Guest Brian Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Chris Snelling took six balls. 3-0 and then two balls low and outside and one that was a high late-breaking ball, and all three were called late. That was bullshit.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Great deal for the Phils. Neither Baldwin or Barb are really on my radar at this point. Moyer's a low risk pick up. Plus, he's a local product.

devo 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Orlando Hernandez has a terrific start (6 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 0 R) after getting shellacked his last time out. He even got his first career stolen base (a swipe of third!) today.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 OMG the Neifster will be playing in the Postseason!!! He gets to showcase his skillzzz to a national audience. That's the real kicker. I'm just happy they found someone to take his contract. It was bad enough they re-signed him, but knowing he was going to be here for a year AFTER this one was almost too much to take. Truth be told, he's a completely serviceable swingman. The problem is Dusty has insisted on making him more of a starter than a role player. I suspect Leyland will actually utilize Neifi's strong suit.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I'm guessing the Polanco injury necessitated the trade for Neifi. Good pickup for them. As much shit as he gets he's still a decent contributor. And it would thrill me to no end to see Neifi Perez get a sniff at a ring before the Cubs do
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Well, now the Tigers have found the missing link they needed to ensure a spot in the Postseason. Hell, now that they have Neifi, I bet they'll win it all. He can play 2nd and short!!

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I'm guessing the Polanco injury necessitated the trade for Neifi. Good pickup for them. As much shit as he gets he's still a decent contributor. How is it a good pick up for them? Surely he couldn't have been the only guy capable of playing second base that was available. If the Tigers are picking up the second year of his contract, then Jim Hendry may have just pulled a smaller scale Aramis and Kenny for Bobby Hill and Jose Hernandez. And if we wanted to make connections that aren't really there, we could say the Tigers began to blow their 6-0 lead shortly after the announcement of the deal was made. I think it's a good pickup because Polanco might be out for the rest of the year and they don't really have another option at 2B. They didn't give up much for him. I know that Cubbie fans hate Neifi, but he's a capable fill-in for the Tigers, and when Polanco comes back he goes to a utility role.

Perez will get a few starts, but he's in Detroit so Pudge doesn't have to play 2B again (lol). But really, it gives Leyland more options. Once Polanco comes back, Ramon Santiago will be sent down (if he hasn't been already) and Perez will be used as a pinch-runner mainly b/c the Tigers don't have much speed in their lineup. Bored 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I bet Dusty is upset that the Cubs didn't trade for Infante. A Perez/Infante is platoon at 2nd is the ultimate offensive chasm. Can someone tell the Mariners they aren't playing the A's for over a month. It's okay for you guys to win games again. Angels tie it up 2-2 in the 8th, going for the four game sweep and a 11th straight loss for Seattle. Edit: Annnnd the Angels win it in the 9th. Fuck.

I guess I'm just surprised anyone would not just take Neifi, but take him knowing he's still owed another year of salary beyond 2006. Two and a half million isn't a horrible amount of money, but it's too much for a guy who's best reserved for the bench. He and Infante aren't too different offensively and Perez doesn't boast the defensive range he once did. It seems like there had to have been better (and probably cheaper) options out there. For all the praise their GM has been getting, he still makes a lot of questionable moves.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 the tigers are in trouble. in more ways than one. as hard as it is to say, the bubble may be about burst. everyone peaked so early that their fall now is painful. swept by the rangers? blowing a 6 run lead? oh lord. there's not a single pitcher on the staff right, aside of maybe zumaya, that makes me feel comfortable. verlander has sort of hit a wall. stamina-wise. and everyone is right, there had to have been a better alternative than neifi. oh well, maybe leland can bring the best out of him. devo 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 Detroit's fate is still definitely in their own hands, especially considering that they have four-game series with both the White Sox and Twins before the season ends. The series with the Sox starts tomorrow, by the way. I think we'll have a much better idea of what the Tigers' situation is on Thursday night than we do now. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 This is a sign of how great the Tigers are this season. EVERY team goes through at least one stretch where their fanbase begins to wonder if they'll ever win again. The Tigers have been amazing all season; they were bound to dropoff at some point. That doesn't mean they won't get things rolling again.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 The Astros beat the Brewers behind Roger Clemens, and, as I predicted, scored three runs. Tomorrow begins a crucial series with the Reds. I hope the 'Stros can take 2 outta 3. I'm pretty sure they can get the final game of the set with Roy Oswalt facing that one guy with the weird last name that hasn't made many starts this year...that Chris Mchaxawaxay fellow. In a minor move that might become interesting, the Astros DFA'd Eric Munson. Munson was only hitting .204, but was doing a respectable job as the backup catcher. They called up former Pirates' draft pick J.R. House. House was batting .422 in AAA this season, but was mostly playing first base. From what I heard he was a butcher at catcher, so it'll be interesting to see how he does catching in the majors.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 Top Ten Droughts 1. Chicago Cubs (98 years) 2. Cleveland Indians (58 years) 3. San Francisco Giants (49 years) 4. Houston Astros (44 years) 5. San Diego Padres (37 years) 6. Milwaukee Brewers (36 years) 7. Texas Rangers (34 years) 8. Seattle Mariners (29 years) 9. Pittsburgh Pirates (27 years) 10. Philadelphia Phillies (26 years) Teams are counted either from their last World Series, their last movement, or their inception. The Washington Nationals have been in existance since 1969 without a title, but the Washington fans have only had to live with that since 2005. The CITY of Washington however has gone 82 years without a world championship. Honorable mention to Montreal who went 35 years without a title before losing the team.
