Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 Oh I just mean ATHs area always good for recruiting when the field isn't strong or you need to pick up higher ranking players. ATHs are pretty easy to obtain as a lower ranking team. But yes, they are very hit and miss. You need to actually pay attention to what the scouting reports say and if they do say that they are worse than originally, you drop'em fast. Or at least I did. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 How many in-season commitments do you guys nail? The first two seasons I got two, and this year I have 3 and currently have another soft verbal. How many points per player do you assign?
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Depends how good your team is... When I'm a good team that wins most of its games, I'll usually target 6-7 that have me at least Top 5 on their list. That's roughly 15% each. Then make slight changes throughout the year, like lessen points for a kid that has me well in 1st on their list. I usually get the players I give points to... but, sometimes the ND's and such will nab them from you unexpectedly.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Hopefully, this upcoming season will be my strongest recruiting class so far, since I get off my 2 year probation from year one and am nationally ranked and gunning for the BCS title game. This season already I nabbed the #1 RB, #2 OLB and #2 DE, and am about to make it official with the #2 CB. Luckily, alot of the seniors that are leaving are garbage players with low ratings that don't play anyway.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 How many in-season commitments do you guys nail? The first two seasons I got two, and this year I have 3 and currently have another soft verbal. How many points per player do you assign? I think the most I've gotten in a season is 5. I usually recruit the max, then try to spread out the recruiting points by interest (more interested, more points). Eventually, the pretenders will drop out and I'll reassign their points. If you have a good season, they're ready to schedule a visit by week 10 or so (I think I actually had one ready to visit by week 8, but he was from my state and had me as his #1 by far). Be careful about scheduling their visits. I've had a lot of soft verbal commits stolen from me because I pitched the wrong thing to them. Don't have them visit until you're either sure about what they like, or are about to visit someone higher than you (in which case they're probably going to end up there anyway). iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Well, I started off my GT dynasty with an OT loss to Notre Dame, then left town for three days, so when I came back, I was naturally rusty and lost to Stanford as well. (Brilliant add to the schedule.) Since then though, I've been rolling pretty well. I beat Troy something like 54-6, then I beat Virginia 31-21, and lastly I beat Va. Tech 30-9. The VT game's actually got me worried a little that things might get too easy since they were an A, but I did get a lot of breaks (3 takeaways, no giveaways), so I'll just assume things are fine for now. I was ranked until I lost to Stanford, and I was kind of pissed to see that the VT game didn't even bring me back to the "receiving votes" stage, but whatever. One thing I was wondering is how you check your national rank when you're not in the Top 25 without actually starting a new game. Is it still possible? You used to just be able to hit select on a game that you hadn't played yet, but that doesn't work any more. Oh, and that pitch thing is interesting. I'd been reading their little comments, but I certainly hadn't been paying attention to what they said. I should have figured that it would be useful at some point. teke184 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Up to midseason of year 1 on my Campus Legend game. LSU is now 6-0, with the most recent win being a 54-7 asswhipping of then-#4 Florida. My team is now #1 in the polls, jumping USC despite them not losing a game. My Campus Legend, Fresman QB Ron Mexico, is now the leading contender for the Heisman. One of his top receivers, Senior WR Dwayne Bowe, is another top contender. (If he starts getting too close to Mexico, I'll bench his ass) I'm hoping that the upcoming midterm exam will be as easy as the practice ones from the tutor, as it should allow my QB to do more training and less studying in the near future. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 The most useful pitch I find works is the "coaching style". Most players care about that one, so I usually go that one. And those that do like the coaching style are players that will work best for the type of plays you do, I find at least. Academics is only good for players with high disciplene, playing time for guys who are 5*, location for those close to you, coaches prestige only works if you've got 4*+ I think, and I don't remember the last one. But that's how I think it usually works. Or so it did for me. Although most players I targeted don't mind location, coaches prestige or playing time. Funny that. LSU jumping USC is like the Volunteers jumping the Blue Raiders, yet we both are unbeaten. In my case, the Blue Raiders haven't had too many challenges this season (one game), whereas the Volunteers have had a few. It doesn't change it by much, just enough to modify it so that the Volunteers come out on top. That and ACC isn't the greatest division to get voted to the NTG.