St. Gabe Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 For my 23rd Birthday, my fiance is planning a roadtrip for us to go to Niagara Falls. We Live in Northwest Indiana and what we want to do is Drive up through detroit, and across the lower part of Ontario through to Niagara Falls. Is there anything interesting to see on the way, its about an 8 hour drive, right around a little less that 500 miles. Any suggestions, or any websites other that Rand McNally have a good road trip planner?
St. Gabe Posted May 24, 2006 Author Report Posted May 24, 2006 no one has ever been to niagara falls????
Guest Felonies! Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 CanadianGuitarist and Redbaron live there, ask them. Just from looking at the map, it doesn't look like there's much along the way. I'm under the impression that from Windsor to Toronto, it's just suburbs and mid-sized cities, seeing as that's the only part of Canada that's inhabitable for normal people. Maybe you could go the other way around the lake and hit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but that's gonna be a longer trip.
Hawk 34 Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I made this trip a few years ago, it's really a boring drive and the main attraction only holds your interest for about 10 minutes until you realize that you spent all this money and time to see water flow.

We plan on driving to Toronto for a day too, its about 85 miles from St. Catharines...anything?
CanadianGuitarist Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Toronto is a great city. Niagara Falls, about 150 kilometres away, is a great tourist town, with lots of do. There's a tonne of history in Fort Erie/Ridgeway/Crystal Beach(though it's hicktown now) about 25 kilometres past that. The drive is boring as fuck, but Niagara Falls is great. Czech, I'm a touch scared you know to such precision where Baron and I live. He's in Muskoka for the summer, howveer.

CanadianChris Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Niagara Falls, Ontario is a nice place. My sister worked at a hotel on Clifton Hill for two years. Restaurants near the Falls are bloody expensive, though -- a restaurant downtown can cost 30% more than the exact same restaurant further away. Niagara Falls, New York, however, is a hole, and should be avoided at all costs.

Yeah, even if you can get to a restaurant across town in NF, Ont., you'll save some money. Baron, remember Al Mac's? Of course you do. There's all kinds of cool stuff to do in the Canadian falls.

Quite honestly, I haven't been to a city in western/upstate NY that I would ever want to return to. Some nice suburbs, but the cities themselves are awful.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 I stopped by on my way to Toronto back in '91. Bunch of water. Yay. Nice breeze, though.
bob_barron Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I've never been to Niagra Falls which is pretty sad considering all the times I've gone right by it.
CanadianGuitarist Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 That suggestion to drive through Cleveland and around Lake Erie wasn't all that bad. Detroit doesnt have much that interests me, and you'd be cutting through cottage country of Ontario, which can get boring and SLOOOOOOOOOOW. It can't be that long through the former, I used to date a Cincinnatian. It took 12 hours by bus from Niagara Falls to Cincy, and I'd say 3.5-4 of that was layovers/customs. And I deeply regret not seeing Cleveland more.
