Kharitanov's stock has fallen greatly in my opinion. As has Rizzo's (obviously). When you lose to Fedor's punching bag, it's probably time to call it quits.

I'm really shocked with Kharitanov and Shogun. I thought they would both run through their opponents. Either Coleman's excuses weren't excuses after all, since I didn't even expect him to take Shogun down. Shogun is still a top player in the LHW division, but I think this shows the difference that power/weight can bring. He probably shouldn't be ballooning that high, while the power of a heavyweight is something he's not used to, even one as non juiced as the hammer.

Rizzo looking as bad as he did makes Kharitanov look worse in my opinion, since one of his big accomplishments was making Rizzo look awful last year. Maybe Overreem just belongs in the heavyweight division who knows. LeiTong is right about the heavyweight divisions though, Goddamn.

To Coleman's credit, he did escape a triangle and a heel hook--->leg lock.

So I guess the Openweight GP looks like this so far:

Cro Cop

Yoshida

Hunt

Barnett

Nogueira

Overeem

Kohsaka

Werdum

Rampage

Zentsov

That would leave six spots. It would be cool if Silva joins the tourney on behalf of Chute Boxe, since Shogun will probably be out for a couple months. A match versus Coleman in the first round would make sense.

Not sure if you can count Kharitonov out after one loss, but a dislocated shoulder is a fairly serious injury. I would venture to guess they would like another native in, maybe Fujita since he has recently been announced as free from Inoki.

There's assorted rumors going around about what happened after the fight. Apparently Wanderlei threw a head kick at Coleman but missed which lead to Baroni shooting a double on Wandy and taking him down and laying on him until things got broken up.

Either way, I think Coleman vs Silva or even Baroni vs Silva is set for the Openweight GP.

Baroni is big for 185, but I doubt he would be able to do much at HW, which is essentially what this tourney is. My mind's running blank on other contestants. Obviously no Schilt this year, really can't see Ogawa or Giant Silva in it either. Hopefully no Saku. I would guess they might throw Igor and Naka on there. Hopefully some surprises are in order. Good ones that is.

I'm not disappointed that Shogun lost here because it was off of a freak injury. He looked really good on the ground going for submission after submission and was winning the fight up until that point, so I have little doubt that he'd lose a rematch. Plus, I woke up today thinking "Shogun Lost", which he did, but he really wasn't "beaten". What I am disappointed in is that the fight didn't go very long and this injury will probably take Shogun out of the Grand Prix.

In other news, that Roman knockout is fucking AWESOME.

Tamura taking the Nog fight, but not the Saku fight is completely baffling.

Nogueria owned him far worse then Saku EVER could. Tamura's myth is completely destroyed after that.

Edit: And having seen it...Rizzo's done. Two back to back strike stoppages for someone whose main claim to fame is his striking. Roman fucking KILLED HIM

Edit Edit: Having seen the Coleman/Shogun fight...the best part was Shoguns face as he laid there. He was almost like "...what the FUCK are you all doing?!? I'M HURT!". It really looked like Coleman didn't know what the fuck was going on, and then Chute Box started yelling, Coleman flipped into roid rage and it all went down hill. Sherdoggers got on Coleman for celebrating...but fuck it, he was what? 10,000 to one odds of winning that fight? I'd try to do backflips, regardless of how I won.

I think Rizzo has one fight left on his contract. He should probably get another hard opponent, reason being if he gets a can, he proves nothing with a win and won't get resigned. At least when he fights a higher level fighter he has the chance to possibly get an extension with a victory.

I think they put Tamura with Nogueira as punishment for refusing the Saku fight so many times. I think after his refusal to fight Saku on NYE, DSE actually referred to Tamura as being scared.

Pretty on point, especially considering the events of last night:

"Fedor's two normal modes of operation are totally unconcerned, and amusingly totally unconcerned."

In regards to the whole CB/HH incident, I think the second Ninja got in the ring and stared down Coleman CB were in the wrong. Rather than rush in to take care of their team mate they became more concerned with rushing in to attack Coleman. Ninja, Wanderlei and Christiano Marcelo apparently threw punches at Coleman while Baroni took Wand down and Coleman then stood on his neck to keep him there. Coleman had stopped attacking Shogun and had noticed the injury, next thing he knows the rest of the team are trying to attack him. Shogun also needs to practice his breakfalls as he's rehabbing that dislocation.

WOW, Kharitonov sucks. You'd think he'd be able to, i dunno, TRY to get out from under Overeem. If he doesn't suck, then he must've broken a rib or something that limited his movement.

Try getting out from underneath someone with a fucked up shoulder mister know it all.

Silva was in the audience and facing the side of the ring that Shogun and Coleman fell into. Then after Ninja came in, Baroni dragged Coleman away to the other side of the ring to calm him down. Then Silva ran from a few rows into the audience, into the ring, then across the ring all the way to the other side, and tried to hit Coleman but Baroni took him down.

Chuteboxe was given a yellow card but Coleman and Hammerhouse didn't get any kind of punishment. I don't know why anyone would side with Chuteboxe on this one. Even the Pride officials are on Coleman's side. This is a pretty damn clear case and I don't know what all the debate on Sherdog is about.

Overeem is a beast when he doesn't have to cut weight. Always liked that guy.

Feel pretty bad for Kharitonov... guy just recovered from a shoulder injury just to have another one.

It was great watching the Coleman interview after the incident. I've never seen him talk so much.

Weight arguably has little to do with it. Overeem tends to fold when he starts to get tested, which Kharitonov failed to do. I'll wait until Overeem gets into a real battle at HW before I declare him a "beast."

I really can't see him fairing well against the big 3, for obvious reasons.

Truth.

Hey, it's Ninja sucker-punching a restrained Mark Coleman!

herecomeslilassninja8og.gif

Did you get that gif from Sherdog? If so, what thread was it?

http://tobago.globat.com/~ctennis.com/down...olemanafter.wmv

Have a look there.

I find it very ironic so many are quick to dismiss Sherdog because of stupid people on the forum. I don't think any internet forum is actually going to have much intelligent discussion. However we do have pro fighters, amateur fighters, jiu jitsu black belts, company presidents, martial arts association presidents and do our best to provide a decent news site that covers events internationally, good quality photos and an entertaining radio show. You can't really blame us for the people that choose to use the board, people sign up voluntarily, we don't invite them.

The member list is about 10% of that at Sherdog but the boys @ DVDVR trump the Sherdogians in terms of quality discussion/minimal stupidity.

Really? I always thought that the DVDR were guys who were self professed experts, MMA smartmarks to put it another way, who think they know more than they actually do. TUF fans who started watching a year ago and now think they know everything about the sport. Though of course there are guys like Naimark who know what they're talking about because they've been watching for years.

I've pimped this particular message board before, but I'll do it again: http://www.kakutougi.info.

Some professional fighters, people fed up over Sherdog, knowledgable posters, THE most up to date news on shit out of Japan.

Bloodyknux.com and upstandingfuckingcitizens.com are better sites produced by former Sherdog vets.
