Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2006 Hot damn it’s a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge show, I haven’t even read all the matches just skimmed them (cause well I was curious to see who won and I don’t have time to read ALL of them in one sitting.) I’m just in mark out city right now. Reading the show I wonder about the status of certain people and hope and wish that they all become regulars in the SWF once again – Danny naturally but I’ve also really enjoyed the Kevin Coyote character and would I mark out for Janus & Aecas back amongst us? Who wouldn’t? While there are two matches to be edited in it looks like the most action packed, “well attended” (read no double no shows or rush jobs) PPVs in a long time, awesome work guys, just tremendous. I’m not going to comment much more right now (once I actually read the matches I’ll come back) But I would like to hear some comments on the International Title match, I’ve been working hard on transforming Bruce from Hardcore “Smash & Bash” brawler to more actual wrestling with an old school vibe. Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2006 I was pretty pissed this morning, but I kinda cooled down now. I'll give the whole show a read sometime later today.
Guest S.O.L. Report post Posted September 19, 2006 I was physically nervous to check the boards this morning. When I realized that I was at the last segment before where the match would go, I turned my head and scrolled down blind. I'm just glad the first one is in the books, I'd like to see what all the other boys did in their match.

Guest Da_Big_Nasty Report post Posted September 19, 2006 I'de actually like to know why I lost. Though I know SOL's was better written, I just think my match was better overall.

Guest Divefire Report post Posted September 20, 2006 That's gonna take a while to read... Looks superb though, what a way to go into year 7. Now to put on my match marker pants (Simon Cowel edition). If you lost, it's because your marker liked the other match better. Yeah, it sucks, been there, but there's nothing personal about it. If you want to know why pm the guy who marked it and ask, and/or post the match on here so people can critique on it. That's all I'm going to say publicly, PM if you want to rant at me. Guest El XL Report post Posted September 20, 2006 I go away to Las Vegas for a week (and come back 800 bucks richer!) to this? fucking hell that was awesome and in a way I was glad to miss it because I'd have lost to each and every single one of those I think cause that just blew me away. Rocking work guys
Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Bruce Blank uses toothpaste?Oh come on now he's been shaving and showering (and brushing) since he won the International title I have no comments on how often that happened before Joseph Peters forced a "Style consultent" on him though. Hell now that he's beaten Hawke he's even getting the mullet cut.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Landon/Drake is in and holy crap I actually won!? Awesome. Although, the ending's been trimmed off so I'll post that up seperately for posterity.
Above Average 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 That was a really good show. I wanted to wait on commenting until or match was up and Landon did write a excellent match. I'm not really upset because I knew going in it'd be tough competition beating a big match writer like him in this situation. Just going over the matches I read completely. WC did a hell of a job trying to create a sense of vengence. The shoulder thing was worked in well with the given storyline and was expected, although I don't quite understand a shoulder breaker finish (I guess you were trying to hyperextend the arm?). I thought there might be a few moves better suited towards the sub, but I honestly can't think of any right now. But anyway, now that that chapter is closed it'll be interesting to see where you go from here. The main event was a helluva match. Toxxic has improved greatly as a writer in handling 'pure' wrestlers since his match against Mak last year. The running commentary about Flesher's weight tying into the finish, where no amount of technical knowledge or skill can make up for speed and ingenuity was brilliant. I need to read everything on the show before commenting some more, but I think we should be proud of this one.
Toxxic 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Toxxic has improved greatly as a writer in handling 'pure' wrestlers since his match against Mak last year. You can blame ROH for that. I'm going to try and do a more thorough read-through of the show and comment tomorrow evening. However, until then may I say that I am surprised to have won. I won't say shocked, because I did feel I had a good chance - however, Flesher has been THE man for so long that I had my doubts whether the best I had was good enough to take him on PPV at Genesis. It appears that it was, this time at least. Oh, and congrats to SOL. I'll try and do some commentary on your match in particular.

