iliketurtles Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 So Meltzer said the dude he was going to fight tested positive for steroids and now know one knows. Also, is this fight available for PPV? My friends and I want to watch it. Because Bas Rutten owns the world. Also, they should allow Rutten to cut promos about what he's going to do before the fight as well.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 It is available, WFA is the name of the event. Might as well make this the official thread I guess. Nobody really cared to since there hasn't been much interest. The card seems to be one-sided fights (Miller, Salaverry, Lyoto), and fights that should be one-sided (Ricco, Rampage). That's the appeal for me, seeing my favourites actually get good again. Rampage will probably be back with a force, but not Ricco. Fucking fatass.
Guest DRH 502 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Isn't Rampage fighting Matt Lindland???
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Yeap. That fight woulda been wayyyy one-sided in early 2003, maybe even in 2004. Rampage is like the worst possible style matchup, when his heart is in it anyway. Now, Lindland's toughness combined with Rampage's lack thereof (or so we think) makes this competitive.
Guest DRH 502 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Yeah Rampage "found" religion, somehow lost his mean streak.
iliketurtles Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 Bill Goldberg's going to be there???
Lt. Al Giardello Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Bill Goldberg's going to be there??? Yeah, as a commantator. It's rumored he will fight for WFA in the future. Supposely Wes Sims will replace Kimo.
Guest DRH 502 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 WES SIMZ~!!! That is fan fucking tastic. HE WILL DESTROY THIS WHATS HIS NAME FELLOW~!! HAMMER HOUZE 4 LYFEEEEEEEEE!~ Joking aside, i'll admitted i've only saw a few Bas fights from old school UFC...and i've just saw Sims a hand full of times so how do these dudes match up?? I'm aware of who Bas is by the way and his significance in the history of MMA, but i've heard some people say alot of Pancrase was worked and I never went out of my way to see any of it...
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Forget about Wes Sims, he couldn't get the paper work done in time. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Bas' replacement... EDIT: Provided he has a clean bill of health of course. They've already come to agreements.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 So Ricco as expected is a fatass, weighing 298. Pele isn't even fighting. Ah well.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Complete weigh-in results. Quinton Jackson - 204 vs. Matt Lindland - 200.5 Bas Rutten - 214 vs. Ruben Villareal - 260 Vernon White - 204 vs. Lyoto Machida - 205 Loudine Sincaid - 205.5 vs. Jason Miller - 202 Art Santore - 185.75 vs. Ivan Salaverry - 184 Ron Waterman - 286 vs. Ricco Rodriguez - 298 Harris Sarmiento - 155.5 vs. Rob McCullough - 154 Marvin Eastman - 206 vs. Jorge Olivera - 206 Martin Kampmann - 184 vs. Edwin Aguilar - 185.5 Adam Arredondo - 158 vs. Antonio McKee - 163.5
razazteca Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 So Ricco as expected is a fatass, weighing 298. So Ricco will be 25 stone when the bell rings?
Guest DRH 502 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I'm picking Lindland over Rampage via the decision. Machida over White via pummel, Miller over Sincaid via twistin rd 1, Salavery over Art via twisting rd 1, Rodriguez over Waterman decision in what should be an absolutely tremendous fight (sarcasm), the rest of the fights i'm not so sure about and i'm too lazy to check fight records to make educated guesses. You guys don't do picks contests around here?? Any particular reason? Would it be cool for me to start one for future events?
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Go ahead, if you're willing to organize stats and the like to see who is on top more power to you.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Holy shit, 298!!! That's fuckin' massive! Get your fat ass in shape Ricco, damn.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Well he trains out of MEH-HE-CO, where the roids are legal and plentiful.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Well doesn't he have to be clean if this is in America? Unless of course he was roiding during that picture.
Guest DRH 502 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I am gonna pass on doing a picks contest for this WFA as I could honestly care less about most of these fights...however I will start with the UFC 62 picks contest as soon as I see the final card posted (UFC.tv only has 2 matches listed)...I will explain the rules when I start the thread but most of you should know the drill (10 points possible, 5 for picking the correct winner, 3 for correct method, 2 for correct round)
iliketurtles Posted July 23, 2006 Author Report Posted July 23, 2006 Yeah so Rutten messed this guy up. No surprise.
Lei Tong Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 ...and proved how badly Frye fucking sucks.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Quinton Jackson won a split desicion in a very close fight vs. Lindland.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 As EHME said, the Rampage/Lindland fight was a VERY, VERY close fight. Great escapes by Quinton, Matt showed a lot of determination as well.
Hawkius Maximus Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 The concenus at Sherdog out of the event seems to be Lyoto is boring. From what I've read, White came in and nearly got knocked out so for the rest of the fight he stayed pretty inactive, and Lyoto never engaged either. He may have skills, but there was no way he would live up to the mythic hype that had generated around him inless he killed White in about two seconds. Even then somepeople would be calling him a letdown. Bas beating that guy by LEGKICKS is so awesome. It's almost like he just decided he wasn't even going to try anything, just lowkick him into submission, and it worked.
Guest DRH 502 Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 The only thing Lyoto has going for him is a win over Rich Franklin and a (split?) decision over a much smaller Hilo boy we all know and love.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 LINDLAND WUZ ROBBED~! HUZZAH~! *waits for Dramamara or whatever his name is to come in declaring Rampage/Lindland was the worse desicion ever*
Damaramu Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Well I didn't watch the PPV so I would have no idea.....and on top of that I'm not a Lindland fan. But I probably shouldn't argue with you because you'll just challenge me to a fight and then Thai kick me in the head or something.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 LINDLAND WUZ ROBBED~! HUZZAH~! *waits for Dramamara or whatever his name is to come in declaring Rampage/Lindland was the worse desicion ever* Personally, the fight should have been a draw, but I can understand a Jackson decision. Lindland won the first, Jackson the second, and the third was probably a draw, but Jackson did finish pretty strong with the elbows, busting Matt open. He also connected with a pretty stiff jab, but Matt did have the guillotine sunk in fairly tight. No qualms with the decision, though, great effort by both guys.
