Thoughts on the new WWE talent

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what the deal is with Danny Doring. My brother insists he is also in OVW as Deuce Shade's tag partner. They do a 50s greaser gimmick. I'm not sure since it doesn't look that much like him to me, and he's going by some other name.

Umaga - Samoa Joe if he went to WWE?

That was Meltz's little joke in this week's Observer, but I didn't find it funny, because the scary reality is that "Umaga" is probably what would have become of him had Joe signed with the WWE.

Yeah, probably.

But, Joe has the ability to avoid that.

I realise that Carlito has the Cabana and whatever, but if they end up signing Colt Cabana, Chris Guy just isn't going to cut it as a name. Unless they give him a gimmick where he tries to be really wacky, but deep down he's just 'Chris Guy' and his wackiness doesn't last for long before he becomes far too normal again.

Or they could just not sign him and let him have a viable career in ROH like Jamie Noble had, once. Either or.

Chris Guy, was just a rib towards Ace Steel (Two years ago, Ace Steel used Colt's real name in a skit with WWE)

Carlito, hasn't used Cabana in a while and since he is a face now...I don't expect him to revive his Jericho/Piper knock-off. Cabana, can't stay in ROH forever. Gibson, didn't really have a 'career' in ROH, it was more of a stint. He intended to return to WWE, all along.

That being said, Cabana has a greater chance then Punk in WWE.

put me down as a fan of the Spirit Squad...Kenny obviously, like everyone else, but I like Mikey more than Johnny...I don't think it's his wrestling ability as much as it is how goofy and into the character he is.

Don't even call Cabana a nobody again!

See, I see Colt as having a better future in WWE than say, Joe.

Cuz man, his promos are golden.

Punk would be ditto.

It's not that they cannot work, because they can. But they're more than just good work, and possibly known for more than their work.

Joe IS his work, he is like Danielson in that respect. That's good for him in other places, but it would kill him in WWE.

So would vinny's racism too. UMAGA!?

The newer guys I watch for:

Carlito, this guy can be fucking huge. I just hope he's allowed to stop holding back so much.

Paul Burchill, I like the guy anyway, but he pulled off a shitty gimmick, and made it work. Then he has skills to back him up.

MNM are the best thing the WWE has done tag-wise in ages. And Nitro will mos def be the breakout star when they split. And Melina needs to go to Raw after the split.

Mr. Kennedy can be huge.

John Cena, if he stops holding back, will be in the Main Event for a long time.

Mickie James, without Jazz, Ivory or Jaqueline around, and Victoria not doing much, she's the best thing to happen to women's division in a long ass time.

The Spirit Squad, at least 3 of these dudes will be around in a few years.

Shelton Benjamin, if he keeps his shit together, and no more Momma, his fued with RVD can give him the boost he needs to get his cred back. And he's getting a little better with the mic. If he can't figure out the mic game, or get a manager that works well, he's fucked.

Armando Alejandro Estrada, I haven't seen enough to really judge him, but I like what I've seen.

Eugene, if he could ever get a new gimmink and get the fans to buy it, he could be in the upper midcard foe a good while, with maybe a main event push every once in a while.

Maria, I loves me some Maria.

Rene Dupree could be good if they let him.

Rob Conway could be good if they let him.

Umaga. *sigh* Why couldn't they just reform 3MW.

Daivari, can really go far as a manager. Plus, when he does get stuck in the obligatory 'Manager vs. Wrestler' matches, they don't suck.

Kristal, I loves me some Kristal.

Boogeyman, I dunno, I just love this gimmick. He needs to go away when he's not over anymore, though.

Kid Kash, I dig him. He can almost play a damn good cocky heel, but he sucks at WWE style promos.

Shane Helms, I've always been a big fan, but he suffers from the same thing as Kash concerning his promos.

London and Spanky are an awesome fucking tagteam. They're so fucking cool, nobody has any clue at all what the hell thier gimmicks are, and they're still over. And Spanky's "Let's Go!" Theme rocks my asshole.

Jillian Hall is an excellent manager, and knows how to work a match. She shoul go to Raw along with Melina. They could have one hell of a women's division right now, especially with the overness of the Mickie angle.

The Great Khali is FUCKINGOHMYGODHUGE. 'Nuff Said.

Rey has been around for a minute now, but I can see him in the Main Event for a good ammount of time, bouncing from there to the mid-card and back.

Finlay, I loves me some Finlay.

Batista will be in the Main Event untill he falls apart, unless he gives it up like Booker T.

Kurt Angle will die in the fucking ring probably. But he'll be around the top of the card for a long while.

