Dangerous A Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Can't say yes on the dinuguan. I've heard of it, but haven't had it. I've had puto (ok) and leche flan (pretty good). Can't say yes to the rest of it, although I may have had them, just that I don't remember the names because my mother (her side is Filipino) and her siblings would just shove food in my face and say eat it and I wouldn't ask what it was, I'd just down it.

Can't blame you.
Ced Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I'm a bit iffy on halo halo personally, the overall taste is good, but the texture bothers me at times. Puto is OK in my book, but cutchinta, the orange rice cakes, are a simple but good treat when I can get them (adding shredded coconut on top offends me though). While I'm talking sweets, polvoron was a favorite of mine as a kid though I haven't had it in ages. I'll probably never move out of California since I pretty much need a family member or Goldilocks nearby for Filipino food. Aside from the sweets, the sweeter varieties of longanisa are great in my book as well. And for the record, I do eat balut, kinda sorta. The duck goes in the trash, but I find the taste of the egg yolk pleasing to the pallet with a little bit of salt. And dinuguan is good with rice, but I always refer to it as chocolate meat, so I didn't really know what you were talking about. BTW, Brian, do you have Filipino in you or do you have close ties? I'm a bit surprised about the dishes you know about.
Guest Brian Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I'm a half-breed. I love cutchinta but my mom doesn't cook it so I have no idea how it's done. Halo-halo's one of thoe once a summer treats like ube ice cream that I like to have once in a while.
