EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 It's ridiculous to think Boston is finished. Their pitching looked bad...against the best offense in baseball. They're still only four back in the wild card.

Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Oh it's raining. Hellfire and brimstone. But seriously, I don't think Boston's done yet, either. If things keep looking this way for another 2 weeks, then it's over.
mike546 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Another victim in this series, Craig Hansen has been demoted to Pawtucket. edit: via YES, everyone in the Yanks bullpen is available beside Mo. How the fuck can they pitch Ron Villone today? Hes pitched 4 out of 5 days, with two 40+ pitch appearnces, one 30+ pitch appearance, and two 20+ appearances in that span!! Torre likes pitching him everyday. He is the 2006 version of the 2004 version of Paul Quantril.
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Or 2005's Tanyon Sturtze. Only, Villone has been good.
mike546 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 I knew I wasn't wrong when I said Manny hadn't gotten out this entire series. Hes been on base SEVENTEEN out of twenty plate appearances. wow. edit: A-Rod! He MUST be relaxed after winning the first four games.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 It's ridiculous to think Boston is finished. Their pitching looked bad...against the best offense in baseball. They're still only four back in the wild card. It hasn't just been this series. Since the ASB the pitching has: - Given up 207 earned runs, one fewer than Kansas City and 229 total, most in the league - Posted a 5.59 ERA, worst in the AL - Posted a .303 BAA, second worst to Tampa Bay - Posted an .833 OPS. Again, second worst to Tampa Bay - 628 total bases, worst in the AL - A 1.59 WHIP, second worst to Tampa once again Wakefield MAY help when he comes back and Wells may as well, but they still have to deal with Beckett's horrible starts and a rookie pitcher that has much too much pressure on him right now. Even if they do make the playoffs, Jon Lester starting a playoff game is just asking for trouble.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Lost in all the frenzy regarding Boston's recent slumps, and whether or not Theo or Tito should be worried, is the security of the pitching coach(es). If you look at the performance of the staff the past two years, not only has it been wretched, but nearly every one of their acquired pitchers has been far worse in Boston than they have been anywhere else in their careers. At some point, you have to look past the scouting department and usage patterns and figure out why the same trends are creeping up every pitcher (Beckett, Clement, Tavarez, Seanez, etc.). Even their rookies (except Papelbon) have had peripheral numbers far different than those posted in the minors. Someone somewhere needs to explain what's happening to these pitchers when they get to Boston.
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Dotel gets yanked quickly after giving up a hit, so Myers can face Papi.
mike546 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 This weekend has gone way too good. I have a terrible feeling Ortiz is putting one in the RF seats against Myers.
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Either that, or the Yankees will have won games in just about every way possible.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Is there a higher paying job in sports than the "left handed relief specialist"?
mike546 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Proctor deserves a fucking raise for the job he's done in this series.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Is there a place I can get a bionic arm and shoulder installed like Proctor has?
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 21, 2006 While a work horse, it's not like Proctor's been a gem all year.
mike546 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 While a work horse, it's not like Proctor's been a gem all year. Gimmie a fucking break. A reliever who gives you 90+ innings by August, goes out there everyday, with a mid 3 ERA, who has 10 less hits than innings pitched, with a great K to walk ratio, and throws 95+ MPH, and hes not a gem!?!? Hes been a fucking savior.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 I'd be pissed if I was Wells too.
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Yes, he's pitched an ungodly amount if innings. And hasn't been terrible. I think my problem with him was the way he pitched earlier this year. he was NOT so good. But yes, the MORE this guy has pitched, the better he's been. KingPK 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 I wouldn't rely on him in October since all this wear has GOT to catch up with him at some point. Scoring on a wild pitch....I think they've given up runs in every way imaginable in this series.
