Longdogger_Pete 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Sarah Leavenworth sits idly by in the Seattle airport's lounge, killing time before the plane bound for the SWF's next show in Minnesota. As she relaxes, listening to the soft sounds of the airport's generic elevator music, she flinches as a hand rests on her shoulder. "Hi," says Peter MacDougal, towering over her. "Hi," replies Sarah. "You know, there was once a time when I would have laid you out on the floor for something so simple as placing your hand on me." Pete nods. "As a matter of fact, you may have done just that a time or two. Buy you a drink?" She holds up the remains of her beverage glass. "Nah, I'm good. Feel free to sit down, though." "Thanks." He takes a seat next to her, sliding the chair closer to the counter. "So. I never thought I'd see you back on the active roster." The former manager of X Force 9 smiles enigmatically. "Well... the roads of fate take us to some pretty strange places, I guess... and what about you?" She jabs Pete gently in the ribs. "Demanding a match on Storm?" "I know..." says Pete quietly. "And with your son, of all people." "I know." Sarah shakes her head. "What ever possessed you to do that?" "You know something?" says Pete. "For a moment there, when I was standing in the center of the ring again, and listening to the thousands of people chanting my name... well, it felt like old times. I miss that feeling... and you know, I wouldn't mind hearing it again." "You're talking about a comeback," says Sarah. "Aren't you." It was not a question. Pete nods slowly. "I think I'd like to give it one more go." Sarah shakes her head. "That's crazy. Pete, you're forty years old. What makes you think you have the stamina to compete again on a regular basis?" Pete raises an inquisitive eyebrow. "I may be forty, Sarah, but I'm not dead. It's not like I don't stay in shape any more. I still do my workouts in the locker room before every show, just as I always have. I don't know, I think I may be able to do it. Who knows? Maybe sometime down the road we could even put XF9 back together again." "That's not possible, Pete, and you know it. Everyone from XF9 is gone. Brassy, TNT, Erek... hell, even Ash is gone. They've all moved on." "You're here," prods Pete. Sarah holds her hand up to stave off that line of thinking. "I've moved on too. I'm teaming with Chris Fury now." Pete frowns. "I know. I can't say I'm thrilled with that particular pairing." "Can't say I am either, but things are the way they are for a reason." Sarah appears thoughtful. "You know what I think? I think you're trying to wax nostalgic for your glory days because you're trying to take your mind off the bigger picture." "What bigger picture is that?" "Coyote," says Sarah matter-of-factly. "Your son is here in the SWF. Someone you didn't even know existed, and now that he does, he wants nothing to do with you. I think that hurts you more than you care to admit, and you're using the idea of a comeback as a cover." "Perhaps you're right." Pete ponders Sarah's words, considering the weight of what she said to him about Kevin Coyote. But he keeps coming back to the mental picture of standing in the ring on Storm, and the excited chants of "L - D - P!" He feels the knot of time tightening within him, and he hears a voice inside his head say "Too soon, too soon..." Pete suddenly stands up, backing away from the counter. "Then again, perhaps you're wrong. But I intend to find out."

Toxxic 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Hmm, an active LDP return? Not just a one night only? Well, it'd get him off the commentary team, which as far as I'm concerned is a good thing as it might mean we get CYCLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE COMET back! Nice promo.
