Comments that which don't warrant a thread

Eyes. That's my thing. Which is funny, because I love Fulci's Zombi 2, where the most gruesome scene is the splinter-meets-eye scene.

And you forgot Chopper Chicks in Zombietown among Troma's best titles. Let's not forget the alleged rejected name of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's first film, Cannibal! The Musical, as suggested by Lloyd Kaufman himself: FUDGEPACKER: THE MUSICAL.

And Milky, I'd watch your movies. Waters is a demented genius (even if some of his shit is downright unwatchable, at least you can tell he believes in his schlock), and I'm a total mark for Zombie. Roth, though...blech. Throw some Lloyd Kaufman influence in there, and maybe some James Gunn/Trent Haagas-inspired writing, and you'd make my favorite movies ever.

Well, I really only like Roth's film maker/rock star posturing, but I suppose you could just as easily credit Tarantino for that. I'm actually writing something now that's basically a pitch black comedy about retail jobs. Sort of like Clerks meets Falling Down. I think it won't cost very much and will be easy to relate to, so I'm hoping it has some legs.

If I had my druthers I'd make a period piece about hookers and a serial killer set in the 50s American midwest. My 50s idea is the one I hold onto.

Oh it is, I just think "nihilist Clerks" is easy to sell. Kinda like how Tarantino wrote Reservoir Dogs because you could make it on a shoestring budget when True Romance and Natural Born Killers were probably better ideas.

My 50s one is all in the execution. Believe me, I'd make it work. This is sort of extended from my Stephen King fandom, particularly The Body/Stand By Me and Sometimes They Come Back. Like that, but with a Milky attitude.

Well, yeah, but I expected you to be on some total dada/Outsider Art tip and you can make that shit for less than nothing. Like, just film a pretty girl putting make-up on and add a voiceover of someone reading passages from The 120 Days of Sodom. Intercut with images of dead fish/the Armenian Genocide. Soundtrack with Ornette Coleman.

Nah, that's what I do with my music career. I long ago gave up expecting to make any money, I just do it for fun. But I actually would like to find an audience for my films. And if I did, that would give me the means to put out albums that nobody in their right mind would want to listen to.

Just saw Hancock today and the music/camera work of the film totally reminded me of NBC's Friday Night Lights - even had the little kid and Layla's Dad in it!

Oh shit, that WAS the kid from Friday Night Lights.

Peter Berg is awesome, I think my love for him has reached gay levels.

I read some of Steve-O's updates about being institutionalized for destroying his brain with drugs and alcohol. While he seems alright, it's sort of sad to see him like that, as I always liked his fun loving party animal image.

He used the term "funny farm" to refer to the place he's in, and it got me thinking about the Chevy Chase movie. It's actually pretty good.

Dr. Farthing, what happened to your arm?

Well, it was from either sleeping on it the wrong way, or bookmakers throwing me out of a speeding car.

Completely had a brainfart on Caddyshack (and The Three Amigos). I know it's comedy blasphemy but I've never seen Caddyshack. I should get on that shit yesterday.

And Dirty Work came to mind because I watched part of it yesterday on The Movie Channel. Bob will hate me for this- but it didn't hold up quite as well as I remembered. It's still sort of funny but you can kind of see why we haven't seen an abundance of Norm MacDonald movies. Chevy Chase is still hillarious in it though. Easily the funniest thing he's done in the past twenty years.

"What I don't understand is...when you owe a bookie a lot of money, and he, say, blows off one of your toes, you still owe him the money. That doesn't seem fair to me. Especially when he's going to kill you in four days anyway."

Norm's one of those guys, who anything he does or says is hilarious to me (see A Minute with Stan Hooper), and everytime I watch Dirty Work, I die laughing. It's my favourite movie.

Is the acting and directing horrible? Yes. But that's part of it's charm. The way they write off Dr. Farthing is great.

Screwed is so bad, yet I laugh anyway

Man, Screwed. I'm one of the six people who saw that movie! I used to like that one just as much as Dirty Work. I haven't seen it since it first came out on DVD and I really doubt it'd hold up. The only specific thing I remember was Danny DeVito with the weird wig and goatee he had yelling "I'M SCREWED!" a lot. Oh and a gay Sherman Helmsley.

Isn't Norm going to be a panelist on the new Match Game? That's a perfect fit.

Prepare to be (slightly) underwhelmed. For how legendary it is, Caddyshack really isn't that great. They spend too much time on the actual caddies when you just want to see Chevy and Rodney and them acting a fool. Yeah, Happy Gilmore is a better golf movie.

Norm MacDonald really gets me too. He has a very particular style, and it's just funny as all hell to me. I love his comedy album, Ridiculous, which I don't know, may have been a reference to that scene in Dirty Work. "You know what hurts the most is the lack of respect. Except for the other thing, that hurts the most... but the lack of respect hurts the second most. You guys have got a lot of growing up to do I can tell you that. RIDICULOUS!" I hope I'll be physically able to respond like that if I ever get raped.

I was watching a Bob Sagat special and enjoyed the pop he got for mentioning Dirty Work, followed by his "Where the fuck were you that weekend?" (or whatever he said) response.

"Dirty Work" has, bar none, the best dead hookers joke of all time.

Hey homeless guys is what kills me everytime.

Plus, Gord Martineau is in it!

I saw Screwed opening night in theatres. There was a kid in my grade there, and I thought: Whoa, I didn't know Joey was a Norm fanatic, time to make a new friend!

On Monday, Joey's response was: Whoa, that's what we saw? Dude, I was so baked, we just walked into anything

I actually DID that bit with Jim Downey (The homeless guy)

He then asked his girlfriend to come quick because "The Dirty Work fans are attacking me!"

I've heard that but I still think it's one of those movies you're sort of obligated to see if you're a comedy fan. I'll probably just watch it next time, it comes on HBO. Oddly enough, I have seen about a half hour of Caddyshack 2 and that's probably why I've waited so long to see the first one. Poor poor Dan Aykroyd. He's easily my favorite original SNL castmember and he's probably been in even more shitty movies than Chevy Chase.

And I went nuts when I saw Jim Downey in There Will Be Blood. So random. And checking his wikipedia, he's Robert Downey Jr's uncle. What a life.

Oh yeah, it's worth watching, no doubt.

This is completely changing the subject, but I'm prepared that I admit that I sort of like Wild Wild West. Will Smith and Kenneth Branaugh are charismatic, Kevin Kline is passable. Sure, the part where they traded black/cripple jokes was cringeworthy, but the the steampunk elements were badass. I'm a major fan of steampunk, yet somehow all the movies that get made in the genre mostly suck.

I had to restrain myself from flipping out when I saw him in There Will Be Blood. Yes, I admit I'm pathetic. He's one of the most awesome people on the planet.
