starvenger Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I can't tell if your friend is jealous of Stevie or is an arrogant opera diva wannabe. Probably a bit of both. I say this because you can't tell how good an OPERA singer someone is because they fuck up singing a 2-minute POP song in a singing competition viewed by millions. Oh yes you can. I think this is where I'm supposed to say "Oh no you can't" but I can't really as you'll see below If you study with any kind of good vocal teacher, you obtain a certain control of your voice no matter what style you sing. Anyone who knows anything KNOWS where the sound is being produced from listening and watching someone, and how good control there is over all the aspects of the voice, from breath control to where the sound actually is produced and projected. No real argument about where the sound was coming from. Jane Idolwatcher might not know that the sound is supposed to come from the diaphragm, but they'll know when the sound isn't coming from where it's supposed to be coming from. This girl is either no talent, or has a really bad vocal coach or an instructor only concerned with producing that stupid nasally, breathy sound so popular today. She's been wasting her money big time. Here's the thing - if you're nervous and things aren't going right, your training isn't always going to take over for you. The best coaching in the world is not going to help you if mentally you've thrown in the towel. It's a sports cliche, but it can also apply to competition - that focus, that drive has to be there if you're going to succeed. And it wasn't there for Stevie. To tie this all back to my previous post, I need to amend it a bit. I should really say "I say this because you can't tell how good an OPERA singer Stevie was because she fucked up a 2-minute POP song in a singing competition viewed by millions." because maybe your friend can tell how good a classical singer one might be - I don't know her, and her blog post was essentially done to bury Stevie (not that she needed help). But as far as we know Stevie has just this one chokejob and you can't form that "she can't sing" opinion based solely on that. But of course, you CAN form the "she doesn't deserve my vote, especially since that cute blonde girl with the jailbird dad did poorly" opinion and that's what people did (I guess, since Kellie was pretty bad as well).
Black Lushus Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 okay, so far: Taylor was better than given credit for, but hey, it was sorta bland, I can agree with that. Elliot, solid performance, he's top 5 for sure Ace...not good at all...sorry Ace
Black Lushus Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 wow...well Gedeon was better than last week, yes, but sheesh, he wasn't THAT good.
starvenger Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 man, Ace sucked You had to know that was coming when he couldn't remember the name of the song. Did you hear the Damage Control the judges did for him?
starvenger Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 What was the name of the song that Elliott sang?
chaosrage Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Just end the fucking show and announce Chris as the winner
Black Lushus Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 tough call on who's out for the guys...other than Chris, no one really stood out...David, the crooner is probably one of the most likely gone.
Guest Princess Leena Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 So, Chris is the good one. Thanks.
starvenger Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I'd think so, but he was actually decent tonight. I think he realizes that he'll be out either this week or next, so he decided to live out a dream and sing Sinatra. That being said. I'm picking Bucky and Sway to go. Bucky ruined Garth Brooks, and Sway sang Stevie Wonder, which almost never goes well for Idol hopefuls.
Guest Princess Leena Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Ack, so is Chris the good one that people on the internet respect for liking his voice... but, regular dumb shmucks, like the ones I have to babble with at work, wouldn't like?
starvenger Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Probably. "New Rock" isn't for everyone...
Black Lushus Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Ack, so is Chris the good one that people on the internet respect for liking his voice... but, regular dumb shmucks, like the ones I have to babble with at work, wouldn't like? how about you just try watching the show Leena...or ignore your co-workers?
Xavier Cromartie Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I liked how Brenna was so aggressive when she caught Ace's cap. I think that Chris, Ace, Taylor, David, and Will are more 'over' than the other five, and so I don't expect any of them to be eliminated this week. I agree that it might be Bucky and Sway.
Guest Princess Leena Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Ack, so is Chris the good one that people on the internet respect for liking his voice... but, regular dumb shmucks, like the ones I have to babble with at work, wouldn't like? how about you just try watching the show Leena...or ignore your co-workers? I can't. I was changing through the channels last night, and there's some ugly bitch hacking up "Wing Beneath my Wings". Like, I can't even listen to that song sung properly without wanting to hurt people. My plan next week is to skip every song, and come back in time for Simon to say his awesome comments.
starvenger Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 At least watch the recap at the end. And be glad that noone's cranked out the Diane Warren yet...
C Dubya 04 Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I think that everyone likes Chris. He's a good singer, does songs that are at the least recognizable to everyone. I think that Sway and the Crooner Guy are gone tonight.
Jericholic82 Posted March 3, 2006 Author Report Posted March 3, 2006 the guys totally outclassed the girls this week. It owuld seme they purposely picked weake rgirls so a guy could win for only the 2nd time. chris and elliot were best again last night. I'm picking the cuts to be ...uhhhhhh, I don't even know I will just say wannabe sinatra and the brady lookalike for the guys, and for the girls, I am not sure.
naiwf Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Bottom 3 chicks = Brenna, Heather & Kinnik, which is exactly as it should be. Brenna got the least number of votes, hallelujah!
Black Lushus Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 yeah, she really is terrible...gorgeous, as I said...but she just plain sucks...listen to her for cryin out loud!
starvenger Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 oh no, we have to hear her again. The sad part about this is that Carrie was only marginally better singing her "hit" single...
Jericholic82 Posted March 3, 2006 Author Report Posted March 3, 2006 my condolences to ortonsault. I should be upset being as brenna is form my area, but she is not a good singer (how personalityprobably got her to this point). even if she was a good singer, she wouldn't last since she has the "noo yawk attitude" and that doesn't fly outside of these parts but wait if those were the bottom three who else is being cut? are they even cutting two each this week?
Jericholic82 Posted March 3, 2006 Author Report Posted March 3, 2006 ok, its.......... (I predict Heather since she butchered hero) but its........... it is heather
naiwf Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Cox just got the boot, so America's doing well so far with the women at least.
Jericholic82 Posted March 3, 2006 Author Report Posted March 3, 2006 Too bad I think she probbaly is abtter singer, but she made a fatal mistake of song choice. man I cant wait untill the theme weeks where the singers get help from coaches.
