Guest NYankees Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Between Hunter's dive for that ball, Bartlett's adventures, and everybody swinging at everything yesterday, the Twins have done a remarkable job of taking themselves out of this series. What about Jason Tyner: Designated Hitter? I'd designate him for a lot of other things before a hitter. What about Rondell White as the lf.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Twins are done. The A's have a history of pissing away series where they just need the clincher, but I can't envision them not sealing the deal with two at home and only having to see Santana once more. Now let's just hope the A's don't look like fools against the Yankees. Or Tigers.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 there are a lot of differences between the a's of 2001 and now. none of the pitchers were healthy then. plus, loaiza, who is probably the weakest starter in their rotation has won his game...with haren & harden up next....they won't lose. Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 How can you compare this year's A's to those 3 teams? There are just a few players remaining from those teams. It's a different manager and a different organizational philosophy in team building. I don't know what their lack of success has to do with this year's team. I don't know what their lack of success has to do with this year's team. just how they were unhealthy when they choked against the yanks. i'm not talking about any other instance. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I didn't know that this was the second A's inside-the-park homer in postseason history. The last one? October 4, 2002. The centerfielder who misplayed it into a homer? Tori Hunter.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Funny that the last inside-the-park was an Oakland A in the Metrodome because Torii Hunter misplayed the ball. Oh, and did you see that jug of Captain Morgan in Torii's locker? Maybe that's to blame.

Bored 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Damn I had to go back to work right before Kotsay's at bat but oh well, thanks Torii. I hope they wrap it up Friday because if they lose the "can't win a clinching game" talk will be all we'll hear about going into Saturday. Of course it might be all we'll hear about going into Friday. At least through the first two games the things that killed the A's in past playoffs such as lack of "clutch" hitting, baserunning errors, and defensive miscues are happening to the other team this time around. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Who was unhealthy? I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, I just don't remember. didn't mulder have a broken leg. and hudson had the oblique problem. hudson tried throwing but he didn't pitch well. mulder wasn't even on the roster. that left like zito..and redman? to start. their pitching was decimated, and they didn't have much of a bullpen back then, too. of course they had a better offensive line-up then. my point is is simply that the a's now have 5 healthy high end pitchers at their disposal. i think thy're really going to be tough to beat as long as guys like thomas, kotsay, and kendall come up big. the a's batting line-up is not dissimilar to what the yanks had during their run. just a lot of small ball hitters. scutaro even had a big hit today. chvez doesn't even have a hit yet. he needs to pikc it up. but he's been real awful in the post season. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Mark Ellis broke his finger in today's game. He'll be available if they advance, but he's done for this round.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 d'angelo jiminez is his replacement. man, that actually kinda sucks. guess crosby may be available for the next round, too. i personally like that the a's have taken the first two games. everyone leaped face first onto the twins bandwagon, and immidiately wrote off the a's because of what they did a few years ago. only 2 guys from those teams are left. its a new culture. i just hope they can go through. Bored 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 And the broken finger is on his right hand so I'd have to wonder if his posteason is done. The A's have no infield depth at the moment so hopefully Mr. Glass is available for the ALCS, if they advance.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 What about the 2000, and 2002, and 2003 As? Jeremy Giambi was SAFE Miguel Tejada was AWARDED home plate, right before being called OUT at home. Neither call would have been made had the A's opponents not been the mighty Yankees or everyone's favorite losers....the Sawx.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Mike, I know the A's had some bad breaks and luck, but Giambi was clearly out on that play.

He was clearly out because he was a moron and didn't try to slide. The 2001 World Series DVD has a frame by frame replay of the play- he's obviously out

I am a bitter A's fan, so it is hard to take what I say to heart whenever playoff time comes around.
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 It's official, Ellis is done for the postseason and any chance of Crosby coming back has been ruled out. So it's D'Angelo Jimenez for the rest of the playoffs at 2nd and Hiram Boccachica, who's primarily an outfielder, as the back up middle infielder. A's have no other infielders on their 40 man roster. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Justin Morneau was the first Twin since 1987 to hit 30 home runs. I didn't realize until now that Torii Hunter also hit 31 home runs this season.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Yeah, they seemed more interested in showing the A's dugout than the game itself during the highlights on Wednesday. And damn, I didn't realize the game had already started. It's looking like the A's may be the first to advance.
