Some people should not be allowed to own computers...

Recommended Posts

I just finished with trying to help the stupidest man in Maryland try to connect to the internet on his desktop. I wanted to verify his configuration, so I asked him to open up the DOS shell and type 'ipconfig /all'

His response, and I quote, "I have a key that says 'Alt,' but I don't see 'All.'"

ARRRGH!

Heh.

Although, that was rather advanced advice to give to most casual computer owners.

I certainly don't miss hearing this response everytime I told someone to click on something.

"Left or Right"

I got to where I would say "Always Left unless I tell you otherwise" but they still asked.

No, it's not. Just stay unemployed.

And yes, while I understand DOS, it's not something I would've tried to have some retard do...

Even I don't know how to bring up DOS command prompt on XP without looking it up... :(

I do msconfig through Start > Run...

Believe me, for most people this stupid, I just connect to their computer and configure shit myself... But, as I was trying to set this dumbass up, I discovered much to my chagrin that IE owns him, too. I mean, hell, he kept doing dumb shit like forgetting to add the .com, if you can fucking believe that... How am I supposed to tell someone that stupid to go to a website and enter a code so that I can connect to his computer? I even typed the link up and e-mailed it to him, and he still somehow managed to fuck it up.

I never get it when you ask them to type in any web address in the address bar that they just go silent. Then you suggest google.com or yahoo.com and its as if you're speaking french to them. And these are people who have been online many times before.

My current biggest beef is with people who have about 5 pop-up blockers on IE and have no idea what that even is.

I still want to know how restart your computer turns into just turning the fucking thing off.

Plus, you haven't lived until you've asked someone to press the power off button on their TV and hear that they can't because they don't know if their TV has one since they have always just used the remote.

I recall hearing or reading a story about a woman who thought the mouse was like a gas pedal and was stepping on it

I guess it could be worse, but my 70 year old co-worker got the regular "Windows needs to update your computer" dealie popup that comes every so often. So, fine, she allows it to restart to finish the updates.

But, curiously, it takes longer than usual to reset the computer.

So, irritated at the screen that must have said something like, "windows updating" she just turned it off...

Upon startup the thing just BSOD'd right off.

I thought that alone was pretty funny. Then she started to claim that she must have gotten one of those "viruses" and wouldn't believe me when I told her she broke it, and how she broke it.

I wonder if people who mock people for not knowing things about cpu's are aware that people make fun of them for knowing things about cpu's.

Uh oh, we're too smart...

I wonder if people who mock people for not having frames for their posters are aware that people make fun of them for having frames for their posters.
