Yeah, so how many TV shows are influenced by the Gatchaman Tv starting? In particular, I'm talking about the famous moment where you see all the Gatchaman members form a circle with their hands while flying through the air. If you want you can talk about other things Gatchaman has influenced as well.

So far this is what I've found. Some big time markout moments here

1)Bionic 6 Tv starting

2)SilverHawks

3)Sailor Stars Series from Sailor Moon

What the hell are you guys talking about?

Gatchaman is a famous Japanese anime from 1972 that had a lot of influence in particular the team concept.

Lately I've noticed a few shows have used a famous part of the Gatchaman opening. The part where all the team members form a circle and fly down from the sky. It's about half way through the Gatchaman opening. You can see it here -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHLXL1UrWYs&search=Gatchaman

A few of the replies here were of the joke variety since Gathaman is also famous for perhaps being the most altered show that was ever translated from its original source. It had various different names here in the States.

I enjoy Gatchaman as much as the next nerd, but the premise of this thread is taking things a little too far. Your obsessing over a few seconds of an obscure cartoon opening having an impact on other even more obscure cartoon openings.

If anything, I'd argue that ALL of these examples rip-off the types of manuevers that actual sky-divers do at shows.

The entire Super Sentai/Power Rangers franchise was inspired by Gatchaman. Super Sentai even did a homage to Gatchaman with the 1991 Super Sentai series "Jetman", which most people don't know, was originally supposed to be the basis for Power Rangers before they decided to use the more marketable dinosaur-centric ZyuRangers Sentai series.........

Voltron

Cool. I never really watched Voltron before. I'll have to check that out.

1) The team from Voltron is almost an exact copy of the team from Gatchaman (girl, hoss, midget)

2) When the lions form Voltron they do it in Gatchaman formation

3) Watch the show on mute with subtitles

I enjoy Gatchaman as much as the next nerd

This thread needs to go to 987342 pages with nothing but pictures.

Yes, Voltron, Power Rangers, etc. were all influenced by Gatchaman. But we're talking about a few seconds of the OPENING CREDITS, not the impact of the show itself.

I just watched the preview for the 2nd episode of Voltron. I can't believe how violent it was. Eyes popping out, blood all over the place, I think there might've been a beheading, decapitated limbs and so on.

Picture #1 of 987342 -- Panties

You know WP, I've never seen Gatchaman, but I know how to spell it.

Have you seen Vision of Escaflowne yet? It probably fucks every anime show you like in the ass.

If you want a space saga, watch Irresponsible Captain Tylor. It, at times, is the funniest thing I've seen. It has the greatest climactic scene I've ever seen. It's a wonderful show. ICT is So up your alley.

As an addendum, and overview. It's about a total idiot savant who takes over a piece of shit space-cruiser. He's lazy, lecherous, pathetic and brilliant. He's totally naive. Seriously, the climax of the series to William Tell's orchestra is brilliant, totally logical and moving. It's the most optimistic, wonderful thing.

Well, that's cool you know how to spell it.

Nope, I haven't seen it yet. Sometimes it takes me years until I get around to watching a show. Interestingly, the show didn't do too well with the youngsters overhere on the FoxKids lineup.

I will keep an eye out for these shows and when I do watch them I will get back to you.

Fox Kids ran Vision of Escaflowne, but apparently completely nuetered it.

It's not a particularly bloody or vicious anime, but it's not for kids. Watch the original.

Half of the experience is Yoko Kanno's score. She's a fucking genius. She did the music for Cowboy Bebop (Jazz, eclectic, western) Macross Plus (Techno) and Escaflowne (Orchestral.) If I could give you my ICT tapes I would, you'd love that series.

I've got Yoko Kanno music on tape and CD. I fell in love with her music years ago. She's not the type of musician either where it's the same song over and over again as there's variety in her craft.
