Did Rampage look like the "old" Rampage??

I thought he did really well against Lindland, and actually scored more takedowns, which is amazing considering Lindland only got one takedown himself and he is an Olympic Silver medalist. Matt looked really great too, throwing high kicks, a backfist (?!) and several sub attempts that Rampage was able to power his way out of.

So I take it this fight is worth going out of my way to see?? I ask because in my mind I pictured it being either a very exciting fight, or a 3 round dry humpfest...and I expected the latter.

It's exciting, called a FOTY canidadate by some, though I believe there is too much clinching for that. Still a great fight, however.

I thought Lindland won, but it was so close you can't complain either way.

 

Lindland came close to finishing the fight more than Rampage did, there's no question about that, especially that RNC in the first round. But Rampage seemed to dominate over a longer period of time in the third round.

Overall the event was kinda meh.

 

Better than UFC 61, probably on par with 60. Both events featured a lot of inconsequential bouts with guys that probably won't make much noise in their division.

I'm not accusing you of this YPOV, but it seems like a lot of the people that are saying Rampage lost are the same ones who said he was washed up and finished, as if they don't wanna believe that he is still a good fighter.

lol well in a roundabout way I guess you are accusing me.

 

I am not saying he's finished, he showed tremendous heart in the fight. I will say he should have put Matt away all things considered. However while I think he may have lost a step or something similar, my opinion is not really biased, since I was rooting for him to win. I want him to be successful and make some noise again in the LHW division. Like I said, the fight was so close I could see it being a draw, but if you twisted my arm I would pick Lindland. I'm not really complaining about it, just saying that if I had to pick a winner it would not have been Rampage.

 

Lindland really impressed me in this fight. If anything I've been more critical of him than Rampage mainly because I'm a Rich Franklin fan, and I got tired of hearing people say Lindland was kicked out because Franklin was being protected. To be honest though, he looked really good. His grappling was great and he showed lots of character and tenacity. Rampage may not have looked as good as he normally does because Lindland did so well in grinding him down. He should be brought back to the UFC and I'd like to see him run through a bunch of MW and build him up for a Title shot before he gets too old. He impressed me a lot is what I'm trying to say. Will the UFC bring him back? Probably not.

 

Ivan Salaverry did really well, but again was countering the whole time. He seems to need an opponent to bring it to him, as he's been accused in the past of doing the same thing, which is what caused him to fight boring fights against Lindland and Nate. He should still be brought back to the UFC and given another chance though. He has brought it in fights where there wasn't a lot of pressure on him, like against Semenov.

 

Ricco loses 50 more lbs, he becomes the UFC HW Champ. Guaranteed. Will that happen? That's a whole different story. Great balance for being so fat and really good takedown defense. Standup was looking good too, which is easy against Waterman I guess.

Lindland looked pretty good against Rampage, I've got nothing against him...
