CanadianGuitarist Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Anyone see the remarkably good finish in the Kraft-Nabisco yesterday? Far easier to watch based on Mickelson's run-away. Masters picks? It's my favourite week of the year and I'd say my favourite sporting event as well. Mickelson's performance would have put him in spot B, but I don't see Tiger's heart being in it, and as such, Mick's the man. My darkhorse pick is Luke Donald(let's agree anyone outside of the Big 5,for argument's sake, is a darkhorse) after a weekend-long debate with my dad. I'm not trying to come off as biased, but Weir deserves a bid as well, a win and T5th in the last two tourneys, and he's been playing faiirly well this year, and it's tough to imagine him not getting better on Sundays.
CanadianChris Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 I've got a dark horse for you -- David Howell. You're going to need to hit it straight on this course, hit decent iron shots and putt well, and he can sure do all of those. That said, my pick is still Mickelson.
razazteca Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 VJ Sing for the win, Ernie Els to place, and Mike Weir to finish.
Vern Gagne Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 I'll take Woods to win. I think he'll be able to put aside his father's illness. My darkhorse is Olazabal.
CanadianChris Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 How cool is it to see Gary Player leading the Masters again, if only after two holes?
CanadianChris Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Yeah, that's pretty nice. I still doubt he'll make the cut, though. Probably 77 or 78 tomorrow. Vijay on top at -5. I can't think of many players I'd like to see win less.
Red Baron Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 I don't want Vijay to win. I don't like him at all. I hope Jimenez wins, which would be awesome.
CanadianChris Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 Chad Campbell will likely be the leader at the end of the day at -6. Vijay's having a pretty piss-poor round so far. Weir's making a charge, 3 back as he makes the turn. EDIT: And of course, as soon as I post that he bogeys three of the next four holes. I'll shut up now.
CanadianGuitarist Posted April 7, 2006 Author Report Posted April 7, 2006 Part of me is REALLY pulling for Fred Couples. Crenshaw winning would be pretty cool as well, as he posted a 72, still -1 for the week. Campbell frightens me, as he's quietly one of the better players on tour and can play on Sundays. Freddie just stuffed one on 12, after a looooong wait to gauge the wind.
CanadianChris Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Dammit. Rain on Saturday, which means we won't get to see most of the third round, since they won't televise it tomorrow morning. This sucks. Two years in a row.
Vern Gagne Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Part of me is REALLY pulling for Fred Couples. Crenshaw winning would be pretty cool as well, as he posted a 72, still -1 for the week. Campbell frightens me, as he's quietly one of the better players on tour and can play on Sundays. Freddie just stuffed one on 12, after a looooong wait to gauge the wind. Considering he's only won three times, how great is his Sunday play?
CanadianChris Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Holy crap, the third round is being televised on USA right now.
CanadianChris Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Nice even-par stretch for Darren Clarke from 13 through 16...eagle, par, triple bogey, birdie.
Red Baron Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Phil Mickelson is in the lead. CG is probably going apeshit right now. I watched this special on the FBR Open about the 16th hole at Scottsdale. The fans are nuts there, but I so want to join.
CanadianChris Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 How about this leaderboard after 3 rounds: Mickelson -4 (70) Couples -3 (72) Campbell -3 (75) Ames -2 (70) Woods -2 (71) Clark -2 (72) Clarke -2 (72) Singh -2 (73) Mediate -2 (73) Jimenez -1 (69) Goosen -1 (72) Furyk E (68) Cink E (71) Mayfair E (73) Els E (74) This is going to be some finish.
Red Baron Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Considering anyone can really win this thing, and no one hasn't really lit up the course that good this week.
Hawk 34 Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 The networks have to be going ape-shit about such a tight pack with names (Hefty, Couples, Woods, Singh, Jimenez, Goosen) with some new blood. I'll put my 'internet' money on Couples. No reason, anyone but Woods really for me.
Guest Smues Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I'm sure Tiger is going to win, but I would absolutely LOVE to see Couples win this thing. Mickleson would also be nice, but I would just love to see Freddy pull it off.
Hawk 34 Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Hefty, holds the lead over Couples/Olazabal/Singh/Clark for the moment. Up 2 over them.
Guest Smues Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 This has been a really entertaining final round. Tiger started to get hot at the end but bogied 17 thankfully. Phil has a 4 shot lead and would have to really choke to lose this so huzzah for him. Four players tied at -4 so I'm rooting for Freddy to finish second and get himself a nice chunk of change.
Guest Smues Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 And the guy I feel really bad for is Mediate. He was 3 under and I think 3 out of the lead then he takes 10 strokes on a par 3 and kept sliding from there to finish with an 80 for the day and +8 overall.
haVoc Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Looks like Mickleson is going to take it all. I'm in a pole at work so I'll win $310 when he wins.
Guest Smues Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 A pole? And huzzah for Phil winning and now Tiger having to give HIM the green jacket.
Red Baron Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Damn, I wish Freddie would have won, or at least alone at second, but it shows you that you do not need to lengthen the course to suit for the long ballers. Good show by both Canadians both finished for a tie for 11th.
CanadianGuitarist Posted April 10, 2006 Author Report Posted April 10, 2006 Until about the 13th, this was an enormously entertaining Sunday. Baron, I was glad to see Mick win, but I would have been THRILLED to see Freddie pull it out. Just imagine if he had made that putt at 14..or the following. I might have to make a Tiger/Phil picture reminiscinent of the Schilling/Palmerio 'nigga please' signature last year.
The Robfather Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 This is the first time I ever watched any golf for more than 5 minutes. I actually enjoyed it.
Danville_Wrestling Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I was waiting for Mickelson to pull out a wrestling-style promo in Butler Cabin when Woods was sitting next to him. Sure, it wasn't going to happen because Mickelson is a classy guy and so is Woods but I could definitely sense a lot of tension in the air. Heck, Mickelson tooks Tiger's seat when they first sat down and then didn't want to/forgot to shake his hand after he was presented with the jacket. Regardless, I'm glad Mickelson won and I made a killing in fantasy golf with him and Tim Clark this week. However, I really wanted to see Olazabal pull out a rally after that eagle on 15 and somehow win the jacket. That would've been something.
The Robfather Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 This reminds me of the days when Ted DiBiase would have Virgil put his million dollar belt on for him.