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Academics can work for players with low discipline, also. Location is the other, which is a good one to take when you're a crap team and a player is local.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Okay, I am in my 3rd year with Troy state. In my second year, my freshman QB won the Heisman with over 5000 yards passing and 2000 yards rushing and 115 total touchdowns on the year. I was able to pull 3 great offensive linemen during the in season recruiting and took the fastest Running back I could find so that I could run the option more. I make my living with the in season recruiting. I just go through the list and pick the guys that have me in there top 5 from the start and give them all my points and ignore the others. If I drop out of the top 5, then I take their points and redistribute. I have gotten 5 guys a year with the inseason recruiting. I went undefeated and ended up ranked 19 after my Bowl win over Marshall Then came offseason recruiting. i lost 10 seniors and had alot of recruiting to do. And no one would come to my school. I pulled a decent FS and DT and a decent MLB but no offensive players would come although I was only targeting linemen. I found a two star receiver that could run a 4.20 so I picked him up to be my number two reciever. Just started my new season and this year I made a monster schedule so I could try and win a national championship. I just played the first game and murdered #1 Ohio State 69-7 and the 7 came off a fumble recovery. My defense has been monster for 3 straight years now, mostley because of the safeties I picked up in year two that have 98 speed rating. They don't get beat deep and if they do, I can always catch up and break it up. Plus my LE who I always control is getting about 30 sacks per season. And yes, I am playing on All american. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Well, I found out that Madden doesn't come out till the 22nd of August, and therefore, I don't hafta rush through and build up my draft classes as fastly as I thought I had too. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 August 22 can't get here quick enough. I suppose this means I can play all what... 48+ games of my legend's NCAA career to really pad his resume for the NFL life.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 I just really got into the Hall of Fame mode for Madden. It'll be interesting to say the least. That's why I'm looking forward to Madden. If they were returning the Superstar mode or something like that, I'd prefer NCAA.
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Anybody else seeing the computer getting flagged a LOT for excessive celebration? Normally I just keep hitting the buttons to cycle through after the play is over to get to the play-calling screen, but after a couple times of getting stopped on key third-down plays, I've let it go and watched as the computer kept celebrating... to the point they got flagged, giving me an automatic first down. It has happened three or four times in the last few games alone. Kinda cheap. Then again, I've seen my guys doing ridiculous celebrating after touchdowns without me even calling for it. If I don't click through that, I get flagged, so I guess it's at least going both ways. Regardless, I don't remember that happening in past years, especially with the computer doing it and getting flagged.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 I turned down the celebration penalties to 0% because it was happening every time for me.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Rip, may be time to move up to Heisman. I'm getting to that point in my 2nd season. Now that I have some speed, AA is too easy. Well, the last year was against the cupcake ass Atlantic Sun division, so that QB had a beastly year. I don't know what happend with Ohio state. I was thinking it was going to be a hell of a game and they had like 8 turnover and couldn't move the ball at all. My greatest accomplishment was holding Marshall to 8 yards of total offense in the bowl game. Every year I have troy state, I play their easy scedule for 2 years to get some wins and some prestige points, then I up the scedule to try and get a National Championship. I don't expect to be able to walk all over the rest of my schedule like that.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Well, I'm about to win game 6 here against the Fighting Irish 58-28 (still have 3:07 left). If it wasn't for the 3 fumbles recovered and 3 INTS, I'd be probably be dead. Also if I couldn't defend so well against the run as well, it would be a hell of a lot closer. Now if this win doesn't get me my #1 ranking back, I'm gonna be so pissed it ain't funny.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 I picked up an Xbox 360 today and with that came the 360 version of this game. I played an exhibition game to get used to the new controls and was completely blown away with what the game brought to the table graphically. I know this has been beaten to death but it is truly amazing to see the detail that is in this game. I like how you can take snap shots of in-game action and transfer them to your computer (to bad I don't have a transfer kit) Gameplay wise, it was a mixed reviews for me. Sometimes the game plays great and fluid, other times it is sloppy and has it's share of bugs. I don't know how many 360 owners have this game, but if so, has anyone seen the glitch where a defender will tackle you when your five yards away? That one is annoying. Also, I can't run the ball at all. The playbooks are different from those that are in current gen versions. For example, Florida's spread flex formation is not in the 360 version, but the playbooks are still awesome. Overall, I am very happy with the game, but I think it is still a year away from ironing out all the bugs that are in this year's version. Come next year, it could be the best sports game on the market. Off topic, but the Madden 07 preview was amazing.