Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 The two posts prior to this one right here are some of the worst I read in any hip hop thread in this board. Actually, Czech's made some equally stupid ones in the past. Pissed off DipSHIT fan? Face it, Cam is horrible. His rhymes don't even make sense no more. When he is with COC, he was a much better rapper. Atleast Jay-Z never put out bullshit like most of Cam's and Juelz recent shit.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Hip hop is a lyrical based artform with a musical backing. The lyrical content is the basis of it and the music provides the flow which the lyrics are put to. Rock music (for example) is more of a instrumental and vocal artform where the lyrics take a backseat. The beauty of Hip hop lies in its use of words and the ability to make them flow. If you take alot of the lyrics of rock music, they simply cannot hold a candle to what was said and the complexity of how it was said in hip hop. The thing that pisses me off is that people who are either two stubborn or to stupid to realize that different genres of music are attempting to get their artform across in different ways are the main ones screaming that the other is not music or that it is noise and screaming. If you are going to look for rock to do the same thing as hip-hop or vice versa you should simply shut the fuck up when it comes to musical discussion. Rock music not having the musical complexities of classical music is not a valid complaint about rock, because it is not supposed to and is not attempting to do that. Same for hip hop. If you don't get it, why waste everyones time by saying its stupid because you are too stupid to get it. I will always find someone saying something like: My pen and paper cause a chain reaction To get your brain relaxin, cause they be actin maniac in action A brainiac in fact, son, you mainly lack attraction You looking zany whack with just a fraction of my tracks spun to be an incredible artform espcially when supplied with the right beat and saying it at the right cadence. If you don't then fine. But fuck anyone that is going to say that it isn't music because they like something else.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 amazing rap music has as harrowing lyrics as any rock band. listen to mobb deep's the infamous. or even ready to die. this isn't a bullshit genre in the least. it gets a bad rep because of the oversaturation of "bitchaz niggaz ect" subject matter in mainstream music. while must of the beats are unoriginal, its faily ignorant to say all a rap dj needs to do is sample some kraftwerk or parliament. again, you've fallen into the stereotypical indie snob sector of critisising artists. (see: your "joke" about the strokes a month back). who samples parliament any more? that was only the g-funk shit that was popular 15 fucking years ago. but i digress, the orgin of these beats may not be original, but the way they are manipulated & assimilated along with various other samples, effects, ect takes some fucking skill. do you hate dance music, too? when you go to a club, do you stand their with your nose in the air waiting for them to play the fucking smiths? no wonder you're such a viciously obnoxious prick on the internet. you're repressed. even pitchform likes rap, dood. you've got a lot of nerve to be so critical of an artform that has spawned several tremendous lyrical talents; talents that could put to shame many of your indie rock darlings. but because of the beats, most of which aren't even made by them, you have to ignorantly discredit their entire musical output. but you play the trumpet, and your life has probably been programmed to hate any non-intrumental music anyway. so y'must hate the roots then, too. now we know why you hate rap. never come into a thread discussing it. you're quest for musical knowledge has clearly been a failure. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Also Hip Hop producers are musicans. To say what DJ Premier, RZA, Pete Rock, Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, Neptunes, Timbaland etc. do isn't music or art then your a complete idiot. Some even(In RZA's and Dre's case) use instruments, like keyboards, pianos, guitars, drums etc. Infact go listen to the Roots, where they have memebers of the group play the instruments. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 no wonder you're such a viciously obnoxious prick on the internet. What's your excuse? By the way, I've come around on electronic music. If you take alot of the lyrics of rock music, they simply cannot hold a candle to what was said and the complexity of how it was said in hip hop. not necessarily true Rock music not having the musical complexities of classical music is not a valid complaint about rock, because it is not supposed to and is not attempting to do that not necessarily true

Slayer 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Not like there was much point to the original topic anyway... someone condemns pedophiles, whoopty shit, pretty much anyone who isn't a pedophile condemns pedophiles. It's not like one of those issues where you can say "I'm not a pedophile, but I don't care if someone else pedophilizes..."

The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 I think you've got to make a distinction between the artform and the artists itself. The music itself is most assuredly an artform, as has been asserted more than a few times in the thread itself. And the medium provides the opportunity for very complex lyrical deliveries (which are a big draw for the genre on their own). The problem is that a great majority of the artists in rap squander that opportunity. Like Banky mentioned, there's so much watered-down sixth-grade shit out there that it completely dwarfs the entire field. Shit that caters to the lowest possible denominator, with juvenile fantasies giftwrapped in enough obscenity and profanity to make it rebellious and profitable. I don't know what Czech's comments were about Kanye West, but I'll tell you that he's one of the only mainstream rappers that appreciate because he'll actually go outside of the overplayed gangsta bullshit, with top-notch production no less. That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for, inventive tracks like the Grey Album where Danger Mouse hit some old Beatles tunes and put Jay-Z in a new and interesting context. Stuff like Prefuse 73, where there's a whirlwind of samples and cuts of all kinds of different music, from old jazz records to electronic glitches. And I'm undoubtedly missing others as well. The fact that rap is a musical artform does excuse or elevate "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" to some kind of grand artistic statement. The dominance of gangsta culture in mainstream hip-hop doesn't mean that the entire genre is garbage, though.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 I liked when Banky called me a pretentious indie rock dork. I'm first and foremost a Frank Zappa/Pink Floyd fan, ferchrissakes. Didn't he do the whole "oh my god. if you cant get why broken social scene will go down in history i will never read another music post you make" thing to me in January or something? If that's not pretentious indie, what is?
