Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 Reports out of my city is that there is a 90% that GSP wont compete against Matt Hughes in September. I'm livid.
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 I don't blame him...Hughes is in the best shape of his life, i'd be scared shitless too.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 I don't blame him...Hughes is in the best shape of his life, i'd be scared shitless too. Please... You honestly believe that? GSP would want Hughes to be in the best shape of his career, just so he can beat him at his best.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 So then why wouldn't he be fighting? Is he hurt? Yeah that's the report. I'm really hungover so please forgive me for not adding that in.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 Oh well if he's hurt then we can just postpone it. Have Hughes fight someone........I guess he can't fight Diego b/c it's to0 soon. Damn...who would fight on short notice? GSP should be guranteed the shot whenever he's healthy right? So does it have to be in September? He can wait till he's healthy can't he? I know we can't wait for the fight.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 If these reports are true, I hope we see BJ Penn Vs. Matt Hughes 2.
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 Carlito, did you really think I was serious? I mean, Really? I've stated numerous times that although i'm a Hughes fanboy, if anyone will beat Hughes GSP has the best chance... Fuck honestly as much as I like Hughes, it'd bring a smile to my face to see GSP get the belt after all the asskicking and begging he has done. The kid deserves it

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 It's bullshit, GSP just updated his blog 3 days ago on the UFC website and looked fine cornering Goulet @ UFN. EDIT: Apparently not bullshit but GSP was saying in Vegas that he'll be fighting.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 It's bullshit, GSP just updated his blog 3 days ago on the UFC website and looked fine cornering Goulet @ UFN. EDIT: Apparently not bullshit but GSP was saying in Vegas that he'll be fighting. From sherdog.com Georges St. Pierre (Pictures) should know by Wednesday evening if his showdown with UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes (Pictures) is still on, the Canadian's manager told Sherdog.com Saturday. St. Pierre pulled his groin on August 3 and has been limited in training for September 23's title fight, a bout marking his second shot at Hughes' belt. On August 10 St. Pierre's camp notified the UFC about the injury, which a physiotherapist in Montreal had initially told the powerful 170-pounder he'd need four weeks to fully recover from. St. Pierre has since flown out to Las Vegas, where he helped corner Jonathan Goulet (Pictures) during Thursday's UFC Fight Night, to work with a specialist that has helped Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods. Patry indicated St. Pierre is 95 percent and has continued to work on his cardio and boxing during the down period. The injury has made grappling difficult, which is problematic considering it is Hughes' strength. The decision on St. Pierre's participation will come after "Rush" pushes himself hard Wednesday evening. Patry said he believes the fight will happen and St. Pierre will return to Montreal on Sept. 25 with the belt around his waist. In the event that St. Pierre cannot fight, a member of the champion's camp told Sherdog.com, the UFC has started to work on back-up plans, including a rematch between Hughes and B.J. Penn (Pictures). Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 If GSP can't make the fight, give it to Diego if he's medically cleared to fight. The man just won what was pretty much a #1 contenders fight. Anyone else getting that title shot beyond GSP and Diego is pretty much bullshit. UFC wouldn't have enough time to shill it, but you can bet your ass off Diego would bust his ass to get in shape for it.
Adam 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 If they put Diego in GSP's place, they'd need another major bout on the card. Hughes-Diego wouldn't be enough of a draw, IMO. Although if this UFN fight was as good as everyone is saying, maybe he would draw a good buyrate.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I really don't think Diego would be prepared this quickly for a shot. I don't want GSP to fight Hughes, if he isn't 100%.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 If GSP can't fight, and Diego can't step up, then there shouldn't be a title fight if you ask me. Handing someone else a shot, basicly robbing GSP of his oppertunity is a complete pile of BS. GSP and Diego have EARNED their title shots. Just giving it to someone else is crap. BJ Penn's fought what? Once since he came back? He needs to win a fight before he gets a title shot. I mean...if someone can just step up and get a shot, what the hell have GSP and Diego been fighting for? A possible, maybe, if-we-feel-like-it shot?
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 It should be BJ Penn I mean Christ, dude lost a split decision and should get a rematch anyway so hopefully we shall see...
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Fuck that shit. I'll take a cancellation of the main event entirely or Hughes fighting some can before I see Doughboy get a shot above GSP. For all intensive purposes BJ is no longer the champion, seeing as how he lost his belt to GSP and all.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Considering BJ Penn had his title stripped and has already beaten Matt Hughes, that warrants a title shot.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 BJ said in the interviews leading up to the GSP fight that he considered it his first title defense. Well, he lost the title and therefore should be back to square one. GSP, Diego and Karo at this point should be getting a shot before him, seeing as how BJ seems content to allow himself to fight unknown (to most fans) Japanese dudes on UFN's. If getting himself back into contention was any issue BJ would've either fought by now or at least had a fight lined up.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 There has to be a title fight on the next show right? If Hughes doesn't have someone to defend against then what do we do? Ace won't be ready and they haven't even decided on a challenger yet. The buyrate wouldn't be that great if they put Sylvia on it and of course Chuck couldn't defend. Should they try to make the Lightweight title the main event and stack the card with other good undercard bouts?
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 BJ will get his spot. Mark my words. BJ deserves it too...since you know..he has actually beaten Matt Hughes. It doesn't matter who fights Hughes anyway, because GSP is the only dude I see having a shot, and personally i'm praying they get to fight just so everyone will finally shut the fuck up about how GSP coulda won the first fight. Its do or die time. But if he doesn't fight, its not the end of the world...he is a young dude he has many years ahead of him.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I don't want GSP to fight Hughes, because I want no excuses. I want GSP to be 100%.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 The problem with just throwing someone else in there with Hughes is that it fucks up his current contenders. The last situation with Karo was completely different. While GSP was a top contender, he wasn't THEE #1 guy for the title shot just yet. They hadn't decided that and gave Karo his shot. When Karo had to pull out, they didn't have anything right there to fix it. This time, GSP has his shot which he's earned more then Karo ever did his, and if GSP can't fight, then Diego *JUST* won a #1 Contenders fight. HE should be next in line if he can fight medically. Diego's not the type of person who'd back down either, you give him that shot and he'd show up ready to brawl. If he can't, you either do a Non-title fight, or you put Hughes in some special attraction fight. BJ Penn hopping over both GSP and Diego to get an unwarrented title fight is such BS, and will shunt both GSP and Diego back down the rankings for no apparent reason. Look at Karo, when he came back from injury he had to re-earn his #1 contendership status despite ALREADY earning it previously. UFC doesn't have a great track record with that shit. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I don't want GSP to fight Hughes, because I want no excuses. I want GSP to be 100%. GSP at 50% could still beat Hughes. He's twice as better as he was 2 years ago and 2 years ago still gave Hughes the most trouble he's been in since losing to Penn (I don't count vs Trigg II as it stemmed from the low blow.) Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Yeah. Hughes is just lucky it isn't Dennis Hallman getting the shot.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 Ya know...It is kinda funny that UFC's never done Hallman/Hughes III for the title. I mean, if you wanna go by whose beaten Hughes before, Hallman's the most deserving person in the world. He beat Hughes *TWICE*, the second time in just seconds. PRIDE woulda done that fight yeaaars ago.
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 I know right? They let everyone try to avenge their loses...up to 4 times sometimes it seems like... I would imagine it would go something like Fedor vs. whats his name in their rematch...(the dude who "beat" him in rings)
