humanoid92 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 I'm sure most of you have seen this before. I'm not sure where it started or who came up with it, but I can remember seeing it online as far back as around Wrestlemania 2000. I haven't tried it in a few years so I figured I'm due. The game is as follows: Using WM 1-21, you select one match from each year's card. The goal is to make a Wrestlemania supercard of sorts, with as many classic and memorable matches as possible while trying to keep the crap to a minimum. The rules make this challenging because A) You're not allowed to use anybody more than once and B) You're not allowed to use the same Title more than once. For example, if you use Savage/Steamboat from Wrestlemania III, you can't use HBK/Razor from Wrestlemania X since they're both for the Intercontinental Title. If you use, Bret/Owen from WM X, Bret/Austin from WM 13 is out of the question since you've already used Bret. This makes for quite a difficult task. Some guys like Savage, Bret, HBK, Angle, etc. have a ton of great matches to pick from. And some have been in so many like Hogan and Undertaker that it really gets tricky. This was hard enough to do back in 2000 but now that the last 5 or 6 years have featured pretty much all the same guys in high profile matches (Austin, Rock, HHH, Angle, Benoit, Jericho, Undertaker, Michaels, Hogan, etc.) it's even harder. Give it a shot and you'll see what I mean. So, using these rules, what's your ultimate WrestleMania card? I'll post mine in a bit. I: II: III: IV: V: VI: VII: VIII: IX: X: XI: XII: 13: XIV: XV: 2000: X-7: X-8: XIX: XX: 21:
humanoid92 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 Here's what I came up with, even though I don't really like it. I: Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd ($15,000 Bodyslam Challenge) II: Terry & Hoss Funk vs. Tito Santana & Junkyard Dog III: Tom Zenk & Rick Martel vs. Don Muraco & Bob Orton IV: Ricky Steamboat vs. Greg Valentine V: Mr. Perfect vs. Blue Blazer VI: Jake Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase VII: Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage (Career Match) VIII: Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter, Big Boss Man & Virgil vs. Nasty Boys, Repo Man & Mountie IX: Steiner Brothers vs. Headshrinkers X: Intercontinental Title: Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels (Ladder Match) XI: Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow XII: Undertaker vs. Diesel 13: Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (Submission Match) XIV: Light Heavyweight Title: Taka Michinoku vs. Aguila XV: European Title: X-Pac vs. Shane McMahon 2000: Tag Team Titles: Edge & Christian vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz (Triangle Ladder Match) X-7: Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle X-8: The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan XIX: World Heavyweight Title: Triple H vs. Booker T XX: Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg 21: Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero I don't even really like this card. I should try again. My reasoning in the beginning was: One of the two classic IC Matches (3, 10) needs to make it and one of the two classic WM 10 matches needs to make it. Considering Wrestlemania III has a deep card, and going with the IC Title Ladder Match at 10 frees up Bret for 13, which has an otherwise weak card, I went that way. Only problem is it takes away any possibility of Shawn/Angle, Shawn/Jericho, or Shawn/HHH/Benoit. I haven't used a WWF/E Title Match for some reason. I wanted to do Savage/Flair, but then Savage/Warrior is out and I picked the latter so I could save the Title match. I wanted to use the Evolution/Rock N Sock tag match from XX, but then Rocky is out and that kills X-8. Using Undertaker at XII hurts too. The only other real alternative from that card that wouldn't kill off a bunch of guys (Bret, Shawn, Austin, Warrior, HHH, Owen, Bulldog, Jake, etc) is Piper vs. Goldust, which was barely even a match. I guess I could use that and go with Undertaker vs. Kane from XIV or Undertaker vs. Orton from 21... If I went with Taker/Orton, I could use Eddie/Angle at XX (I haven't used a WWE Title Match yet) and change X7... to... I guess Vince/Shane... except then I'd have to take Shane out of XV and use something pathetic like Holly/Snow/Gunn for the Hardcore Title or Mankind vs. Big Show. Yikes. See? Hard stuff. I guess it all depends on which major matches you decide to use and the rest falls into place from there.

