My 97 RAW comp

Recommended Posts

So I've got a handful of RAW's from 1997 and a couple tapes with some pretty big moments from RAW that year and I'm assembling a package of them onto a DVD, some of the highlights will be

Bret vs Sid title match

Owen vs Bulldog Euro finals

Bret's steel cage match with Sid and tirade

Bret's post WM XIII speech

Hart Foundation reformation

Austin/Hart streetfight

And whatever moments I can find on these tapes that remind me of what a cool year 97 was on RAW, when it was worth watching, just thought I'd share this with those here who'd appreciate it. Share you favorite moments too.

Off the top of my head, you need:

Owen/Bulldog vs. HBK/Austin

Cactus Jack vs. HHH

Austin stunning Vince for the first time

Shawn Michaels superkicking Bret in the wheelchair

Owen/Bulldog vs. Austin/Dude Love (Dude's first appearance)

Shawn Michaels/HHH vs. Undertaker/Mankind (DX forms)

I won't put those first two matches, only because they're on the Cactus and Monday Night RAW DVD, I know they're great (plus the footage I have isn't very good) This is a DVD comp mainly trying to steamline a bunch of these RAW episodes I have (I mean not like I need a Golddust vs Crush match, but Owen vs Flash Funk, during the Bulldog face turn tease period, that's cool)

I have the entire ECW invades RAW on an ECW comp DVD, so no need for it here.

But I appreciate the input.

Possibly the Flag Match in July, between the Hart Foundation and Austin, Dude, & Taker

The Bret-Patriot match the week before Summerslam was pretty cool, with just insane crowd heat throughout.

I haven't seen it since it first aired, but Bret vs. Shamrock for the title before Survivor Series was pretty cool, and then there was the post-match pull-apart brawl between HBK & Bret.

The Rock-Austin feud, particuarly the night after DX: IYH, where Austin forfeits the IC Title.

The Kliq footage the night after Badd Blood should be there

Maybe even Rick Rude's return/Michaels goes heel after SummerSlam

Shawn's 20 minute interview the day after Survivor Series and the nuclear heat

Austin stuns Slaughter, Ross, Lawler

Mind you, I only have a handfull of RAW's from 97 (about 12), so some of those moments sadly I don't have.

I've only seen the Bulldog/Owen title match once when it happen and I still consider it the best match in Monday Night wrestling tv history. Don't know if it holds up to date and wish I had money to buy a copy. That match and the Austin/Bret Survivor Series match is like rare classics too me, I've only seen those matches once. WWE always ignore Austin vs Bret part 1 and 3 and only remembers part 2(Mania).

I just seen the flag match from Raw a couple of weeks ago. Great match and still holds up well. Oddly enough, Cactus Jack vs. HHH streetight does not hold up well. I was watching this match a week ago and it was boring. I think the Funk vs. Foley match from Raw is more entertaining.

I never understood why WWE put the title back on Sid when Bret and Austin was the two hottest stars and was the selling point of the ppv?

Well if Bret went into WM with the title, he wouldn't have had a reason to be frustrated and miserable because of Austin. Or whine and complain on TV. If he had the title, why would he even have a problem with Austin? It would have just been a normal match, with no intensity and emotion. The double turn probably wouldn't have happened.

Also, they probably wanted to have Sid/Taker be for the title to try to get people to care about the match. Bret/Austin didn't need the title for people to care.

The segment with Austin on his ranch after getting the care package from the WWF and shooting at the deers with pictures of IIRC Ross, Slaughter, McMahon and Owen Hart.

Ha, I remember an issue of WWF Magazine with Austin on the cover and perhaps Owen's head on his wall that said Hunting Season, and the article had a bunch of shots of what you described above.

BUMP- Haven't done much with this tape yet, but I just recorded the Owen/Bulldog Euro finals match, still holds up (even if the tape quality isn't very good), I just want to, like I said, streamline some of the cool stuff I have onto one or two discs instead of 15 tapes.

Definitely put in the flag match from the Halifax RAW. Plus, the HBK promo announcing him as the guest ref for Summerslam, and the subsequent Bret/Vince fight from the same show.

That crowd was absolutely nuclear. You don't see crowds like that anymore.

Bret vs. Faarooq

Owen vs. HBK (Title for Title match)

Bret vs. Shamrock WWF Title

Owen vs. Ahmed IC Title

Bulldog vs. Vader (Hart Foundation beat the hell out of Patriot & Vader)

Also, you should include some Shotgun matches like Bulldog & Anvil vs. Patriot & Goldust, and Anvil vs. Patriot.
