Probably something about the party of the first party agrees to step in the ring with the second party in an exchange of ideas in a physical form. A third party will decide the winner of the confrontation by way of a numberical rising up to three.

They either bring up guys who are good wrestlers and lumber them with crappy gimmicks or guys who simply aren't ready yet because they need to fill up the roster. It's the same thing WCW did back in 2000.

Edge has won the King of the Ring, so his reasoning is that he's shown he can win multiple matches on a single show (they'll gloss over that he only won two in one night, not the traditional three) and wants in the title match. Then he wins both matches and everyone fucking hates him in the arenas afterward.

Exactly, except instead of competing in the match and winning the title, he goes away forever. Edge seems to be the only one getting heel heat against Cena because he's so damn good at what he does, so he's the only viable challenger at Mania, and Art's idea of incorparating the KotR past could really work.
