cd213 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 So, anybody hear about Pujols talkin' shit about Tom Glavine, saying that the other nite Glavine didn't pitch that well and wasn't foolin' any of the Cardinals' hitters? He said that Glavine was just doing what he always does...throwing changeups and fastballs and the Cardinals were all over him but just couldn't get any breaks. Sorry, Albert, I don't agree... Yeah, I saw that. Just sounds like sour grapes to me. Sounds like 'Roid rage to me. That being said, if Glavine pitches as poorly as he did in game 1 today (or tomorrow depending on rain), the Mets will have that game won. Albert doesn't talk for 5 or 6 years and the first thing he says makes him sound like the bigest ass in baseball next to Bonds. He should just shut his mouth, keep shooting up that HGH and fill the seats. I had minimal respect for this guy yo begin with, and I have lost whatever respect I had left. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Why did you have minimal respect for him to begin with?
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 While Pujols' statement does sound dumb, the way he delivered it in context was different than how it reads. He didn't mean to disrespect Glavine's ability, but moreso wanted to call out himself and his teammates (i.e. they had a chance to hit him, but couldn't deliver). It's not like he shit all over the guy. How could you not have respect for the guy? He's never really done anything bad before. Roid rage? That's a ridiculous statement. Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Yeah, Pujols was more or less damning himself and the team-mates for not getting it done. Glavine, was being Glavine and meant to the Cardinals that they should have beaten him because they knew what to expect and that Glavine was actually "off", and his team failed to capitalize. devo 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 The game's probably going to be postponed. It's not supposed to stop raining until very late at night.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 I work in downtown St. Louis, just a couple of blocks away from the stadium, and I can tell you that it's been raining all day. I would be very surprised if the game was played tonight.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 It's official. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb...mp;series=lcs_b I had heard Carpenter might pitch Game 5 in this situation. Anyone else know anything about that?
NYU 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 LaRussa said in his press conference today that Weaver would still pitch tomorrow night. That way, all his pitchers get four days of rest. Of course, he could change that frame of thinking by tomorrow night, but it would be a bad idea. Throwing in Carpenter for tomorrow seems way too panicky.
the max 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 Yeah, if he goes with Carpenter, he's shooting in the dark for game 6 and possibly seven. At least if he throws Weaver, he has a fighting chance of having Carpenter starting an elimination game. Throw Carpenter and lose and you have Jeff Weaver starting an elimination game. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 The thing that would work in his favor is Carpenter being better at home than away. But another thing, if Carpenter starts tomorrow, he'll probably be available for Game 7 (if necessary). Yeah, it would be on two days, but he'd be able to throw a few innings, well more likely to throw a few innings than if he were to start Game 6.
NYU 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 And then you'll completely blow Carpenter out to the point that it could actually hurt his efficiency in the World Series if the Cards make it there. This isn't the Schilling/Johnson situation here. The Cards and the Mets can't afford to throw everything away, considering they have a surging Tigers to play next round. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 This saving shit for the next round isn't the way to go. Torre did that with Wang, instead of using him in Game 4, and that ended up being the last game of the season. You have to get there first. Plus, I think he'd be in line for Game 3 of the World Series anyway.
NYU 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 (edited) You can not pitch Carpenter, give him three days rest, pitch him again, give him one day rest, and then pitch him again. It wouldn't work. You don't potentially head into the World Series with your best pitcher -- your only good consistent pitcher, in fact -- exhausted with a workload he's never had to face before. But hey, let LaRussa do it. Doesn't bother me. Edited October 17, 2006 by NYU
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 I'm sure he has a throwing day one of those days anyway. It's not like he'd pitch nine innings in Game 7. It's just as a just incase Suppan isn't effective. I rather have Carpenter waiting in the wings than whoever else they have (yes even on two days rest). Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 Torre did that with Wang, instead of using him in Game 4, and that ended up being the last game of the season. Yeah, Torre needs to properly utilize Wang if they want to come again next year

devo 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2006 'STACHE~! A two-run double from Valentin puts the Mets up 2-0. Edit: Bah. Well, Glavine's streak of scoreless innings and Pujols' streak of homerless games had to come to an end eventually.

NYU 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2006 Okay, so Glavine completely crumbled under the pressure here. This was supposed to be the one game where the Mets bullpen got a rest.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2006 If the Mets don't win this one, I don't like their chances for games six and seven. Darren Oliver is NOT a quality starter.
NYU 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2006 No, this is an absolute must-win game. Carpenter will not pitch tomorrow night how he pitched Game 2. Maine likely will pitch around the same. And Oliver starting Game 7 is very, very shaky.
