I'm glad that of all the single brand AKA off month (well, now a days sometimes the same month as the big 4) PPVs, Armaggedon at least still has the bad ass theme song, "The End." It was on Anthology, is currently being played in the Orton/Taker HiaC PPV hype commercials; and it's at least something that makes the PPV stand apart, to me. I'm glad New Year's Revolution is getting the Elimination Chamber again, just so people expect it as a yearly tradition, but the month placement of the PPV (with Royal Rumble, traditionally the #2 PPV of the year) is not so good. The only other single brand PPVs I can think of with a tradition feel theme at this point are RAW's Bad Blood for the HiaC, and Smackdown!'s the Great American Bash for Underataler killing someone. I hope some of the other single brand PPVs can start to build their own traditions.

Another thing is since Hogan had been away for awhile, Vince knew there was still money in him. Nash was the puzzler because he had zero dollars in him and Hall was just a headache.

It appeared as if WWE and Brock Lesnar were close to settling their legal problems, but WWE filed a restraining order against Lesnar on 12/6 asking the court to keep him from wrestling for New Japan Pro-Wrestling or any other wrestling promotion. Lesnar is currently NJPW's IWGP Champion and is being promoted as one of their top stars.

 

WWE filed a 25 page Memorandum explaining their side, claiming that Lesnar has admitted that he started working for NJPW even before the court made a decision to allow him to do so. WWE also says that Lesnar had reached a verbal agreement with Vince McMahon and WWE in July but then turned around and negotiated a deal with NJPW which he ended up taking. WWE also mentioned that NJPW is promoting Lesnar as a "former WWE Champion" without their permission. WWE mentioned that they may go after NJPW legally in the future.

 

WWE also invited Lesnar to appear before the court and explain why he signed a deal with NJPW, ignoring both his written agreement with WWE and the legal process that he himself started back in February. Lesnar's camp has yet to respond.

 

This whole mess started when Lesnar signed an agreement that got him out of his WWE contract back in 2004 so he could pursue an NFL career. The contract he signed included a 10 year no-compete clause. Once Lesnar's attempt to make it to the NFL failed, he wanted to return to WWE but couldn't reach a deal. He then filed suit against WWE, saying the company was trying to keep him from earning a living. Before the legal process was finished, Lesnar signed a deal with NJPW and has been working for them since.

As of 8:30 p.m., or less than eight hours away from his scheduled match in Osaka against Manabu Nakanishi, U.S. District court in Connecticut has not upheld WWE's request for a temporary restraining order.

 

The WWE was attepting to stop Lesnar's matches with Nakanishi very late tonight, Yuji Nagata very late tomorrow night and a third match on January 4th at the Tokyo Dome against Kazuyuki Fujita.

 

It seems highly unlikely given the time frame and it being the weekend, that any restraining order would stop the weekend matches from taking place.

 

To grant the order, the WWE needed to prove it would suffer irreparable harm if Lesnar were to perform in the weekend matches. Such an assertion is laughable on the surface.