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Still in Year 1 of the Georgia Tech dynasty, and I'm already in the process of changing over from All-American to Heisman. I was playing at Clemson (who's an A-), and I scored 23 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-7 halftime lead. Thinking "enough of this", I switched over to Heisman for the second half. When Reggie Ball went down in the 3rd, it was tempting to switch back, but I stuck it out and held on for a 29-22 victory. I'm thinking for the Miami game (next week, it will likely decide the division), I'm going to play the first half on Heisman, and then try to make a thrilling second-half comeback on All-American. I'm a little bit pissed off that I'm still not ranked considering I'm 5-2 with an A+ schedule, and the only undefeated team (in conference play) in the ACC, but that should all change with a victory next week. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Ugh... So I beat NCSU and then I get out of the game and find out my #2 ranking is in peril. The #3 team in the coaches ranking is gaining, and I'm close to losing my #1 poll in the media to the Volunteers. I'll scream if I get fucked out of another National Title game. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Well, I played Miami with the first half on Heisman just like I said I would. After the first quarter, I had a 3-0 lead, and I was thinking "Wow, Heisman's not so bad after all. Maybe I should finish the season like this." Then the Hurricanes lowered the boom on me. 6 turnovers (including 4 lost fumbles) led to 40 2nd-quarter points, and I found myself down 40-10 at halftime. I scored and scored quickly on every possession but one in the second half, but it just wasn't enough. I wound up losing 60-40. Now, my conference title hopes are looking very slim and god knows how long it will be until I'm actually ranked again. I'm no longer getting any votes in either poll, and I could easily end up in the Gator Bowl, even with a 7-1 conference record.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I'll admit I sim the blowouts and play the tough ones, so I go through seasons pretty quickly. But, thought I'd throw this out there as a "God the A.I. is out to get me" moment. My Hampden-Sydney Tigers (#1) were playing the USC Trojans (#2) in the national championship game. After a hardfought game that saw me come back from a 10 point deficit in the 4th quarter, the teams go to overtime tied at 31. First overtime, I hold USC (who couldn't run the ball all night) to no yards. They kick a field goal to take the lead. I come back and take a bad sack on 3rd down (where somehow their safety was able to run over my tackle AND running back to get to the QB). But, I was able to sneak a 44 yard field goal just inside the left upright to tie it back up. I start off the second overtime and get a quick 15 yard completion to put me at the 10. A run goes nowhere. On second down I hit a WR on a quick slant at the 3. He makes the catch but gets tackled and fumbles. Series over. USC takes over and plays first down conservatively with a run, but my blitzing LB hits him for a 4 yard loss. Then on second down they try to hit the TE on the seam between the LBs (playing man to man) and the safety (zone over the top in a Cover 2). However, the QB for once misreads the defense and doesn't see that my linebackeris actually in front of the TE. He makes a great over the shoulder interception to end the series. USC gets the ball to start the 3rd overtime, goes nowhere, and kicks a field goal. I take the ball and decide to try to end it quickly. I see USC's safeties creeping up and I know they're blitzing. That leaves my Heisman winning, All-America, All-everything wideout single covered by a woefully outmatched CB on a deep post. I pump fake to hold the DBs and let it go. Hits the receiver at the 3, but doesn't quite lead him, even though I precision passed it what I thought was well in front of him. The CB (who was about 5 yards behind the WR when I threw the ball) somehow becomes Carl Lewis, tackles the wideout from behind, STRIPS THE BALL FROM HIM, then somehow gets around my wideout and recovers the ball at the 1. Game over, I lose 34-31. TWO fumbles inside the 5 on potentially game-ending plays. Didn't even make Instant Classics. I'm so pissed I forget my promise to myself to take it easy today on my PS2 (which seems to be rebelling against this newfound usage after months of 360 induced neglect) and spend all day playing another season today. I roll through recruiting (tied with Texas for top class), set up an A+ schedule with 7 preseason ranked teams, and roll through a stacked ACC undefeated, while at the same time garnering seven 4 and 5* recruits (personal best). I then pistol whip Navy (who somehow got REALLY good) in the championship game 42-28. I lose a mediocre class (only a couple of 90+ guys, and they were juniors who declared early), take the top recruiting class, and somehow I'm still only ranked 3rd behind USC and Oklahoma. I've got 14 guys ranked in the 90s (including 2 WRs and my QB) and I'm making it a point to end #4 Ohio State's home winning streak in week 3. Oughta be fun.
