The OAO Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Thread

Recommended Posts

The control isnt bad, yet anyway..all I can do is run around and summon the hawk. The graphics are kinda iffy although they kinda look better than just about any Gamecube game even RE4. The sound isnt bad at all either, and the speaker in the remote is pretty cool and utilized well so far.

Okay, so I obviously need to catch a fish to get the cat, but is anyone else having trouble with it? I occasionally get a bite from the fish, but nothing ever happens and it swims away before I can pull/reel it in.

Gamespot acts absolutely retarded in response to the complaints over their review: http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/gamespot/game...lash-215922.php

"It's the same damn game we've all been playing for the last 15-odd years. Hey, guess what? You get to go into dungeons...and find items...and put together pieces of heart to make new heart containers. I haven't gotten very far into it, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Triforce is in the mix at some point."

Pretty much every RPG deserves a 4/10 then, I guess.

they should never have responded. they wrote their review, just keep their mouths shut, let the fanboys rant and look stupid, and people will forget about it in a week.

edit: upon further inspection, seems like "they" didn't so much respond as a single editor posting on his blog. still, though.

jesus, what a retarded response...might as well stop making Castlevania games or Final Fantasy games or Metroid games...

of course, they probably could slow down on the Mario games...but still...

I can see the argument if the game was designed the same as the others. Meaning the dungeons and world don't look or play much different than the previous games. But if the game provides some different content, even if it follows the same formula, their argument is stupid. Every game genre has its formula, it's the content that fills in the formula that matters. I mean geez, you could make a case that 90% of the RPGs in existence are just all the same. If you ignore the differences in worlds, characters, and small changes to the plot and gameplay that is.

Wait am I understanding that Gamespot gave Zelda an 8.8 and people are bitching about it?

Oh, I've been playing it for a while now and while fun, swinging the sword the entire time is going to get real tiring, real quick.

If you have't figured it out yet, when you go to catch a fish next to the cat, whe the bobber is fully submerged, point the Wii remote up and the words "fish on" will show up. After that, just hold the remote up, don't jerk it, just point it up and Link will pull up the fish. It took me a little bit too, so don't worry.

People are, yes.

The problem is that the score is much lower than other publications, and the reasons cited aren't very good and/or conflict with other publications folks respect more. And one of his colleagues who is defending him is a moron.

It doesn't really matter to me because a site/magazine that uses tenths of a point/%s are inherently crap. Half a point on a ten-scale? Respectable. stuff like a 7.9 or a 79%? Idiotic. Leave the %s to Gamerankings/metacritic. It rounds it up to a 9/10 anyway.

For most of these sites (i.e. not 1up), 70 is an average game. 0-69% is used to determine where on the badness scale the bad games fall. And there's plenty of very stupid gamers who consider a game to be beneath them if it is below a certain number (sometimes it would be an 8 or a 9).

Just to add, that second paragraph in the actual review just comes off as being a smart-ass and does nothing but incite anyone who likes it or Zelda because of how its worded. It probably never meant to come off like that (however, considering what someone said in defense...) but it really does come off that way and I could see why people would take offense to the review as a whole when you take that paragraph and then the above.

That's simply embarassing. And not surprising from Gamespot. Even though I agree with the criticism towards Nintendo (I haven't played Zelda enough to go too far about this specific game), that was nothing but flame bait.

But, Zelda fans shouldn't have been going so nuts over the score. This Jeff guy has showed many times now that he's not too fond of the Wii. And in basically every paragraph, he tries to find faults. Which he's entitled to do... as I'm sure trying to find negativity about a game that's getting nothing but positive reviews elsewhere brings in readers. The part he was wrong and unprofessional about was his dig of the Wii's graphics.

Of course, this is the same guy that's bitched about the Wii's controls many times, yet in a video preview of Wii Sports, he sits on his fat ass the entire time and wonders why he isn't throwing the ball straight. So, yeah, take what he says with a grain of salt.

BUTT slapping monkeys are of course golden, first Okami now here :)

Someone needs to tell me if there are enemies as cool/freaky as the gremlins from Wind Waker that would come at you from all directions, running down walls, ceilings, etc. all the while, singing that song...

Does this Zelda just seem straight forward to anyone else? Maybe its just because I just got to Death Mountain but so far, everything just seems straight foward, like I don't have to explore that much at all.

Well..its sort of fun trying to figure out what you need to do in order to get somewhere but if you figure it out quickly I could see.

Naturally, I love the game.

I'm not about to say that the Wii controls are an absolute *perfect* fit for Twilight Princess, but darn it, makes a lot of things simpler.

Since you can assign your different gadgets to the d-pad on the wiimote, and also keep one mapped to B at all times, so far I haven't had to go to the submenu very often at all. Plus it helps that the sword functions free up a button to use whatever gadget you have equipped.

So far went through the Forest Temple. It definitely was surprisingly long for a beginning dungeon.

You don't have the shield bash attack from the start, right? I assume you acquire it later like the Finish skill.

Yes, you don't start with the shield bash, you get that one

as the 2nd learned skill, I believe.

Just so you know, the game only gets better as it goes on. I just completed the 3rd dungeon and things are really cooking now, in terms of story and everything.

anyone know where the 3rd secret skill is? I don't feel like passing it up.

Also, whats the deal with catching bugs? Is there a certain time when you can catch one? I saw one in hyrule field as I was wolf link and when I had a chance, I went back to that same spot as regular Link and the bug was gone.

So far the bug catching has been strictly in wolf form, whereas human Link can't do anything with them because only his wolf senses can properly detect them anyway.

Don't sweat it--it appears it is supposed to be that way.

The wolf sections aren't nearly as fun as playing as regular Link, though. Naturally, that's because they're going to have to stack up to Okami.

I just got the iron boots!

Since I've read that later in the game you can switch forms at will, I guess you can only do that later (as the game forces you to wolf form in the early bug-catching stages).

I lost my crummy original shield just before the Goron Mines boss room. I hadn't yet discovered a place to buy the traditional Hylian shield, and my money counter maxes out at 300 rupees anyway. Where can I get a replacement?

EDIT: nevermind. I didn't need it against the boss and was able to buy a Hylian Shield for 200 rupees at the "Malo Mart" anyway.

Before you go into the mines, after you return to normal Link form, you go into the store across from the house where the kids were staying. The shield is being sold there for 200 and the youngest brat is selling it.
