The music of Super Street Fighter II

Recommended Posts

is fantastic. Let's discuss it here.

Okay, I should be the one to know this, but I don't, so I'm asking you guys. Sagat's music. Is this representative of any music of Thailand? Or was this just a neat little tune they wrote. Just about every theme of the 16, 'cept maybe Ken, Ryu, and Bison, is pretty good at emulating the folk music of that country, from what I can tell. I just really like Sagat's music. I don't know if it's considered gamelan, because gamelan is Javanese, but it does have that mallet-ensemble feel. I just want to find more music in this vein.

Is it pretty much the same music?

I haven't played any of the eleventy billion variations since the original SF2.

Sagat's music is the best, but I do agree that Ryu and Ken's music is great and fits in with the characters, which it should, as opposed to fitting in with the theme of their countries. They are the main characters so it makes sense...everyone else, being secondary characters are fine with their music...Vega's music is great, however (I'm talking american version masked matador Vega, here, nerds).

Ryu and Ken's themes are pretty much iconic to me. Guile less so.

I've never really heard better fighting game music then those two. They just feel bitchin.

C'mon, Guile's is pretty Top Gun, if you ask me. Ken's I liked, Ryu's less so. What's his stage, anyway? Is it like, a boat that crashed or something? I don't get Japan.

Vega, Cammy, Fei Long. Those are some winners as well.

I liked Vega's original SF2 (and I think CE was the same) versus his Super theme.

Really dig Cammy's (as well as a few Overclocked Remixes of them).

Ken's is excellent.

Honda's was always pretty boring.

I thought the older versions of Bison's theme, while much rougher, sounded more cool and menacing. The cape intro and CE's night time background were cool, too.

TIGER TIGER TIGER TIGER TIGER TIGER KNEE

Sagat's an awesome character, but man was he a pain in the ass to play against.

I hated having to fight a computer Sagat. It was TIGER after TIGER after TIGER, then you would finally reach him, and he would uppercut you to hell. More TIGER, TIGER, TIGER, uppercut. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Now I could usually beat Ken and Ryu when they used that pattern, but Sagat has a fucking wicked reach, so it makes it all worse.

Ken and Vega have great stage themes. VGMix has a great version of Vega's theme with a bit of a western motif that I love.

I hate playing this game online...

With that said, I have several remixes of the background music. I like Ken's music because it's jazzy. I have M. Bison's theme and it reminds me of the Undertaker's theme with bells.

It's called Nesshou!! Street Fighter II ~ Instrumental Version.

Best versions of the music I've heard is from Super Turbo for PC. I don't think it's on any other version. It's completely redone, very high quality. I like the opening, Ryu, Cammy and Vega themes.

But my favorite SF music is 3rd Strike. It's really grown on me. Especially the second mixes, after the first round when the music picks up. Ken/Alex, Ryu, Remy, Dudley, Yun/Yang, Q and Hugo's songs are all great.

Namco does the best fighting game music. Soulcalibur series has such an epic, atmospheric soundtrack. Tekken 5's is also great. Love the Cathedral and Moonlit Wilderness music. From what I've heard Dark Resurrection sounds REALLY good. The Cathedral remix is extremely cool.

Sagat's an awesome character, but man was he a pain in the ass to play against.

It generally takes me at least three or four tries to beat Sagat, and that's if I'm in my element with a speedy corner-and-shoulder-button guy like Vega or Fei Long. I bet I couldn't even do it at all with Zangief or T. Hawk

Sagat was fun if only for the sheer cheese factor of keeping people the fuck away. Ryu & Ken didn't have shit on Sagat in that department.

I've always been fond of Dee Jay for some reason, even though he completely doesn't fit into anything in the series. He's just always....there.

My friends and I have been addicted to playing the original SF II on SNES again, I finally went perfect with Chun Li and E. Honda on level 7 no timer which is a big accomplishment for me at least.

Man, I've been trying to use other characters, and I've realized that I'm actually not very good at this game at all. When I can't just suplex-jump-slash with Vega, or whatever the hell I do where I corner the guy and only use the L button, I'm fucking awful. I'm a fraud. a sham.

anyone ever do the ol easy wins on Chun Li and Zangief? With Ken, knock Chun Li down and then keep doing the spinning roundhouse the instant she gets back up, hits her about 5 or 6 times and knocks her back down again. I don't think that works with anyone else. As Ryu and Ken (and you may be able to do this with others) on Zangief, simply keep jumping up and pressing Roundhouse and he'll keep walking into it.

I'm glad I'm not the only other person in the world to use Vega. I love playing as him, and not just doing the suplex-jump-slash..... I throw in a slide here and there. :)

Alph-LYRA did an Image album for SF II, and it is the best music for the ame I have ever heard, aside from the actual in-game music. When I hear it I thank my ex-roommate every day for letting me rip that CD, because I haven't been able to find that album yet, through any means.

I developed into a Sagat master by the time Super Turbo came out. The Tiger Knee is a wonderful weapon against fireballs if done correctly. Beating Sagat wasn't hard if you had decent anticipation and didn;t get greedy.

Zangief would EAT uppercuts if you did it right. Ken, Ryu, Sagat, all three could crush him with jab uppercuts if you had the timing down.

It's funny how you can hold the buttons down to make everything in the background go faster. So like on Fei Long's stage the flamingos are FLIPPING OUT flapping back and forth like crazy. Or that guy in Zangief's stage taking like 20 drinks a second.

The sign of a true man is someone who can impersonate Sagat.

Interesting fact, Chun Li is sampled on the Madvillainy album. I marked out. hard.