Randy Orton, I'm hoping this a whole Suspension deal is a work, and he can actually get over from an angle from it. Dude's probably finished, though. I hope he can grow up a little bit and realise he's being handed the fucking world right now.

That's about it, I'll stop rambling now.

Peace

I find using Angle, Mysterio, Batista, Helms, Orton, Benjamin and Cena on a list of "newer" talent funny. Considering that they all have been with the WWE for over at least 3 years now and in most cases, have been steady main eventers.

A few things:

I don't think it's fair to say Singh/Khali killed a guy in the ring. From what I understand, the wrestler had an existing brain condition that caused his death. Saying "Khali is so sloppy he killed a guy in the ring" is unfair, at least from what I understand.

As far as the Great Khali in WWE...well, he's physically impressive. As a young mark I was pretty much in awe of Giant Gonzalez, and that's the kind of fan that is going to get into this feud, the kids and marks. Probably won't have a long shelf life unless he proves he can work, and then we'll get the inevitable Khali/Big Show feud.

A.A. Estrada looks like he has a lot of potential. I really thought his interview with Flair was good in establishing him. I don't know why a character like his would be paired with Umaga, though. It seems like such a weird combo...a Cuban version of Ric Flair (except as a manager), and this Samoan savage character.

As far as Umaga, I don't have too much of a problem with the gimmick...wrestling always has a place for gimmick wrestlers. Not everyone can be a straight up Chris Benoit or Ric Flair type "normal" wrestler. I wish they'd at least explain the character though, like how he came to be paired with Estrada, etc. From the little ringwork we've seen of him, I think he's definitely improved from his last stint, though. And I admit, I marked for the Asiatic Spike, because I'm a mark for old school submission finishers.

The Spirit Squad still come off like a bunch of faggots. I hope they break up soon so the more talented guys can actually build some decent characters, the rest can go back to OVW or get fired for all I care.

I like The Spirit Squad too. Pretty funny. But, here's a question. Am I the only one that can't tell any of them apart? They all pretty much look the same to me. Yeah one might be a little bigger then the other or have slightly darker hair but, really I can't tell who's who.

I guessing the ones who can tell them apart had been watching them in OVW alot.

It's kind of the point to make them look identical. I'm sure once Doane and Jeter break off, they will get different looks.

on the 4/16 Spanish edition of RAW, the announcers acknowledged Colt as "Colt Cabana" and not "guy"! But I don't see him more as a jobber/prelim in the WWE and if he got over - in the words of Vincent Kennedy McMahon, "You're Fired!"

As long as the name was a one time rib, that's okay, but not as a long term name.

If Cabana has to go anywhere I'd rather he go to TNA. Call it a clichéd opinion, but in TNA he can be the Colt Cabana he is now and chances are he'd progress up the card into a healty position. I don't see that happening in the WWE and man, I loves me some Cabana. Seeing the Nobles and the Londons feeding off of scraps is bad enough. Punk in OVW is bad enough. Cabana? That'd be terrible. I agree he has a better chance than Punk though. Cabana's got natural charisma and if they allow him to act goofy, he'd win over the fans a lot easier than Punk. Plus, Cabana's got a more 'WWE sized' physique than Punk. A Cabana/Punk straight guy/goofball combination has the potential to be big though.

The Great Khali - not impressed. He's exceedingly difficult to understand. And a karate chop to the forehead? What is that about?

Umaga - again, unimpressive. Rosey was better.

Spirit Squad - I'm quite liking the Spirit Squad. From what we've seen they're not bad in the ring. Their ridiculous enthusiasm is also pretty entertaining.

Umaga, best known as Jamal of Three Minute Warning and All Japan fame, CAN make an impact dependent on how he is utilized...Positive - 1st week, he took Flair out...BIGGEST NEGATIVE - 2nd week his finishing move is the "dreaded Asianic spike" that Mr Fuji/Kendo Nagaski popularized...what will happen in Week 3 - the "pearl habour" comment and "salt in the face" returning. Man, what other things will Vince do to offend people?!

Asiatic Spike.

Also, Umaga is being billed as from the Island of Samoa.

I dunno how The Miz's gimmick can work. He tries to be funny, that's his gimmick, it sucks.

Its a bad sign when your running around WWE headquarters trying to promote your gimmick and somebody there has to ask him what he does there, that shows me that he doesnt posess the natural charisma, attitude and character the a pro wrestler should have. I dont think that Stone Cold or The Rock ever had to be asked by someone what they did at WWE headquarters.
