AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 ...as of June 1st. Now, that in and of itself wouldn't be so bad (the trade-in prices suck at those places, and you'd have to be an idiot to bite for them unless you just want to get rid of them), but the entire inventory of it at my EB was "relocated" to "a store that has more room." Yet, we have room for music cds nobody is buying, and they're overflowing with crappy DVDs people aren't buying. So, get any PS1/N64 games you were considering picking up now before you're forced to order it online.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 that's okay, there are plenty of local trade-in franchises around that will get my money...most of them get my money above EB/Gamestop anyway.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 No more PS1 games? My bust a groove dreams At least I have FFT and Vagrant Story, and all N64 ought to be on Wii...
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 But will they still take 2600 games for 5 cents?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 Venk: Dunno. I've never seen them ever carry them around here. However, a Gamestop near Century III mall carries about a dozen NES copies of Top Gun, and a few other NES games nobody would ever pay to play. They actually had some good ones for a while, and they absolutely vanished.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 The Gamestop I used to work at was constantly having to shift-around inventory to make room for the massive shipments of Matrix 1 2 and 3 DVDs that were shipped to the store. We must've had 40-50 copies of each. Most of the PSX games with the exception of the Lunars, Suikodens, and various other RPGs would only get $.25-$2.00 trade-in credit anyways. Suikodens for 2 dollars? How much was the store selling it for used? I feel bad for anyone who traded Suikoden 1 or 2 into Gameshop for 2 dollars store credit. I sold Suikoden 1, Suikoden 2, plus the strategy guides for each one last year on ebay and I got 80-100 dollars for each one.

I meant the Suikodens and such were the only games to get a higher trade-in than the normal $.25-$2.00. Last I checked Suikoden pulled about $15 and sell for $39.99, and Suikoden II would fetch around $20 and sell for $49.99. Still a fucking ripoff for Part 2 which usually sells for around $80-120 on eBay.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted May 13, 2006 Did a topic really have to be created for this? I was rather upset when the EB/Gamestops in my old area moved all their DC/N64 games to the ghetto store a couple years ago, that I'd never drive to. And ordering them online is better, anyway. I was just stressing: So, get any PS1/N64 games you were considering picking up now before you're forced to order it online. And ordering them online is better, anyway. Not for dirt-cheap impulse buys that cost as much as they would be to ship. And if you're buying off EB/Gamestop's websites, the used games often cost more there than they would in-store. That's assuming they aren't back-ordered, which many good/high-demand titles usually are.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2006 I'd never dump anything there. I'm addicted to GameStop's DVD section, but their trade-in prices have ALWAYS been insulting. I recall my friend trying to trade in his NES with all the bells and whistles back when they were still under the Funcoland banner, and being offered $2 for the lot. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2006 Yet, they sell NES systems for more than an SNES or Genesis. Their used DVD prices aren't really that good either. I've gotten stuff for like 5-7 bucks at local places when EB/GS charges 10.

I've gotten stuff for like 5-7 bucks at local places when EB/GS charges 10. The only time I've bought a DVD at Eb was one time I found the first season of Buffy for $15 used, I thought it was a good deal at the time, although I'm certainly no expert on Buffy boxed set prices. I need to go and finish watching that, now that I think of it
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2006 The whole thing about trade ins, from what someone that worked at a Gamestop told me, he said it depended on how much of a certain game they had. So if they had WAY too many copies of Mario 64, they would give you CRAPPY credit it for it, so that they could stop you from trading it in.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2006 The trick for DVDs there is to look thoroughly. I don't mess with most of their DVDs, many of which go for little less than they can be had for new. But there are some definite advantages for the buyer with their pricing: 1) They only have one price for each title. This turns into a potential goldmine when it comes to SE and Criterion titles. Last summer, I bought Traffic and Silence of the Lambs CC for $9.99 each. Two weeks ago, I picked up the SE of Sin City with the comic for $9.99. 2) Low prices on WWE titles. I'm not sure what it is, but a lot of the WWE titles are insanely low. I found the Jake the Snake DVD in their $5.99 section and have heard of people finding the three-disc Undertaker set in that area, too. A couple months ago, I landed the three-disc Bret Hart set for $9.99 3) Frequent Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotions. They seemed to be running this all last fall and most of the winter; during this period, I must've tacked on 25-30 titles. This is best utilized with TV or movie boxsets. Eh, wasn't really being serious... back when EB was (they possibly still are like this, but have not been in my experience) obsessed with asking every person - customer or browser - to trade in their old games and/or buy used games instead of new and save, save, save, one clerk told me I could even give them Atari 2600 games (but for very low store credit - about 5 cents). He may have been joking.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted May 14, 2006 I cant stand eb games or software etc employees. The last time I went there the cashier was pimping to every customer that they should buy the additional warranty on the video games. When the fuck has a person ever had a problem with a video game not working that they need additional warranty.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2006 My local EB never pimps them except for hardware. Which is more considerate than annoying, especially for Sony HW. However, I'd like to actually see those terms and conditions. They sure as hell can't cover accidental damage, can they? That's the only thing I could see it for, and they swear it covers it. Guest NYankees Report post Posted May 14, 2006 The last time I went to software etc the guy was pimping additional warranty to every console video game being sold. These made the line go alot slower. I think the additional warranty was like an extra 5 dollars. I told him I have been playing video games for almost 20 years now and I have never had a problem with games not working. He acted shocked and suprised that nobody wanted to get the extra warranty.
Anya 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2006 Yeah, that stuff is so dumb. You can already take it back if it's broke when you first take it home. Who's ever heard of a CD just breaking down later? That last time I was in EB there was the most obnoxious of those employees I've ever seen. Just harassing me to buy some kind of card to get 10% of used games or something. He would not let it go. I kept telling him I hardly ever buy used games or even go in there and he wouldn't quit trying. That is one of the main reasons I never want to go in there. I hate that pressure. I always feel close to giving in.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2006 Truth be told Anya, selling that 10% card is what keeps you employed at a Gamestop or EB. You have a quote that you have to sell every week, and if you fail to meet your quote over a certain period of time, your employment is as good as gone. That or the manager will cut your hours to the point that you have no choice but to leave on your own. I hated having to whore them off as much as you hate having to hear about it, but its part of the job.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted May 14, 2006 Did you guys make commission off of it? All of my times in that store not once did I ever see a person sign up for it and most people quickly say no. I hate when they ask and I quickly say NO and the fucker still pimps it for the next 5 minutes.

The reason the salesman pressures you with the discount so aggressively is because he could lose his job if he doesn't sell enough discount cards.

Guest Smues Report post Posted May 14, 2006 When I get to the counter to buy something at a Gamestop store after they ask if that's everything I say "Yes, and no I don't want to join the discount club,I don't want to buy any warranties, I don't want to pre-order anything, and I don't want a strategy guide." They usually just kind of stare at me for a moment, shake their heads, and complete the sale. Doesn't work every time but it usually avoids them harassing me for 5 minutes. If not and I'm paying cash I just say forget it and buy my product somewhere else.
