Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I don't know if it's so much the Cards looking impressive (although, there have been some nice defensive plays) as it is the Padres just being awful with RISP.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I don't know if it's so much the Cards looking impressive (although, there have been some nice defensive plays) as it is the Padres just being awful with RISP. That what happens when people like Russel Branyan and Mark Bellhorn get up and big spots and have to deliver.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Is Berman going to be calling this whole series? *mute button*
naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 The Pads lost their mojo when Bochy shaved the 'stache.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 That was ugly. I'm amazed that Wilson even scored on such a hard-hit ball.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Pujols drives in the first run with a single and then escapes a rundown to get to second base. 1-0 Cardinals. Part of the problem was the cutoff guy, who might have batted down a perfectly good throw home. Sure, it got Pujols into a rundown, but it seemed like the rest of the infield was a little surprised that they were attempting a play at second base there. devo 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Walker makes an amazing stop, but isn't even able to make a throw to first as Edmonds drives in Pujols with an infield single. 2-0 Cards.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Edmonds drives in Pujols with an infield hit, thanks to Walker blowing the transfer from his glove (great dive, though). 2-0 Cardinals, and about five runs away from having a decent lead for Weaver. jwest27 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 I can't believe Jeff Weaver hasn't given up a run yet. This is way more than I could've hoped for.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 The NL West should be banned from the playoffs.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Not to beat a dead horse, but does anyone here think that even one of these National League teams could have sniffed the playoffs in the American League?
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 5, 2006 The Mets would have. Maybe the Cards, if Pujols was healthy all year, could have hit 80 HR's or something. Other than that, not looking good.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 On the other hand, the Mets were spanked in interleague play this year. American League teams would have feasted on that pitching staff. There is no way that team was better than say, the Red Sox, and we saw how mediocre they were this year.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 5, 2006 The Mets were also stuck playing the cream of the crop in the AL East, though.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 I can't believe this is the same Cards pitching staff that was in such shambles all season. ONE run in 18 innings?
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Isn't that the whole point behind the question, though? It's not like the Mets wouldn't play those teams if they were in the Amercian League anyway. And Wainwright gets him looking for the final out in the ninth and a win for the Cards. Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Isn't that the whole point behind the question, though? It's not like the Mets wouldn't play those teams if they were in the Amercian League anyway. But, they could also beat up on the Devil Rays. Plus, I think the National League is at a significant disadvantage with the DH.

J. Hungerford Smith 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I can't believe this is the same Cards pitching staff that was in such shambles all season. ONE run in 18 innings? And that one run was surrendered by Carpenter, crazy huh?
jwest27 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Hey, no Chris Berman! Instead we get treated to Joe Morgan......man what. Ahahaha, second and third with no outs and Brian Giles at the plate, he's talking about manufacturing runs.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 I think I can live with Miller and Morgan screwing up names. As long as I don't have to hear Berman talk about "young" Chris Duncan or ramble off some useless football analogy for two minutes without taking a breath, I am content. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Considering what Dave Roberts has done in this series, it's crazy to think he's scored one run in two and a half games.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 This game could be a lot worse, as it seems like the Padres have had runners on second and third in every single inning. Given that we're looking at four innings of bullpen, I'm not optimistic.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 That Pujols at-bat was a great example of why Joe Morgan blows.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 What was the reason for taking out the only Padre to get a hit with RISP in the series in favor of a guy who didn't even play the last couple weeks of the season because of an injury that affected his hitting? Just John 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 What was the reason for taking out the only Padre to get a hit with RISP in the series in favor of a guy who didn't even play the last couple weeks of the season because of an injury that affected his hitting? They wanted their "best defensive lineup" on the field. Don't know if I agree with the call, but it didn't hurt them today, so no problem I guess.
