Someone forgot to tell the Angels that their season is over. Oh well. Hope they win tommorrow though as there needs to be a little payback for the last two years where the Angels celebrated in Oakland.

Hey, Manny Ramirez wants to be traded again. Outside of Bonds, he has to be the most irritating player in baseball.

He's not irritating. He's just being Manny.

P.S. the Reds have the worst defense on the planet. It's like a little league game out there right now. Five errors through 3 1/3 innings. On top of that, there was a play where Encarnacion could've gotten two errors but was spared of both.

Who said that?

Whoever was calling Marlins-Phils with Timmy. Gotta rip Moneyball at every turn, y'know.

I like it when mainstream sports personalities mock Moneyball. They're just getting more people to read it by doing so.

He was right in that specific inference though. The book made it sound like the A's flipped a nothing catcher for Chad Bradford, and that catcher (Miguel Olivo) was a legit player.

Man, it just looks like the Cards are playing dead. Albert got thrown out trying to score on a single and it wasn't even close. Him and Oquendo had eyes afterwards. And Marquis is just...bad. He's got a chance at becoming the first pitcher since 1979 to lead the league in both wins and losses. Presuming the Astros win tonite and tomorrow, they'll be 3.5 back with 7 games to go. The way the 'Stros are playing and the way the Cards are playing, it might not seem probable, but it is certainly possible that they could sneak in the backdoor.

Oh shit, that was nasty.

Hopefully it's just a leg break, and there's no nerve or artery damage. If not, he should be able to play again.

Joe Maddon, the old Angels bench coach, is managing the Rays. I think they're pretty committed to him, and I wanted to see a sabermetrics-friendly manager do well. Shame about the bad season.

Maddon is a sabermetrician? I always assumed he was a Mike Sciosia "Small ball, speed, intangibles, gritty" type clone.

He has been a Major League coach for the past 12 seasons and was a serious candidate for the Red Sox job before Terry Francona was hired. Among Madden's strong suits are his organizational skills and acumen crunching baseball data via computer.

I think he seems to favor the numbers. And come on, LOOK AT HIM:

Does that look like the gritty ol' skipper who's been around this game of ours longer than you've been alive, kid?

Just after I was about to say "Goddam Crawford Boxes" after Chris "Gleaming Gold God" Duncan hit a 2-run shot, Aubrey Huff muscled up on Jorge Sosa and went to right field to give the 'Stros a one-run lead. Take away both Crawford Box homeruns and it's still 2-1 'Stros.

In the Battle for Second, Toronto wins tonight, so their deficit is cut to a game and a half.

And Randy Johnson got slapped around again, so that's always good to hear.

If the Astros and White Sox don't make the playoffs this year (which is all but a certainty), it will be the first time since 1991 that BOTH teams that made the World Series miss the playoffs the following season (A's, Reds)

I'm not counting the strike year.

Luke Fuckin' Scott! 3-run walkoff homerun to win the third straight over the Cards!!! 4.5 games back!!! Sweeeeeeeeep!!!! Sweeeeeeeeep!!!!!

I find it interesting that the Astros now have a better shot at winning the division and going to the postseason than the ChiSox.

The Cards are still overrated. If any team in the Central had a semblance of a winning team or a spine, they'd be dead and buried by now. If Pujols wins the MVP then there's really no reason to have the award for the next 5 or 6 years since they should just hand it to him in April because he's Albert Pujols.

I wouldn't say outside of Rolen the lineup is crap around Pujols. From what I've seen of the Cards this year, Chris Duncan and Scott Speizio have performed better than Rolen.

Well, Rolen's been playing a couple months more than Duncan...and Spiezio hasn't played as many games as Rolen, at least I don't think he has. I was just talking about the specific games that I've seen. Admittedly, I haven't seen any Cardinals games outside of the ones against the 'Stros and a couple on ESPN. The last few weeks at least, I'm pretty sure that Duncan and Spiezio have done more than Rolen. Maybe the resident Cards' fan(s) can either prove or disprove that.
