Yeah, the word bomb get's thrown around way too much these days. There's this insane view with some people that movies need to gross 200M+ to be a success. I think the only thing near to a 'bomb' on there is the Ant Bully.

Ricky Bobby opening at 47M is pretty tight though.

And I guess Pirates isn't going to bring down Titanic as seemed to be some of the speculation after it's opening weekend.

It was obvious Pirates wasn't topping Titanic when it's gross fell from its opening day. It should top out at 400 mil, which is pretty impressive

I am amazed that anyone thought Dead Man's Chest could get anywhere near Titanic's 600 million. That would be like asking it to double the results of the first film, which made about 305 million domestic. There have been far better movies than POTC that haven't even grossed what Shrek 2 did, much less Titanic.

"The Descent" did better than I thought it would. Good to see, as it's fucking great, and should be seen now.

Production on Vince alone was $135,000,000. Not to mention HUGE delays and major advertising.

BOMB BOMB BOMB BOMB

Seriously? Why the fuck are they making movies so damn expensive these days?

I still think it's wierd to judge movies as 'bombs' based on their budgets. I mean 45 million after it's second weekend is damn good, especially for a rated R movie, but since that budget's so high, it doesn't look so hot.

Then there was the rediculousness of people throwing the word 'bomb' around for Superman Returns, a movie that's made over 320 million worldwide (without even opening yet in a lot of big markets), because it had an outrageous budget.

Superman Returns was put in an almost impossible position. With any sort of sane budget it would be considered a big hit, but it needed to do massive POTC, Star Wars, or LOTR kind of business to turn a profit. While I thought it was pretty good it really didn't offer anything new, just the old "Superman stops Lex Luthor's plan for world domination" plot that we've seen before.
