I haven't followed Smackdown much but I know they "broke up and got fired" at Judgment Day and I heard that Joey Mercury's got drug problems, but what exactly is the reason for their de-push and now taking them off TV?

Melina has issues and caused incidents for the past few months, including the need for a late night wrestler's court and has developed a close relationship with Batista and of course, that lead to the Booker/Batista confrontation.

 

Nitro, basically goes along with Melina's actions. Mercury, was high on WWE's list but the drug problems soured those sentiments. He'll probably end up in ECW.

In last week's WON, it states that the fight stemmed from Batista's holier than thou attitude. Booker called him on it (IIRC Batista talked about Smackdown being inferior to RAW, which is ironic given Booker's original SD gimmick) and they got into it. Melina, who as mentioned supposedly has something going with Batista, or at least did, also got into a brawl with Sharmell at a house show that caused JBL to intervene.

 

I also believe it was in Australia that Melina pissed more than a few people off because she was called into the dreaded "Wrestler's Court". She's apparently been on the shitlist for some time.

I figured it was a work since I think that Booker T will beat Rey at GAB for the title and then with their fight which they've mentioned on WWE.com, they have a reason to have Batista fued with Booker and set up a match at Summerslam.
