Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2006 Peja opted out. He wants to come to the Lakers, but I don't want him to come here. If that's true (and I haven't heard that rumor), the Lakers would have to arrange a sign and trade with the Pacers, and I don't think they have the pieces to make a deal work.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2006 Why don't the Lakers have any money again?
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2006 Brian Grant'll fuck you up. I didn't realize he was on the books for another year at $15 million and change. Lamar Odom always makes more than I think he does too, $12.5 mill this season.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2006 Well, when Brian Grant, Lamar Odom, and Kwame Brown eat up most of the salary cap by themselves, it doesn't leave much room for improvement. How does Mitch Kupchak keep his job? The roster moves he has made have been really sub-par.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2006 Good god. There is no way the Lakers with that roster should be near cap trouble. Seriously, at least the Knicks have like 5-6 former allstars.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 28, 2006 Well then I guess that must be the reason they're always trying to toss in Odom in trade rumors.
Guest Report post Posted June 28, 2006 Peja has said on occasion that he'd take the mid-level or low-level exception to play in LA (especially last summer, this came up a few times). That's why I said he wants to play here, he wants to be close to Vlade. He told everyone that would listen that he was going to opt out, I guess nobody thought he would walk from the cash when it came down to it.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2006 I can guarantee that Peja will not go to LA for the mid-level exception. In this free agent market he will likely get something close to a max deal and I think the Pacers will push hard to keep him. They knew from the start he would opt out when they dealt for him, but his agent is saying he wants to stay in Indiana. The LA thing was a rumor back when he was unhappy in Sacramento and wanted to play with Vlade. Well Vlade's retired now so that doesn't mean much.

I'm sure he's not getting near the max, but with the way GM's spend, you never know.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2006 Fuck that noise. I wouldn't mind seeing Peja back, but not for the max. I'd rather have someone who's not going to cost us a playoff series because of a "sore knee." Plus, he played with Mitch Richmond in Sacto, so he's got to be getting up there in age, too. UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 If the Lakers don't come out of this offseason with Sam Cassell or Marcus Banks, I'm going to cry.
Guest Report post Posted June 30, 2006 They are interested in Banks (and vice versa) from all accounts, and there was something out a few days ago about Kobe wanting Cassell.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Knowing Sam's history, I don't think he'd go to the Lakers for the midlevel exception. He's probably tyring to bid himself up. I think he ends back up with the Clippers.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 With Sam I think the Lakers got a good chance for making atleast the WCF.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Sam would be a monumental upgrade at the point for the Lakers, but I don't think I'd put them in the Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio class just yet.
Guest Report post Posted June 30, 2006 I want Banks, personally. He's a legit lockdown defender that can help Farmar work on that end of his game. Cassell's just a quick fix, and the Lakers don't need to be looking for that yet. The Lakers are going to have a hell of a time making the playoffs this year unless Odom steps up in a big way. Kobe can't do it all two years in a row. That said, if Kwame's development continues going along as it did at the end of the year, I don't know what could happen.
