SuperJerk Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 This won't be a true Aaron Sorkin project until some eeeeeeeevil Republicans try to shut down their comedy show, but those ugly ignorant monsters shalt be no match for the bright and sophisticated Chandler. Say...didn't Matthew Perry once play one of those so-called "eeeeeeeevil Republicans" on "The West Wing"? Hmmm. I guess they couldn't have been so "eeeeeeeevil" after all.
Hawk 34 Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 The second show was better then the debut as Matt/Albie are really good together here. The dynamic between all the cast members and those two are really good and the various circumstances they all share is really interesting. I hope the DL Hughley character expands because he's really good in this low key nature.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 "So now I'm just a guy in a wig?" Nate rules. And the DL/Whitford stuff was awesome.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 The second show was better then the debut as Matt/Danny are really good together here. ZGangsta Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Great show. I loved the bit where he's talking to the room of writers about how everyone is going to start dressing, writing, and behaving professionally and then his ex bursts through the door and yells something about how he's an 'adolescent, oversexed whoremonger.' And he just deadpans "And all that will begin in just a few minutes." That had me laughing quite a bit (even if it was a little bit Chandler-ish).
Spaceman Spiff Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 How long until that countdown clock gets smashed?
Anakin Flair Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 I would love to see Nicholas Brendon on this show. I just have the feeling that him and Perry would have great chemistry togetehr.
Darthtiki Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 As an eeeevil Republican, I enjoy the show I find the cast likeable and premise great it takes what I enjoyed about SportsNight and tosses it into the dramatic arena. Also, it helps that my field of study is Entertainment Studies, which explains a lot of my attraction to the show.

His delivery is perfect for this sort of thing.
iggymcfly Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 I guess I'm in the minority a little bit here. I looooved the pilot, but I was pretty disappointed with the second episode. It didn't pack that much punch, and after all the build up to the show, all we saw was the stupid unfunny song before it went off the air. They should have at least showed the Crazy Christians sketch. I also really didn't find myself laughing much whereas most of the stuff when Matt was on painkillers was hilarious. I'll certainly be watching this week, (MNF and Raw both tend to bore the shit out of me lately), but I really hope this isn't one of those cases where a brilliant concept from the pilot ends up turning to shit five episodes in.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 A few problems: -Amanda Peet is a deer in headlights. She's been funny in other things, but she's doing Sorkin-by-numbers here. -The high drama/fast pace just doesn't work as well in something like this as it does when you're dealing with the government of the most powerful nation in the world. This needs some time to develop an identity that isn't just "hey, West Wing in Hollywood!" which is exactly the format it's in now. -It's not that funny. The early seasons of the West Wing had me rolling; this stuff, again, needs to get fleshed out a little more. But I'll keep watching, I think.
bobobrazil1984 Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Just saw the 2nd episode. It was pretty good. It's still no West Wing though but the subject matter is the reason for that. It was definately good, even if Matt and Danny are literally channeling Chandler and Josh Lyman. But thats kinda what makes em likeable. The ending song was pretty hilarious

You'd think we're all evil by the way we're represented.
Vern Gagne Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 The show is not doing well in the ratings. It lost 40% of the Heroes audience last week. Things could get ugly with the uber-fans.
J.T. Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 The show is not doing well in the ratings. How can you make that statement after 1 week. Plus Heroes was the Premier, tough to judge because of that/
Hawk 34 Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 The show is not doing well in the ratings. How can you make that statement after 1 week. Plus Heroes was the Premier, tough to judge because of that/ Two episodes. Heroes had a huge rating and that dropped for Studio 60. There's something to be said about a drop off like that.
Vern Gagne Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 My sister works in advertising, and NBC is a client of the company she works for. She told us Sunday the station was disappointed in Studio 60.
KingPK Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 The show is not doing well in the ratings. How can you make that statement after 1 week. Plus Heroes was the Premier, tough to judge because of that/ Why not? The Heroes premiere brought a big audience and it was only able to sustain a little more than half of it. That's not good.
J.T. Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 Because a premier brings in people who really wanna see heroes and have zero interest in the brand that is NBC. Plus to think that a show like Heroes has teh same audience that Studio 60 has is not smart. AND might I add that Monday at 10 is a shitty place to be since CSI Miami and Studio 60 have the same demo. I think is just stupid for anybody to judge a shows ratings after 1 or 2 weeks. Ditto for a company like NBC to be "dissapointed" after this amount of time. There is a reason NBC is getting its ass kicked in the ratings. One of them is over reacting to both postive and negative ratings after little time.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 I thought they both had that Lost/Whedon "TV is serious business" fanbase.

Edwin MacPhisto Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 There's plenty of distinction between branches of "TV is serious business." I don't think too many people checking out a watered-down X-Men are gonna be that excited about a transplanted West Wing about SNL. This show needs to stop showing the sketches. They're worse than what shitty sketch comedy shows air now. I don't know why Sorkin's insisting on this route; if a West Wing episode was about getting three senators to switch their votes, there wasn't a lame montage showing speeches in chambers or the actual vote.

While I agree, at the same time Sports Night wouldn't have been nearly the great show it was without showing the Sports Night broadcast once in a while. Of course, we all know how many people actually got to see Sports Night, too, so...
J.T. Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 Sports Night was such an unbeliavble show. So if Studio 60 gets only 2 years and the mass doesnt get it, I'll still be happy.
bobobrazil1984 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 the show itself is excellent, but the premise is kinda lame. If Aaron Sorkin wasn't diong it, I'd never watch a show about the backstage happenings of Saturday Night Live.
Guest Hotbutter Spoontoaster Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Episode 4 - The West Coast Delay - October/9th/2006. After a live taping, the "Studio 60" team become aware that they unwittingly plagiarized another comedian's material, an act they are desperate to delete from their West Coast feed.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Sounds like they'll really have to kick their determined striding into high gear.
Mecha Mummy Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Holy shit, is that Dawn from the UK version of The Office on the writing staff? Awesome.
