Guest Smues Report post Posted August 12, 2006 I haven't checked, but I have to think the 43 players combined used by the Reds and Phillies last night is a new MLB record. That Pirates/Astros 18 inning game from May this season used I think 46 players.

mike546 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2006 Whats the record for most starts by a pitcher in a season without going more than 6 innings? I'm happy with how Wright is pitching latley, i'm just wondering if hes closing in on some wacky record or something.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2006 The Astros made a roster move to make a spot for tonite's starting pitcher Jason Hirsh. Preston Wilson has been designated for assignment. He's been largely unimpressive this season, especially in regards to homerun production. He's only hit 9 homeruns and driven in 55. He strikes out alot and hits the ball on the ground waaaaay more than I had anticipated. I swear, he could ground into a double play with 2 outs and nobody on. I'm sure there's some team somewhere that'll pick him up.

devo 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Well, John Maine's scorless inning streak has come to an end at twenty-six and two thirds, thanks to a solo home run from Nick Johnson. That was the first hit Maine had given up on the night, and is only the second Nationals baserunner through four innings. Another great start so far.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Mark Prior back to the DL. He won't even pick up a baseball for three weeks, which means I'd be shocked if we see him again this season.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 The Twins have forgotten how to hit. They got shut out by the Jays again tonight and have only scored 1 run in the first 3 games of the series. Jays already have more wins in the first 3 games of this 10 game road trip than they did on the 10 gamer a few weeks ago to Seattle, Oakland, and New York. Of course, it's probably too late for it to mean anything, and I kind of wanted the Twins to win the Wild Card now that the Jays are probably out of it. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 There shall be no flowing game diatrabe from vivalaultra this evening, I'm afraid.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Aha! You are wrong, my young Chong. The Astros did lose, but I thought Jason Hirsh looked promising. He did really well to work out of a bases loaded 1-out jam with Piazza and Adrian Gonzales up. However, it was obvious that the next inning he was gassed. Luke Scott is still impressive. Lance "Big Puma" Berkman hit another homerun. I still imagine the Astros will prevail tomorrow and then it's the Cubs so they'll probably start another 4-game winning streak tomorrow. And that, my friends, is the condensed version of Vivalaultra's patented "Flowing Game Diatribe." ...boomshakalaka.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Damn it Astros, stop winning. Nobody likes you. Okay, that's quite obviously untrue. Leave me and my irrational hate for the Astros alone. Also, wtf Cardinals, it's the PIRATES. At least Pujols is doing his part, he's got 3 doubles and a homer in 2 games.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Damn it Astros, stop winning. Nobody likes you. Okay, that's quite obviously untrue. Leave me and my irrational hate for the Astros alone. Also, wtf Cardinals, it's the PIRATES. At least Pujols is doing his part, he's got 3 doubles and a homer in 2 games. It certainly seems like the vast majority of people around here hate the Astros anyway. It's just that viva's taken to pimping them whenever possible. I still remember last year's playoffs when everyone was bitching and moaning about the Astros beating the Braves and Cardinals. About 90% of the board complained about the lack of hitting, Clemens, even the damn stadium. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if they get the WC again. The most talented pitching staff of the teams in the race (for the most part) and just enough hitting to get them through (assuming Berkman, Huff, and Scott don't regress). Then it can all start again.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 I just don't get the irrational Astros' hate. I get the impression that most people dislike Clemens for whatever reason, but...he's just one guy. The past 10 years of so, the Astros have been one of the more successful franchises in baseball. They've never won the World Series, but, still, they've always been competitive. They're the kind of team a guy can really get behind, and I'm not ashamed to pimp them outrageously.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Yankees are down 3-0 after 4, in danger of losing 2 out of 3 to the Angels after losing 2 of 3 to the White Sox. I know people are ragging on the Red Sox, and rightfully so, but the Yankees aren't exactly giving them the deathblow *EDIT* I don't mind the Astros. I usually root for them in the NL Playoffs (unless the Mets are around and there's a Subway chance). Clemens and Pettitte are two of my favorite pitchers, Berkman is great, and I have a lot of respect for Biggio. I'm not really a fan of their (mis)management, but oh well. And really, they probably have as good a chance as anyone at the WC, so you can't blame an Astros fan for pimping them.

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 I'd just like to buy the world a Coke and make the Astros "America's Team". There could be an Astro for every country/ethnic group and they could combine and form a superhero, like Captain Planet. And they'd be against pollution. 1-0 'Stros, bottom of the second. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Studies show that Astros' fans are happier and better adjusted in their personal lives and make 10% more annual income than non-Astros' fans. Astros' fans also get more sex. I read it in a magazine so it has to be true.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 The Phillies' broadcast showed a statistic about how complete games have declined since 1960. Funny how they don't extend that statistic to show how few complete games pitchers of THAT era pitched in comparison to say the 1910s. Robin Roberts to his credit though has almost never been critical of the changes in the game.

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 Hey Four of the Six Astros minor league teams are in first place. Viva you're the Astros rube here. What's Jeff Bagwell doing these days. He still upset with Drayton McClaine.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 I don't know. I guess the irrational hate mostly extends from the rivarly thing. Also, the only Astros players I can think of that I like are Oswalt, Ausmus, and Bagwell(who isn't playing and will probably be retiring soon). The rest seem like nice enough guys, but are pretty bland for the most part. Eh, not a very good reason I guess, but whatever. Also, the Cards are on the verge of getting swept by the Pirates. I guess we aren't playing baseball the right way....what way is that, exactly? The not losing way? Aren't the Astros 2 games under .500? (for now) One last thing, fuck Joe Randa. That guy always turns into a bastard whenever he plays the Cardinals, it seems like.
devo 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 After Randa performed spectacularly against the Mets in their opening series with the Reds last year, he became the topic of an inside joke between my dad and I. Now, when judging the merits of a baseball player, we bandy about such adjectives as "Randastic" or "Randacular" or proclaim that "he's no Joe Randa". Also, my hatred of the Astros mainly comes from the fact that they play in the worst place ever built for the express purpose of playing baseball.
