This won't be a true Aaron Sorkin project until some eeeeeeeevil Republicans try to shut down their comedy show, but those ugly ignorant monsters shalt be no match for the bright and sophisticated Chandler.

The second show was better then the debut as Matt/Albie are really good together here. The dynamic between all the cast members and those two are really good and the various circumstances they all share is really interesting. I hope the DL Hughley character expands because he's really good in this low key nature.

Great show.

I loved the bit where he's talking to the room of writers about how everyone is going to start dressing, writing, and behaving professionally and then his ex bursts through the door and yells something about how he's an 'adolescent, oversexed whoremonger.' And he just deadpans "And all that will begin in just a few minutes." That had me laughing quite a bit (even if it was a little bit Chandler-ish).

As an eeeevil Republican, I enjoy the show I find the cast likeable and premise great it takes what I enjoyed about SportsNight and tosses it into the dramatic arena. Also, it helps that my field of study is Entertainment Studies, which explains a lot of my attraction to the show.

Man, I didn't even think of that. Nicholas Brendon would work GREAT on this show. His delivery is perfect for this sort of thing.

I guess I'm in the minority a little bit here. I looooved the pilot, but I was pretty disappointed with the second episode. It didn't pack that much punch, and after all the build up to the show, all we saw was the stupid unfunny song before it went off the air. They should have at least showed the Crazy Christians sketch. I also really didn't find myself laughing much whereas most of the stuff when Matt was on painkillers was hilarious.

 

I'll certainly be watching this week, (MNF and Raw both tend to bore the shit out of me lately), but I really hope this isn't one of those cases where a brilliant concept from the pilot ends up turning to shit five episodes in.

A few problems:

 

-Amanda Peet is a deer in headlights. She's been funny in other things, but she's doing Sorkin-by-numbers here.

 

-The high drama/fast pace just doesn't work as well in something like this as it does when you're dealing with the government of the most powerful nation in the world. This needs some time to develop an identity that isn't just "hey, West Wing in Hollywood!" which is exactly the format it's in now.

 

-It's not that funny. The early seasons of the West Wing had me rolling; this stuff, again, needs to get fleshed out a little more.

 

But I'll keep watching, I think.

Just saw the 2nd episode. It was pretty good. It's still no West Wing though but the subject matter is the reason for that. It was definately good, even if Matt and Danny are literally channeling Chandler and Josh Lyman. But thats kinda what makes em likeable.

Two episodes. Heroes had a huge rating and that dropped for Studio 60. There's something to be said about a drop off like that.

Why not? The Heroes premiere brought a big audience and it was only able to sustain a little more than half of it. That's not good.

AND might I add that Monday at 10 is a shitty place to be since CSI Miami and Studio 60 have the same demo.

There's plenty of distinction between branches of "TV is serious business." I don't think too many people checking out a watered-down X-Men are gonna be that excited about a transplanted West Wing about SNL.

 

This show needs to stop showing the sketches. They're worse than what shitty sketch comedy shows air now. I don't know why Sorkin's insisting on this route; if a West Wing episode was about getting three senators to switch their votes, there wasn't a lame montage showing speeches in chambers or the actual vote.

While I agree, at the same time Sports Night wouldn't have been nearly the great show it was without showing the Sports Night broadcast once in a while.

the show itself is excellent, but the premise is kinda lame. If Aaron Sorkin wasn't diong it, I'd never watch a show about the backstage happenings of Saturday Night Live.
