Yeah, that "some" thing doesn't seem right. I don't see any reason it shouldn't work for all games.

It's 100% wrong and it's your usual shitty blog "reporting."

I'm using a Wavebird and it plays fantastic.

You get a prompt that says just that, but then just press a button on the Bird and there you go.

Well, there you go then. That's pretty embarassing.

Did Wii break your TV?

People aren't getting a grip on Nintendo's new system.

By Mike Smith

29 Nov 2006

Picture this. You're lining up the perfect shot in Wii Bowling, remote in hand. You set up the shot, swing the remote with all the strength you can muster, and... follow through a little more than you intended.

Somehow the remote leaves your sweaty-palmed grip and bang, smash, there goes your TV, window, photo of your granny, anything that happens to be in the path of the newly liberated remote.

Hold on, though. If you're wearing the (supplied) wrist strap, no harm done, right? So you'd think. As you can see, some Wii owners are finding the strap decidedly lacking. (Check out nascent site wiihaveaproblem.com for more strap malfunctions.) The problem isn't with the amply broad strap itself, but the considerably narrower section that connects the strap with the remote, which is prone to fray in some circumstances. The result is smashed remotes, smashed televisions, smashed windows, and unhappy (or, at least, somewhat red-faced) customers.

Teething hardware troubles are hardly new to the world of console launches, especially in the last year or so. The Xbox 360's original overheating issues are well documented, with the first production run of consoles suffering what is generally regarded to be an unusually high failure rate. We're even hearing the start of mutterings about overheating issues with some brand new PS3s. But it's probably the first time a console's design has lead --albeit indirectly -- to quite such a catalogue of destruction. To its credit, Nintendo appears to be happy to replace the wrist strap in some circumstances, but if there really is an underlying design weakness, then it needs to be addressed before an unfortunate (or worse, sue-happy) bystander gets beaned by a stray remote.

Sure, it's easy to laugh at the misfortune of these hapless Wii'ers, especially if you're still combing stores for miles around looking for yours. One broken strap could be regarded as misfortune, but as the volume of fractured straps grows, it starts to look more like carelessness -- or, at least, evidence of a lack of real-world testing.

In the meantime, wise Wii owners will want to consider hunting round the house for something a little stronger -- or waiting for one of the more opportunistic peripheral manufacturers to cash in on the opportunity to flog reinforced replacements at an inflated price. That's business.

How hard do you have to swing the damn remote for bowling? Can anybody who's played Wii Sports provide more details?

You don't have to swing hard at all. Baseball is the only game where it swinging hard matters. The only reason these people are breaking their straps is because they're probably going crazy with it.

Hilarious as long as someone doesn't get injured. I was wondering if something like this was going to happen.

i dunno, the thin connector part of the strap does seem awfully flimsy from what I'm seeing. they should probably replace it with thicker material. Its less of a big deal with other stuff like cameras or whatnot, but really, what's the point of a Wii if you have to temper or soften your movements? Going full bore is what makes it fun, and the wrist strap should hold and not just snap unless you're Superman.

It is very possible to drop the wiimote while playing, especially if your hands get sweaty.

In other news, no Wii for me again this morning. The only ways to get one now (besides overpaying online) is 1) being very lucky to be at a EB/GS quickly after a shipment comes in, as they only get a few at a time or 2) waiting until the national chains release them all on Sunday after they place their ads, which means you'll have to be there like 4am to have any shot unless you live in Podunk, Nowhereland.

Alyanna, Walmart ads are saying they will have a new shipment on 12/6, heads up!

that being said, you may have to get there early enough to get one.

Sadly it's a minimum of a whopping 3 per store.

I heard that too about Walmart for Tuesday. And I have off, so I'll try then. Only bad part is I hate Walmarts. The one closest to me is really grungy and in a bad area. The other is a Supercenter one open 24 hours, and I'm sure it will be filled.

Most Walmarts will get way more than that.

They should be. It's the same as the other Walmart's, except you can't buy groceries.

There's probably only Supercenters in Omaha, because it's Nebraska. There's like 20 Walmarts overall in the city area here.

you'd be surprised...I think we have at least 10 of them within the city and areas just outside the city.

Anyway, while I'll have the money, I may just wait it out until after the holidays...there's just no way in hell I'm going to a store super early in themorning just to beat out every one else...I work and I require sleep...

I want to head to the Toys R Us in Times Square. I bet they will have a HUGE shipment of Wiis. They better not bundle it. The circular for the Toys R Us in my area is out and they are bundling the Wii with Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I just want the system.

I heard about TRU forcing bundles. But, the TRU's I went to today only had signs for $249 Wii's. Hopefully after the 360 bullshit they pulled, they can't do it anymore. And they had 20 display boxes, which led to the poor employees getting annoyed since everyone was asking for one.

Keep in mind that I am not searching for a Wii nor do I plan to buy one for a few months - but it really 'grinds my gears' that we live in the year 2006 (almost 2007) and companies such as Sony and Nintendo still cannot meet demand with supply. It's really ridicuolous if you think about it for a second.

Sony is ridiculous with how their running their launches... but NOBODY expected the Wii to boom like it has thus far. Nintendo is getting Wiis out, at least in my area. All the EB/GS's are getting a shipment of 5-10 most days. But, they sell out immediately. Whereas with the PS3, they get nothing.

Nintendo isn't shipping as many as they should either. It's not because Wii is such a huge success, it's not like Nintendo has 2 million of them out there. 600,000 is a lot better then the PS3 debacle but they still probably will not meet the numbers they had hyped up.

All 3 are guilty of crappy launches. We know why there's no PS3s...but why Nintendo and MS? I suspect incompetence and shady business tactics! But just like the hit on the Metroid guy I can't actually back that up.

An Xbox fanboy/plant on another board Anya and I frequent was talking about how Nintendo had Yakuza ties and what not. It pretty much can all be tied to Yamauchi, who by many accounts is as evil as he looks.

Gunpei Yokoi was killed by being hit by a drunk driver--said fanboy implied it was a mob hit or something.

Of course this is moot since Yamauchi isn't even associated with the company anymore (was on the board of directors, now not even that), but he was a creepy, ruthless bastard who could probably be credited with much of Nintendo's highly aggressive/illegal behavior in the 80's.

FWIW, now Nintendo is run by a guy a who worked on the Kirby and Earthbound games.
