teke184 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 9-5 for me, unless a miracle happens in Tucson. I'm awaiting the glorious Beaver logo. Leena and the words "glorious" and "beaver" in the same sentence... Are we sure this is in the right forum?

Bored 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 This was an odd week as we had a wide spread in correct picks from 4 to 12. Annnd this caused more CONTROVERSY~ in the BCS. Soooo...I didn't even want to post these. But because of the inevitable whining...um I mean questions, I'm going to give you a breakdown of the Top 3. Leena's ranks W/L: 1st Correct %: 4th SoS: 28th (1 x .45) + (4 x .45) + (28 x .1) = 5.05 Spiff's ranks W/L: 8th Correct %: 2nd SoS: 4th (8 x .45) + (2 x .45) + (4 x .1) = 4.90 Will's ranks W/L: 5th Correct %: 1st SoS: 22nd (5 x .45) + (1 x .45) + (22 x 1) = 4.90 So that is how a 3-2 team is tied for first. Win/Loss record is the first tiebreak for rankings so Will retains te #1 spot. Spiff has had bad luck with his opponents while Leena has had good luck with her opponents. That's the way it goes and right now #1 and #2 have been the best pickers so far so there really shouldn't be too much complaining even though there will be. Eight more weeks for things to change so again...don't stress about it too much. Now on to the full poll. Bored's Championship Series Rankings thru Week 5 1. Hawaii - Will Scarlet 4.9 2. Miami - Spaceman Spiff 4.9 3. Oregon State - Princess Leena 5.05 4. Syracuse - CanadianChris 6.25 5. South Carolina - Cuban Linx 6.7 6. Temple - Ortonsault 8.25 7. Kentucky - Danville Wrestling 8.5 8. Oregon - nogoodnick 9.1 9. Virginia - Edwin MacPhisto 9.4 10. Georgia Tech - iggymcfly 9.8 Other Receiving Votes: Auburn (Agent of Oblivion), Florida (Urban Warfare), Minnesota (Vern Gagne), UCLA (phoenixrising)

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 1, 2006 WARNING: WHINING The flaw with this system is that SOS is weighted far too heavily, in that it supersedes actually winning games. And this will only get worse as the year goes on, as teams separate themselves with their records. The team that's really getting screwed here is Hawaii. He's had more correct picks. And won more games. And yet is tied with someone lesser in both. Here's a hypothetical situation that is a possible realistic scenario at the end of the year: Oregon State (12-0). 1st in W/L. 1st in picks. 30th in SOS. = 3.9 Oregon (11-1). 2nd in W/L. 6th in picks. 1st in SOS. = 3.7 With 40 teams in the game, the SOS needs to be lowered. Or, even done away with. But, this is just my suggestion.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 A loss to me makes a team better. Spiff deserves to be #2.

iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 Gotta love the controversy. The contest wouldn't be as much fun without it. I'll just be glad to be in the Top Ten this week, and I'll slowly worm my way back toward the top in the weeks that follow. By the way, Bored, think how much more fun this thread would have been if you hadn't posted the details until tomorrow. We could have had 10 different whiny Leena posts about why she should be in first.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 With 40 teams in the game, the SOS needs to be lowered. Or, even done away with. But, this is just my suggestion. No arguments here. Of course, I'm dead last in SOS this year, which -- if it continues -- makes it impossible for me to have a ranking less than 4.9, which probably won't be good enough for a top-2 finish even if I continue undefeated and work my way to the top in correct picks. Not my fault no one has a good week against me.

We could have had 10 different whiny Leena posts about why she should be in first. I agree. A well-rested Leelee always bitches better. Hawaii ran up the score in week 1 to boost their ranking. Miami gets love for losing. Oregon State just wins. You play to win the game. And the Beavers will continue to do that. Next week: Oregon State (5-0) vs. Oregon (5-0) - SCREWED BOWL. Bored: Obviously an OU and Damaramu enthusiast!
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 The team that's really getting screwed here is Hawaii. He's had more correct picks. And won more games. And yet is tied with someone lesser in both. I don't mind, really. I have Miami later in the season, and, I believe, I also have a game against Oregon St in Week 7. That should help solve some of the controversy, I think. Besides, the Bored Bowl is still light years away. I am sure everything will smooth out before then. As an aside, I believe this is the straight year I was involved in some sort of controversy in this contest. Cool.
