I like how the Yankees tied the game with a walk and took the lead yesterday with a hpb. The really funny thing is that Damon is on pace for .300 25 homeruns 106 rbi's, 44 sb and an ops of .900.

I made one post about the Mets not blowing their hot start by losing 4 out of 5 or 5 straight. Bruiser posted about 5 times just during yesterday's game that the season was almost over. There's a pretty big difference there, but I don't expect you to see it.

The point is, naiwf, is that it's easy to tell people to relax about a team's downright horrible play when your team of choice has such a comfortable lead in what looks to be a mediocre division.

 

Pondering this lack of Cubs offense further, Craig Wilson comes to mind. I read he's still available, even with Casey gone. The way I see it, Wilson could fill in at first to allow Walker to move back to second, so we'd never have to ponder the idea of a Hairston/Perez/BYNUM platoon at second. And the days the Cubs face lefties, he could play right, thus allow Jacque not to look like an absurd fool. The latter part could continue even after Lee returns. To me, this makes more sense than going out and getting a declining Jeff Conine or a one-dimensional (defensively) Tony Clark. But alas, that makes too much sense and the Cubs don't have a history of fleecing the Pittsburgh Pirates or anything.

From what I've heard, the candidates are Wilson, Millar, Conine, and Clark. Wilson, as I said, makes the most sense to me, so if I had to guess, they'll probably give up a decent prospect to get Millar or Clark.

My Local A Ball team (Delmarva Shorebirds) are going to be playing a game at Citizen's Bank Park up in Philly on May 15th vs the Lakewood BlueClaws..

Kinda odd.

I'm giving very serious consideration to attending that game, seeing how I do not have work or school, and tickets will be much less expensive than usual for those seats. It's a good opportunity really, especially if you have never been to the park.

A couple buddies & I went out to see the BlueClaws at their park last year (or possibly the year before, I forget). Unbeknownst to us, it was Jerry Lawler Night at the game. We were eating our food behind the seats along the 1st base side during the 1st inning, and I looked behind me as Lawler (in full King garb) & someone else (prob. a BlueClaws employee) were walking towards the autograph signing area.

Goin' to the Norfolk Tides vs. Columbus Clippers game tonight. I'm pretty excited, as it'll be my first time seeing Lastings Milledge and Jeff Keppinger in action. Hopefully, the experience will be worth the trip to the run-down stadium, whose only attendance these days seems to consist of annoying goobers.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Washington Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman will miss the entire season after the team decided Friday his right shoulder needs surgery.

Guzman has been out since early in spring training. The team put him on the disabled list March 27 and kept him in Florida for extended spring training, hoping he could build up the muscle around a tear in the shoulder and avoid surgery.

 

The player came to Washington this week, and the plan was for him to work out for general manager Jim Bowden and manager Frank Robinson. But because Guzman has been feeling too much pain while throwing, the Nationals determined he needs the operation, which will be performed Monday by Dr. Tim Kremchek.

 

Guzman is expected to be ready for spring training in 2007. He was not made available to reporters at RFK Stadium on Friday.

 

"Cristian worked extremely hard for two months around the clock to attempt to come back without surgery," Bowden said. "But without even getting on the field today, it was evident we had no choice but to wait until next year."

 

 

 

 

 

Guzman flirted with hitting below .200 in 2005 before finishing with a career-low average of .219. That was the first season in a $16.8 million, four-year contract he signed as a free agent.

 

Veteran shortstop Royce Clayton, who signed a minor league deal in the offseason, took over the starting job in spring training when Guzman was sidelined. Clayton entered Friday's game against Pittsburgh batting .229, with nearly as many strikeouts (19) as hits (22) in 96 at-bats.

 

That signing is sure turning out great for Washington.

I think it all comes down to a simple question, do you need the extra arm?

 

Duke is going to play for one of the 3 worst teams in MLB and would be lucky to win more than 14 games in any given year because his team is the drizzling shits. Peavy's team is only marginally better, but he has better K production. Beckett will probably win a lot of games because Boston is the best team of the three, but he's always a blister away from missing a month's worth of starts. Peavy's got the best chance at having a really low ERA, but Beckett and Duke will win more games combined and give you more strikeouts. If you don't need the extra arm, I'd say stick with Peavy since he's lower risk than Beckett.

I'd say that Duke is a better option than a few of your low end starters, and Beckett and Peavy is about a push if Beckett doesn't get hurt. I guess it all depends on which guy you'd dump to fit Duke into the rotation.

 

It's one of those deals where I don't think you can be faulted either way because there's a big risk to making it because of Beckett's injury history, since it's obvious Duke for Peavy straight up isn't a trade you would make. Go with your gut on this one and then hope for the best.

Does anybody need a broken down left handed LF? The asking price is a bucket of baseballs since that's all Cliff Floyd is worth right now.

 

Davies throws 8 straight out of the zone, walking in the tying run, so what does Floyd do? Take one to see if Davies can find the strike zone? Of course not, he takes a hack at the first pitch he sees and promptly grounds into an inning ending DP.

 

He is now hitting a robust .181 and that number is on a downward trend. Since he hit his last of 2 HRs this season he is now 5 for 34 with 1 RBI with 4 BB and 3 runs scored.

 

For comparison's sake Endy Chavez had a 4 hit game this week and over that same timeframe is 10-17 with HR, 2 RBI with a BB and 5 runs scored.

 

Yes, Endy Chavez has more productivity than Cliff Floyd over the last 2 weeks in half the ABs.

 

 

Braves lead 3-2 top 6. The Mets should have at least 4 runs if they could hit a fucking sac fly. Make it 4-2 since they inexplicably pitched to the # 8 hitter with a base open. I guess Braves unis are still like kryptonite for the Mets no matter how poorly they play the rest of the season.

Mark Loretta might have pulled off the best "bad play that worked out" of the year with that terrible bunt in the 6th that led to Ortiz knocking in three runs.

The Mets have come back from 4 down as it's 6-6 in the bottom of the 8th. Reyes is 5 for 5 in the game. On the downside they have failed on at least 5 chances to get runs in with a sac fly and couldn't push home Reyes who started off the inning with a leadoff triple. I haven't been this frustrated by a Mets game in quite some time.
