snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2008 After watching it a couple more times, I think last Saturday's fight was the best I've seen since Corrales-Castillo 1, nearly three years ago.
Guest Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Jose Luis Castillo had an eliminator at 140 which was going to take place on the card of Peter/Maskaev. Guess what? He didn't make weight. Some things change, others always stay the same.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Castillo will never cease to disappoint. I'm picking Peter by first round ko in Cancun.
Guest Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I think Peter will win when Maskaev doesn't answer the bell in the 8th. Even though that's my pick, it's hard to see it lasting that long.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I initially slightly favored Oleg but too many injuries and too much time has killed any momentum he might have had coming in. Peter by late stoppage though I wouldn't be surprised if he gets roughed up a little himself; should still be an interesting but sloppy fight if Oleg shows up with any kind of motivation. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 I don't feel as comfortable with my pick now that Teddy Atlas has made the same prediction.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Well shit, I might have to go with Oleg again. I can't remember the last time Atlas predicted anything right, even something as obvious as Wlad/Sultan. This past year you could have made a killing betting on the exact opposite of everything Atlas has predicted.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Sounds like the "new" John Ruiz is just the same old worthless sack of shit.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 I can't believe one of those judges actually gave the fight to Diaz...nevermind it was a Don King promotion. Oleg was conviningly outboxing Peter and appearing to hurt him before getting overwhelmed. Oleg is still strong and can take a shot better these days but he has nothing left physically and should hang them up. Peter may have won but he keeps looking lazier and more out of shape with each fight. Hopefully, Vitali will step down and Wlad can easily unify against this slob. Haye was fucking impressive tonight, the guy has had some shaky moments in the past but hopefully he can step up and bring some excitement to the heavies. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 How many of you agree that Pacquiao will stop Marquez this time around?
Guest Report post Posted March 12, 2008 *raises hand* Early, at that.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I think it'll be around the tenth, but I rarely get the rounds right lately.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 The over-hyping of Peter is getting ridiculous. The guy has knockout power so he will always have a punchers chance, but how does that make him much different then Lamon Brewster? Because the heavyweight division is not swirling with talent, it will allow a lot of merely "ok" fighters stay ranked. It's not their fault, it's just that they are the best of what's out there currently. If Vitali does step down and lets Wlad/Peter happen first, I think Wlad will break down and frustrate Peter for five rounds or so, resulting in Peter getting frustrated which will then have him reverting back to his "if I swing wildly enough, maybe I will connect" style of fighter. If Oleg showed us anything, a boxer with power can punch Peter in the face at will.
Guest Report post Posted March 13, 2008 My view is, Peter sucks. That said, Peter sucks in a way that he can still knock you out at any time. He's not skilled in the least, but he has a good chance of knocking out anyone. He's improved his ability to keep punches straight, so I think he could knock out Wlad. Would he? No.
Guest Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Mikkel Kessler is likely going to fight Edison Miranda on May 24th. Televised on Showtime. Really looking forward to that one. Should be a war, but I think Kessler will take it.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 I think I'm ready to admit Marquez is a tough son of a bitch.
Guest Report post Posted March 16, 2008 I thought Pacquiao won by a point. Marquez was beginning to show wear by the end, even shots that weren't hitting him head on looked to shake him a bit.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 I had Pacquiao by a point, too. For Marquez to go the full 24 rounds with Pac and make it that close is very respectable. Abner Mares was awesome.
Guest Report post Posted March 16, 2008 Abner Mares was great. I watched the card at a pizza place just down the block. Missed David Diaz's win, but caught the rest. Luevano was good, but I think he can be touched and put to the canvas for a 10 count by much better fighters. Can't say whether or not he's the goods. As far as Pac goes, he has one of the better chins I've seen. Marquez was giving him shots that would rock other guys worlds and Pacquiao was just eating them with a grin on his face. Save one that wobbled him a bit, but he recovered very quickly. Don't really want to see a 3rd fight between these two, in all fairness. Would like Pacquiao to fight Valero or fat boy Diaz at 135. Think he would mess up Juan somethin' good. As far as Marquez goes, I'd like to see him fight Valero too. But if he can't do that, a match against Guzman sounds fine, albeit a little boring. Other than that, 130 suddenly goes from 2nd best weight class to a wasteland. If only Soto had beaten Guzman... I saw that Shane Mosley is going to fight Zab Judah. If that wasn't bad enough, Jorge Barrios is supposed to be fighting Rocky Juarez on the under. At least Ponce de Leon is scheduled to fight, or I'd have no interest in the card whatsoever. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 Fightnews says that Pac's next fight will probably be against David Diaz, in June.
Ced 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 I thought Diaz looked sloppy in his title defense and ate alot of unnecessary punches from Montano. He's going to get floored if he shows that sort of performance against Pacquiao, who unlike Montano has dangerous power behind his punches.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 Andy Lee on FNF tomorrow night.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 Worst stoppage I've ever seen.
Guest Report post Posted March 22, 2008 Forgot all about the fight. What happened?
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 They traded power shots for the first 6 rounds with Lee building a 3-4 point lead, and scoring a knockdown in the first. But Vera, a tough son of a bitch, came on huge in the seventh. Lee was bleeding all over the place and wobbled a few times. A Vera punch wobbled him again but Lee came back to land a pnch of his own that seemed to stun Vera. It was right after Lee landed a punch to Vera's jaw that the ref stepped in. Lee was tkod with the most recent punch landed being his own. Yeah, he was hurt, yeah he was bleeding, but the guy's a BIG puncher and he clearly wasn't done if he was still landing return punches. Like Tommy Hearns before him, Lee has seemingly not been taught the skill of holding by Manny Steward.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 Damn, another hyped prospect falls. Yeah, Lee was looking a litttle like Hearns did against big punchers. Wlad is the only Steward fighter that learned how to hold, though not before getting stopped by Brewster.

Guest Report post Posted March 23, 2008 What a great fight that was. Stoppage is up for debate, but I think it was correct. Now let's see Casamayor-Campbell II to get an Undisputed Champion. Can't believe that Casamayor got up after being KNOCKED OUT OF THE RING. EDIT: Well, Casamayor said that he doesn't want to fight Campbell. That was before Campbell jumped into the ring and got into a shoving match with Casamayor.
