South Park Season 10 starts tomorrow

Recommended Posts

It was funny, but I didn't like the episode until the speech at the funeral saved it for me.

Up to that point, it just seemed like a childish and petty attack on Isaac. Something like that jackass Vince McMahon would do.

I pretty much agree, but the funeral speach just seemed like a cop out. I'd respect them a little more if they just went for a full out burial. If they wanted to take the high road, then they shouldn't have spent 90% of the episode shitting on the guy.

How did they spend 90% of the episode shitting on the guy? The entire episode was them shitting on Super Adventure Club and saying that Chef was brainwashed. The only thing Chef did wrong in the ep was make the decision to go back to them at the end. Then Kyle tells you not to blame Chef for it, blame the fruity little club. It wasn't an attack on Heyes at all.

I didn't get those references.

Well you need to watch the Scientology episode again. Find it on youtube and watch them back to back.

Even the plane that Chef was leaving on in the "previously on" segment was a reference to Scientology.

NEW YORK - Nothing like a little controversy to cook up a big audience. Last week's spat that pitted "South Park" against Scientology and Isaac Hayes, with a rumored dollop of Tom Cruise stirred in, led Wednesday night to the animated series' highest-rated season premiere since 2002, according to a Comedy Central spokesman.

An estimated 3.5 million viewers — including 2.3 million in the advertiser-coveted 18-to-49 age bracket — tuned in to watch the show unleash a new salvo against Scientology.

To fanofcoils: remember the scientology episode of South Park? Isaac Hayes, the man who voices Chef, is a scientoligist. He got mad at Matt and Trey over that episode, and quit South Park. Matt and Trey made this episode as a response, paying tribute to Hayes and further bashing scientology, which they blame for causing the problem.

To everyone else: this poor schmuck knows not what he says or does. Go easy on him.

I didn't realize they were paying tribute to Hayes until upon further review, it seemed they were bashing Hayes initially with basically everything what Chef says throughout the episode "to the children".

How come there was virtually no coverage of scientology until the past year?

South Park makes fun of EVERYTHING sooner or later... but out of respect for Hayes, they delayed doing a scientology episode for years. But they finally couldn't hold back anymore and did it (cuz scientology is really damn weird, and deserves all the mocking it gets), and then... contronversy erupts, as it usually does with South Park.

That .gif of Randy Marsh is awesome.

He truly is a God amongst men.

And fanofcoils, I didn't know who you were before this thread. I wish I were still so lucky.

Go check out the Hills Have Eyes thread, seriously.

Had Tom Cruise not started to act like the biggest tool of all time last year, I doubt they even would have done the episode in the first place. They didn't really have a choice after all of his bullshit. I mean, how can South Park not dive in after all of that after the way he was acting.

So, you are now Papa Jingas to fanofcoils? ;)

fanofcoils: check out these sites:

The first one, Operation Clambake, basically is where we learned the secret "truths" that you saw illustrated in the In the Closet ep. It isn't something they put in their pamphlets, since it would scare any sensible person away.

It's something that is revealed after years of brainwashing, when members are surrounded by other members, have brought in family members, and have spends thousands of dollars supporting the "church."

The Rotten article basically sums up everything quite well.

funyn right after I posted before the ep aired I htought "wouldn't it be funny if they just splice din Chef's voice?"

anyway I enjoyed it very much and thought it a fitting end to the Chef character (despite the goofy nature of the episode )

The SAC guy's threats to call security and be escorted out in front of everybody to laugh, was kind of funny

"Now that you know our secrets, I'm going to have to ask you to leave"

"Im gonna MAKE LOVE....to..the children

This episode was subtle with the scientology stuff. Since it was subtle, I "didn't get the jokes" that happened later in the episode. It is the episode's fault that it didn't tell the story better in making things less subtle. Especially since right before the episode aired, Matt Stone and Trey Parker bashed Isaac Hayes so it is possible that some people (including me) would think they were bashing Hayes in the beginning. After the beginning, I wasn't sure what they were joking about in some of the jokes because they were subtle.

Stan persuades all the citizens of South Park to buy hybrid cars. A disaster of epic proportions threatens the town and Stan is to blame -- just as everyone starts to feel really good about what they’re doing to help save the earth, scientists discover a stormy, dark mass accumulating over the town.

At least with "The Hills Have Eyes" you said that you weren't fully paying attention thus explaining some of your ignorance but I still think you need someone next to you during movies and tv shows to explain what's going on cause it seems that EVERYTHING is subtle to you.

Don't go blaming the episode because South Park has more respect for their viewers than say...a Vince McMahon. Honestly...What do you want? For them to wink and say "get it?" after every joke.

This reminds me of that "Vote or Die" episode of South Park. I was watching it with a group of friends and someone said: "Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich represent Bush and Kerry". That was followed by someone else going: "Well duh, what kind of fucking idiot wouldn't get that?"

This episode was very subtle, some of the jokes weren't obvious unless you knew what they were talking about. This episode was probably more subtle than usual because I usually "get" all the jokes of South Park.

After Trapped in the Closet, Matt and Trey were on the scientology radar. As everyone knows scientologist love to sue people over the most ridiculous things, which is why in that episode in the credits it only listed John and Jane Doe as contributors. They were subtle enough so that the scientologist can't touch them, but they don't underestimate their viewers intelligence so they make it so that anyone knew what their overall messsage was going to be.

The jokes weren't subtle or hidden. Just because they didn't use a "bull in a china shop" approach doesn't mean the references were hard to get.

I was just listening to the commentary on the SP episode where Timmy joins a band and the town gets hooked on ritalin, and in the commentary they are talking about how Isaac Hayes loved the show, because Scientology is totally against ritalin and stuff like that. Then they went on to say that for all the goofy stuff they believe, every once in a while there's a gem, even a fool's right every once in a while, like the nazis.

Alright episode. The rip on George Clooney was great (face it, he deserved it), but it felt too much like they've said a lot of this before.

Kyle and Ike on acid was gold though.

The way they were all talking with their eyes closed...that was funny to me. As well as all of the wives having their own names and the children having hiphenated names...also funny. I know too many people like that.

But, yeah...the Clooney cloud was the best.

Decent episode.

I enjoyed the episode but the fart smelling got old. The rest was great, including the shots at people who turn into smug assholes because they bought a hybrid. Bout time someone called them on it.

It's amazing Clooney still likes these guys. You'd think by now he'd hate them.

The Clooney cloud was stupid.

The funniest thing in the episode was Cartman throwing a farewell party for Kyle and not inviting him and everyone's reaction to that.

Oh you know Ike saying he wanted three hits of acid was the funniest thing about the episode.
