It would be strange if Gono/Minowa fought since they (DSE) usually don't match up top natives against each other. Filho vs. Ninja makes sense since Ninja has expressed desires to drop to 185 and Chute Boxe has the natural rivalry thing going with BTT. A lot of people said that he would after his last few dominating performances, combined with his newfound bulk, but after this performance I'd expect exactly what happened in the first fight to happen again. However, the weight disparity would be lessened if Filho were to fight Dan. Damn Filho has excellent takedowns and ground control, but he grounded and pounded like a girl, damn. I felt bad for Ninja, I thought for sure he would be able to pull out the win. If Busta could take him down like that, I think Filho will do the same to Dan. He didn't look good against Misaki, he's too triggerhappy. Filho is like a bigger stronger, younger version of Busta when it comes to grappling, so I can see him pulling this one off. I think Baroni gets the title shot first though. Holy shit he looked good. Hansen's KO was fucking sweet, as was Pulver. I wish I saw the Gomi fight, rather than waiting for the spoiler. They expected him to become champ, as he lost a very controversial decision to the champ. And Baroni knocked him the fuck out, in less than a minute. That's serious, Phil is a long way removed from the losses to Tanner and Sell. Baroni is top ten for sure now, and at this point I might actually pick him against Hendo who looked bad against Misaki. Losing in the UFC all those times can be offset by the fact that he beat Minowa, Chonan and Kondo, two of them in less than two minutes combined. Chonan was considered a top five MW after beating Silva, while Kondo was considered a top MW after dropping weight. Baroni didn't look so bad in his losses, he was stopped at the end by Sell after beating on him for two and a half rounds while he took Tanner to a decision and had him damn near out on his feet in both fights. He never looked all that bad in losing, while he has looked real good in winning recently. If it's a case of what have you done for me lately, Drago and Tanner lost pretty badly after their wins, while Baroni has only looked better and stronger, and not against cans either. I wouldn't put him above Tanner or Lindland, but I'd still put him on the list. If he beats Dan or Busta or even Minowa if they lock up again I don't think you could justify keeping him off. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2006 With Baroni you can say he'd be competitive against anyone in the division, but being competitive and being in the top ten are two different things. Chonan is a perfect example of the Baroni Effect. Before the Baroni fight he was considered by some to be a top 185'er because of the Silva win, but then after Baroni beat him that talk sorta died down, and it was effectively dead after Hendo blasted through him. The Kondo win is less "WOW is Baroni good!" and more "WOW, does Kondo blow in PRIDE". Which is, again, the dreaded Baroni Effect. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
