Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 BREWERS WIN! BREWERS BEAT THE PHILLIES 8-7!!!! JENKINS~! Finally, this team has been battling back and winning games (something they couldn't do at all last year). They win the series against Philadelphia, with one more game tomorrow, going for the sweep. Guest Smues Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Mets and Phillies lose, it'd be really nice if the Braves could come back again and win this one. Plus that'd get them to .500 for the first time since like 6 games into the season which would be nice.

Guest Smues Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Fun stat of the day: Vilarreal is now 6-0 and I believe that ties him for the league lead in wins.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Crazy game in Arizona; Padres scored nine in the first, but the D-Backs scored eight in the sixth. Padres tacked on another three in the seventh and currently lead 14-10. Brian Giles has SEVEN RBIs.

Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 18, 2006 The White Sox series coming up should be interesting. I'm prepared to take shit for the whole "throw shit at Jacque Jones" thing as a damning indictment of why the Cubs have the worst fans in baseball and the White Sox fans are not only better fans, but better human beings, as if fans of a team that fields such models of character as Ozzie Guillen, Mark Buehrle, and A.J. Polish have any right to talk about basic integrity. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get a column about how the White Sox "play the game the right way," and their fans are "good honest hard-working folk" who "want to see the game played the right way" and "know the meaning of a hard day's work" and all those other tired Rust Belt cliches that were left over from a Pittsburgh Steelers fluff piece. naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Lima Time = another Mets loss. Cards lead 2-0 bottom 1, and the Mets have already made 2 boneheaded plays in the field. At least we're going backhome for the next 6 big games.

devo 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Beltran's not hitting for average, but he's definitely getting on base and pounding the ball. Just hit his tenth home run. 4-2 Cards in the top of the fourth.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Wood has an eight-pitch, two strikeout first inning, but the Nats have been teeing off on his fastballs since then. Uh oh. And dear god, the Cubs have signed Tony Womack to a minor league deal. Knowing this organization, that's where he won't stay long. He's got SPEED, after all! naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Here's my quick day game recap. . . Phillies Pen 2 Hamels 0 Robbed again. --- Wood has given up just 5 hits through 5 . . . but 3 are HRs, so he trails 4-0. --- Padilla got squeezed on pitches to Posada and instead of Texas leading 4-0 thru 7, it's now 4-2, but Jeter K'ed with men on 1st and 2nd ending the inning. --- Jose Lima is the drizzling shits. Send him back to the minors. --- Bannister is hurt again. Yay, more Lima and Jeremi Gonzalez!
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 To be fair, Hamels was responsible for the run that tied the game and gave up the two-run homer in the same inning. Ramon Ortiz looks to be on his way to his first win of the season, as he's been lights out against the Cubs. If that weren't embarrassing enough, Ortiz, who had 13 K's 17 BB's in 40 innings coming into the game, has 3 K's and no BB's through five innings. Only 64 pitches, too. It's okay, because the Cubs are aggressive! They've also pulled Wood after five. I know they want to be conservative, but he'd only thrown 71 pitches and had looked good in his last two innings. The second was his only real shakey one of the day. May I add Will Ohman sucks? He just gave up a homer to MARLON ANDERSON. With the wind blowing in. Ah well. The sooner this team gets back to reality, the less chance Dusty gets his extension.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 True, but there were 2 outs in the inning when Madson gave up the lead. As a Mets fan, I'm all for the Phillies Pen blowing as many games as possible, but I'm sure it's frustrating for young Cole to get the Mets era Tom Glavine treatment aka pitch really well and then watch the relief core piss away win after win. devo 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Yeah, nice job Randolph. Let Endy Chavez hit in the top of the ninth with men on instead of allowing one of a large group of superior hitters on the bench take his place. Great work.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Why is Abe Nunez batting for Carlos Ruiz (just have Nunez start throwing pies and be done with it)? How do you run through 80 % of your bench in a 3 AB stretch? Why is Ryan Madson pitching to Geoff Jenkins when you have three lefties in the pen? Why is Alex Gonzalez still in the major leagues? I understand the players have to perform, but Cholly is crapping the bed in this one.

I understand the players have to perform, but Cholly is crapping the bed in this one. Carrying both Gonzalez and Nunez on the roster is amazingly redundant. The Phils really should dump one and add another real hitter. Dellucci's the only guy on the bench who is any kind of threat, and he has a very pronounced platoon split. Manuel made some questionable decisions, but there whatever he did he was just gaining a handful of percentage points either way. The bench is awful.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Leave it to Juan Pierre to kill a three-run Cubs rally by grounding into a DP to end the inning. Jeez.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 Brewers sweep the Phillies today. What's funny is, in the preview for the first game of the series, ESPN said that the Phillies winning "was a virtual lock" or some such non-sense. F-U, ESPN.