Aero 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 I: Ricky Steamboat vs. Matt Borne II: The Funks vs. Santana & JYD III: Can-Am Connection vs. Bob Orton & Don Muraco IV: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant V: Brutus Beefcake vs. Ted DiBiase VI: Rick Rude vs. Jimmy Snuka VII: Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior VIII: IC Title: Roddy Piper vs. Bret Hart IX: Steiner Brothers vs. Headshrinkers X: Earthquake vs. Adam Bomb XI: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Lawrence Taylor XII: Yokozuna, Ahmed Johnson, & Jake Roberts vs. British Bulldog, Owen Hart, & Vader 13: New Blackjacks vs. Headbangers vs. Godwinns vs. Doug Furnas & Philip LaFon XIV: Goldust & Luna vs. Marc Mero & Sable XV: European Title Shane McMahon vs. X-Pac 2000: Tag Titles: Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Edge & Christian X-7: WWF TITLE: Steve Austin vs. The Rock X-8: Kurt Angle vs. Kane XIX: Women's Title Trish Stratus vs. Victoria vs. Jazz XX: World Title: HHH vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit 21: Undertaker vs. Randy Orton I've done this at least twice before, so I tried to stray from what I figure I would usually do in order to make something different. The matches that I'm disappointed to have missed are Bret vs. Austin from 13 (my favorite match ever), Bret vs. Owen, and Angle vs. Benoit among others. I feel bad that Angle had to settle for his worst match (with Kane). I missed Flair, Razor, Mr. Perfect, and Diesel. WM XII really screwed me up, as I had already used Warrior in VII, Austin couldn't be wasted with Savio, Taker was lined up with Orton for one of his better WM matches, and Goldust was stuck in WM XIV (which is a match I do like alot). I originally had the Chicago Street Fight for 13, but Ahmed needed to be available for the Six-Man Tag at XII. I reluctantly used the WWF Title (at X7) AND the World Heavyweight Title (at XX), but it had to be done. For XIX, it was either Hogan vs. McMahon or the Women's Title... so I picked the match I liked better. That was easily one of the better women's title matches in WWE. With that, I wanted Hogan at least somewhere, so I stuck him in the match with Andre from IV. Not the best WM card, but it's better than most likely recycling the same card I had last year. humanoid92 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 Good cards thus far. I appreciate the responses. I decided to try again and go with a different Savage match and a different Michaels match to see if I could get better results. Here we go: I: Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff II: Corporal Kirchner vs. Nikolai Volkoff (Flag Match) ......ouch III: IC Title: Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat IV: British Bulldogs & Koko B. Ware vs. The Islanders & Bobby Heenan V: Strike Force vs. Brainbusters VI: Brutus Beefcake vs. Mr. Perfect VII: Virgil vs. Ted DiBiase VIII: Tatanka vs. Rick Martel IX: Steiner Brothers vs. Headshrinkers X: Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart XI: Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow XII: Ultimate Warrior vs. Triple H 13: Legion of Doom & Ahmed Johnson vs. Faarooq, Crush & Savio Vega XIV: Undertaker vs. Kane XV: WWF Title: The Rock vs. Steve Austin 2000: Tag Team Titles: Edge & Christian vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz (Triangle Ladder Match) X-7: Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle X-8: Women's Title: Trish vs. Jazz vs. Lita XIX: Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho XX: Rock, Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair, Batista & Randy Orton 21: Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero Some key decisions this time: Rock and Flair in the same match eliminates both Undertaker/Flair and Rock/Hogan from X-8, which leaves the women's match as the only choice (I'm not about to waste Austin on Hall and Angle on Kane). I'd have much rather had Austin/Rock from X-7 instead of XV but Angle/Benoit smokes anything on the other show. I could have gone Piper/Goldust or Undertaker/Diesel for 12 and switched 14 to Taka/Aguila and 1 to Andre/Studd, but whatever. I'm still not satisfied with this card; this exercise was much easier 6 or 7 years ago before Shawn's latest matches, Angle's contributions, the X-7 supercard and Rock/Hogan. Back then, Savage/Flair, Shawn/Razor and Bret/Austin all fell into place nicely (Savage/Flair eliminates Savage/Steamboat, which means Shawn/Razor gets the IC match, which takes out all of Bret's other WM classics [8, 10, 12] and leaves the Austin match) but now there are too many other factors. Hmmm... maybe I should try again sticking with those three matches as my starting points. Bah. There's a million different ways to go.

Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted February 18, 2006 Leilani Kai – Wendi Richter Womans Title Wrestlemania I as a whole pretty much sucked, and my goal is to have as many title defended as possible. So, A + B makes this match. Steamboat – Hurcules Ricky Steamboat is a must include in this illustrious card, since Savage has 3 unbelivable match, Savage/Steamboat lost a coin toss. Plus Flair is tougher to find a match on shit card like Wrestlemania II to throw into, and I hate Warrior. Ill expect a thank you in the mail for your inclusion in this elite card Hurc. Rougeaus – Hammer/Brutus A very underrated Tag match with three pretty damn good workers in their heyday. O yah, Leslie was here too. Islanders/Heenan – Bulldogs/Koko 6 Man Tag Another garbage Wrestlemania gives me a chance to add ole Dynamite to the show. Match was fine, but nothing else sticks out. Busters – Santana/Martel The Brian BUSTAS need to make a best of show, I dont care if they were only in one Wrestlemania, thats how good they were! Match was good and I aint bumping anything else that sticks out in a show that blends into the background. Jake – Million Dollar Man One of Jake's best match and an unbeliveable promo before hand too boot! Perfect – Bossman IC Title Of all the great IC Title match in Wrestlemania, this may not spring to your mind, but these were two great workers who put on a very underrated match. Easily the second best match at Wrestlemania VII. Savage – Flair WWF Heavyweight Title And after skipping TWO Savage classics, the third one gets used in one of my personal favorites of all time. Easily one of Fliars WWF greats, and a match I love watching over and over agian. But, I used Both the main two titles before WM IX, so its gonna get tough from here on out. Headshrinkers – Stieners Crappy WM, decent match, no one good used. BOO YAH Owen – Bret Using Owen in this list was much more improtant than using Razor, since Bret and HBK have lots of classics. Obviously a great match, and I am glad I can use it. Bam Bam – Taylor An aweful show with no gem means I get to include the most famous match. Hey, it was that or using the Blues Brothers. Piper – Goldust Hollywood Backlot Brawl Another Wrestlemania where the undercard had very little, so a famous match get inserted instead. I will always pick a famous match that was meh compared to a rushed 5 minute midcard match, and I loved Goldust back then. Ahmed/LOD – Nation Chicago Street Fight A very underrated garbage brawl that has Ahmed Johnson and probably Crush's best match. It was fun enough and I think quite overlooked. Taka – Aguila Light Heavyweight Tilte Need that Lightweight Title! X-pac – Shane McMahon Europian Heavyweight Title Best match of the night AND Euro title. BOO YAH! E&C - Hardyz - Dudleyz Tag Titles I F'in LOATHE TLC 2, so I happily pick this over the Wrestlemania XVII rematch. My only regret is that I couldn't use Jericho, as he is the only guy I really wanted to include but couldn't on my card. Him and Eddie. Raven – Kane – Show Hardcore Title A real fun match. Everyone else in this Wrestlemania who is any good had better matches in other Wrestlemania's. Rock – Hogan Shit card, famous match. Thats a gimmie. Hardy – Rey Cruiserweight Title Here is where I had a big debate in my head. I really wanted to use Jericho/HBK here, but then no Benoit and the Three Way at Wrestlemania XX is better than Jericho/HBK. So, we go for another Title and a fun little match. Benoit – HBK – HHH World Heavyweight Title So happy I got to use both Heavyweight belts, and this match is a must need. Taker – Orton Wrestlemania Legend Undertakers best match. Gotta include Taker, and so very few of him Mania matches were any good. Day 1 Dark Match: Steamboat – Hurcules Opener: Hardy – Rey Cruiserweight Title 2nd: Islanders/Heenan – Bulldogs/Koko 3rd: X-pac – Shane McMahon Europian Heavyweight Title 4th: Busters – Strike Force 5th: Ahmed/LOD – Nation Chicago Street Fight 6th: Perfect – Bossman IC Title 7th: Bam Bam – Taylor 8th: Owen – Bret Main Event: Benoit – HBK – HHH World Heavyweight Title Dark Match: Headshrinkers – Stieners Opener: Taka – Aguila Light Heavyweight Tilte 2nd: Rougeaus – Hammer/Brutus 3rd: Raven – Kane – Show Hardcore Title 4th: Leilani Kai – Wendi Richter Womans Title 5th: Jake Roberts – Million Dollar Man 6th: Piper – Goldust Hollywood Backlot Brawl 7th: Rock – Hogan 8th: E&C - Hardyz - Dudleyz Tag Titles 9th: Taker – Orton[/size] Main Event: Savage – Flair WWF Heavyweight Title
humanoid92 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 I like this one a lot, Rrrsh. I'm also a mark for Savage/Flair, and I like that you tried to get guys like Steamboat, Dynamite and the Busters on the card. I like the Piper/Goldust and Rock/Hogan strategy as well. And the 2000 match that I like to call TLC 0. No-brainer. I had the same problem with Jericho. You can't use 2000 for him because it blows two titles and two other awesome workers. Can't use X-7 because it's for the IC Title and that's a stacked card. Can't use him at X-8 because Rock/Hogan is a no-brainer and it's for the Title, can't use him at XX because Christian is in those ladder matches, and can't use him at 21 because Money in the Bank uses up too many other quality guys. So the only option is vs. Michaels (a match I love) but Shawn has way too many other options to go with. I like what you did with Day 1 and Day 2, and what CM Funk did with his card. I'm going to have to go back, make my final decisions and make something like that. One thing I just noticed though: You used Matt Hardy against Mysterio and in the Triangle Ladder Match, which is a no-no.

I was so worried about including all the titles and gettig Rey in there, I totally blanked out Hardy. I have no friggin clue what I will do about WM 19 now. I think a Day 1 and 2 thing works, cuz it is 21 matches. Might as well have some fun and try to book it like a real show that WWE would do.
