equal, right? I don't think Crawford or anyone else make enough.

I don't like this trade for the Knicks, but I don't hate it as much beccause I think it will help them a bit more in the short term than Francis would have. Now they have a legitimate PF who plays defense and rebounds to go next to Curry. Adding Watson finally gives them a PG and allows Marbury to fit more comfortable into the two position.

Big contracts for players who don't deserve them, blah, blah. I don't feel like getting into the argument again so I'll call it a wash for NY.

Actually, I think Crawford makes enough to make that deal work.

If we can get K-Mart and Watson and only give up Crawford I'd do that deal in a second. I'd rather give up Crawford here and save Penny's contract for another trade, because if we bring in Watson, along with Marbury, Robinson, Rose and Ariza we're too crowded on the perimeter to have minutes for everyone. Watson can ball, so ideally we'd run Watson-Marbury w/ Nate backing up and Rose swinging to SG at times.

By far, that would be the best move Isiah has made as GM of the Knicks. It'll actually make them better, but I don't like Watson or Martin's contracts.

If that's the case, we'd still be able to get Miles and Ratliff, which makes us a deep ass team.

Marbury/Watson

Rose/Robinson

Miles/Richardson

Martin/Frye/Lee

Curry/Ratliff

I don't buy that. Wade would have been the perfect combo backup to Rip and Chauncey, and Bosh would have brought a ton of energy off the bench in the frontcourt. Both guys were polished and near NBA ready coming out of college, scouts knew both guys were players. They could have fit onto that Pistons team seamlessly as 20 min a night backups, whereas Darko was a total project who wasn't even ready for that.

I do agree that Melo would have been a bad fit with Larry Brown as the coach.

No he wouldn't have. He would have gotten the token minutes behind Rip Hamilton who plays alot of minutes and commits no fouls. The guy is basically always on the court. And Brown would have play Lindsey Hunter over Wade. Crazy as it sounds, Hunter still would have been Billups backup. Wade would have gotten Mike James minutes. Chris Bosh wouldn't have cracked the Wallace, Wallace, Williamson, Campbell front line. Chris Bosh off the bench would put up similar numbers to what Davis Lee is doing in New York now. He would have been very physical...like Lee, been very good on the boards....like Lee, and would have gotten a bunch of DNP- Coach's decisions like Lee.

The pistons had their starters and they had their backups and no rookie was going to crack that. According to alot of the Piston Players, Darko is a very impressive practice player, but that still didn't make Brown put him in the game. Wade or Bosh killing it at practice wouldn't have made him budge either. Any other coach and you MIGHT have a point. But Brown notoriously doesn't play rookies. No matter who the Pistons would have taken, they would have been sitting on the bench until this year at the earliest.

Brown has something against Lee that's tough to explain (according to Stephen A. Smith). He's just bias against Lee for some reason.

I'll tell you what though, when Lee is on the court, Curry plays a lot better, and with more energy. So Larry better suck it up, and give him some minutes.

I heard through a friend, who has major contacts, that TMac will be a Laker by Thursday.

That makes no sense whatsoever. What the hell do the Lakers have a need for a shooting guard?

The Odom for Francis rumors were floated around by the Magic to draw interest, and the Lakers said they have no interest in trading Odom. That kills that one dead.

Don't believe everything you hear. It's called equivocation and smokescreens -- the Lakers had no interest in trading Odom for Francis.

There's a VERY good chance the following trade will go down (again, I'd like to reiterate that deals can break up at the last minute:

Odom and George to Orlando

Francis and Turkolgu to Houston

McGrady and Swift to Lakers

I'll try to update you guys on whether it's 100% by now or not before you hear it from the media outlets...