As far as the finish, the point was for the swing that WC took to have separated Van Siclen's shoulder, thereby making the shoulder breaker submission possible; basically, I was going for the WarGames '92 finish. If I'd had time to add it in, I would have had WC do additional damage to the shoulder by jumping off the top to spike that weapon into MVS's shoulder. Toxxic 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 SOL’s match: First of all, a note about the commentators - Mak Francis made his name as a cocky amateur-wrestler turned pro; he varied between face and heel, but was cocky whichever he was. The Suicide King on the other hand is one of THE great heels in the federation’s history, a dirty, conniving, smarmy and cowardly bastard. He won’t generally express a great deal of enthusiasm for anything much, unless it’s seeing a face get his ass handed to him by a heel. He also has a particular affinity for Tom Flesher, who was something of a protégé of his. Nice notion with the scissors-paper-stone to decide who starts the match - a quick bit of ‘gelling’ for the faces. Plus Landon and I used it recently J Not sure about MANSON getting up quicker from the pin than Raina - sure, he’s tough, but Raina’s young and athletic and delivered the most recent move. The ‘Scott’ overload is a nice touch, but again not something I think King would necessarily participate in (or Mak for that matter - he’s possibly a little too cool). Also, I’m not sure about a spear being able to take Rageheart out like that - granted he’s basically a jobber these days, but that was the only move he’d taken in the match so far. However, the sequence leading up to it was good, emphasising Raina’s speed advantage. The elimination of Raina was fine, Rageheart could conceivably be angry enough to interfere and cause the distraction. The repetition of the phrase ‘a jerk and a turn’ about Irish whips was used a little too close together, if you were going to do that I’d have suggested using something like ‘with a jerk and turn of her own’ for slight difference. …and that’s about all I’ve got. I’d like the match longer with it taking more to put each person out (the distraction roll-up was fine, but Rageheart and MANSON are tough customers), but as you can see from the main event I tend to write bloated epics given the chance and conciseness is often a virtue. Overall, I’m sorry I couldn’t offer more constructive criticism, but there wasn’t really a lot there to critique. I’d have done some things differently, but a lot of it is about personal choice of language and familiarity with how things are generally done and the ‘feel’ of this fed rather than any issues per se. I reckon you’ve got a lot of promise! …and if you turn out to be Annie under a mask, I’m going to fly over there and slap you
Guest Da_Big_Nasty Report post Posted September 20, 2006 Any chance I could get a nice review of my losing match? I did actually write a match.
Toxxic 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 I've just reviewed it. I went for 'constructive criticism' rather than 'nice', so take it as you will. It's meant to help, not to imply that I'm having a go or trying to make you feel bad about yourself.

It's meant to help, not to imply that I'm having a go or trying to make you feel bad about yourself. I do feel deflated after reading your comments. As much as I do appreciate the help it just kinda felt like a big let down for me. I think overall, I just tried to do to much. Alot of the things I was trying to get off psychologically weren't detailed out enough. I've been efedding for a long time but the whole, writing your match instead of busting out 12 roleplays a week is something I'll have to get used to. Also, I agree with most, if not all of what you said. I think my nervousness about my first match and being stuck on all the things I had in mind was my downfall. I guess I'll have to work on a promo for Aftershoxxx and hope to improve.
Toxxic 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 All we can ask for. I lost my first competitive match and remember similar feelings.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Hey, I lost my first competitive match too, and then went on to win a metric ton of no-shows and got the JL world title in six months, sadly also on a no-show. Toxxic won a ton of no-shows and some championships in his first six months too, if i'm not mistaken, but see...the thing is, kids, the man's got talent. Where as for me, I think my first two competitive victories were over IL (in Mall Brawl) and Spike Jenkins, which was 5 months later in a 4 person battle royal (with Manson Pre-CAPS and Korgath) for a Euro Title shot, against Maddix which he no-showed and then elbowed me in the eye less than two months later. I'm fairly certain I faced Korgath at a point in November that year, that he did show for also, meaning I only won competitively against 3 people my entire JL run, and lost competitively to 3 people also (EngDrag, Royal, and Maddix). A total of 7 competitive matches in a period where I won 2 Euro titles and a World Title, all by no-show. Wooo for me.
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 My first match was against MANSON and Rando in a triple threat, but they both no-showed, so my first competitive match was against El Luchadore Fucking Magnifico. Coulda been worse, Raina, coulda been worse.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Had I not disappeared from the fed again and had known Devon Walters had a chance at a world title shot, I probably would have showed. I would have lost to ELM in short order, but I would have at least showed for Genesis. Because of that, I still say that I have never actually taken part in a Genesis PPV. Guest S.O.L. Report post Posted September 21, 2006 MikeofEvil: Thank you for the criticism. I had trouble writing the announcers, mainly since I didn't know who they are really. I tried reading two shows back until the Genesis show, but I don't think I have the hang of it yet. I appreciate the critique, since it will help me write them better last time. I knew the irish whip segment wasn't good looking, but I was tired and it was all I had. Still, I'm glad someone thought the Scott segment was funny. I wrote myself into a hole there. I don't know who Annie is, but on pain of slappings I can honestly say I'm not her!