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted February 19, 2006 My chnages have to do with WM I and XIX, as I double Matt Hardy. My WM XIX match is now the Womans three way. And since I used teh womans title back then, I will incude Andre in my "historical wrestlers to throw in there during shit cards" Hardy-Rey out, Trish-Jazz-Lita in Kai-Richetr out, Studd-Andre in. Xpac-Shane now opens, with Bam Bam-Taylor going 3rd and Studd-Andre in at 7th for Day 1. Straight change for Day 2, womans match for womans match in the 4th slot. Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Darthtiki, this is no slight on you, but I am such a big WM X mark for the "big 2 matches". And same with WM VIII. So right when I saw the matches you pciked for X and VIII, I said very loud to know one in the room "Man this card is shit" I thought it was funny.
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted February 20, 2006 I am now doubting me leaving off Eddie, Angle and Jericho. I love my card, but maybe I can make it better. Whats better: 3 way Hardcore at WM XVII, womans match at XIX and Benoit/HHH/HBK at XX or Benoit/ANgle at XVII, HBK/Y2J at XIX and womans at XX?
humanoid92 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 I am now doubting me leaving off Eddie, Angle and Jericho. I love my card, but maybe I can make it better. Whats better: 3 way Hardcore at WM XVII, womans match at XIX and Benoit/HHH/HBK at XX or Benoit/ANgle at XVII, HBK/Y2J at XIX and womans at XX? Now that I've thought about my card again, it's apparent we have very similar tastes. I'm also a huge mark for the two big matches at VIII and X. The problem you mentioned above is the same thing I have been debating. Do I go HBK/Y2J and Benoit/Angle and something lesser at XX (somehow it always comes down to Cena/Show or Brock/Goldberg)? Or do I go with Benoit/HHH/HBK, Brock/Angle, and something lesser at X-7 (the Hardcore Match or even the Gimmick Battle Royale)? I'm torn. I don't think I'll be able to justify leaving off one of the "big" matches from X-7 in favor of something else though. Going the Benoit/Angle and HBK/Y2J route makes for two awesome matches, four awesome workers, and takes up two cards. With Benoit/HHH/HBK, you're sacrificing at least two other cards for a triple threat match. This match would be much easier to include if it was just Benoit/HHH like it should have been. I can't justify blowing HBK on a triple threat. So to answer your question, I'd go with the second choice but maybe consider a different match at XX. I'm a little upset that I can't use Jericho/Christian, but one of the TLCs has to go in, plain and simple. I also use the fact that I'm using one of the TLCs to justify not putting the Shawn/Razor ladder match on there (two ladder matches is overkill), which opens up Shawn... and leads to Bret/Owen instead of Bret/Austin. Which at first seemed wrong because 13 sucks compared to 10, but anything I'd put on from 10 outside of the big two is no worse than anything I'd put on from 13 outside of the big one. So no big deal I guess. It's funny how things trickle down when trying to do this. If you go Bret/Austin, Owen is available for V against Perfect. But if you go Bret/Owen, you have to do Strike Force/Busters at V, which takes Tito out of the tag match at 2 and leaves... your choice of garbage. Possibly Piper/T, which then eliminates Piper from XII, which forces you to go Taker/Diesel (no Taker/Kane, Taker/Flair, or Taker/Orton that way) or even Warrior/HHH (no HHH). Tricky. Basically, Taker, Savage, Shawn, and Bret are the key guys. With Rock, Hogan, Austin, Flair, HHH, Angle and Benoit screwing things up as much as they can. One card I did ended up having no WWF Title Match AND no Austin, Flair, etc. Weird. I also found that when I use Savage/Steamboat and Bret/Owen, I end up with Razor/Jarrett as the IC Title Match on that one, a match I actually do like, but one that probably wastes the IC Title. I tried the approach of the one guy who wanted to include as many titles as possible, but I felt it sacrificed too much quality. Plus, in order to use the Light Heavyweight Title (at XIV) you must then eliminate Taka, which gets rid of the Hardcore Battle Royale from 2000, which is the only Hardcore match that I like. Plus it pretty much automatically means HHH/Benoit/HBK must be used, and like I said, I don't like using Shawn in a triple threat. So, anyway- question: For XX, It looks like I'm going to have to go either Show/Cena for the US Title or Brock/Goldberg. Which do I use? I don't particularly remember either except for the crowd shitting on the latter. Do I go with the two big names that will probably never be at a WM again, or the US Title match? I'll have to post my final card sometime soon.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 No one actually put in Andre vs. Hogan? In my mind that's the ultimate WWF Championship bout, and nothing will ever surpass it in that regard, in terms of drawing power, heat, hype and sheer drama.
