HD-DVD or Blu-Ray?

Recommended Posts

Wait for a dual format player to come out, I am sure the public and the comps will not do yet another VHS/Betamax war. I am not buying shit until something plays both formats.

if they can't settle on one format, fuck em. I didn't jump to DVDs until they were taking up half the video store. Same thing with whatever new format there is.

Bottom line they're going to need to make the next format have lots of real improvements. Simply improving the resolution isn't cutting it for me. Especially when I need to buy a SPECIAL FUCKING TV SET just to watch it.

Give me a format where I can fit an entire season of a TV show on one disc/unit, in super crystal clear quality, in a format that I don't have to worry about scratches or degredation, and I'll consider it, until then, i'm stayin with DVDs.

TV on High Def disc formats will still span several discs for newer shows that were shot in HD, as I doubt they'll go to the trouble to re-release them in SD on just one disc when SD versions are already out. Older shows that weren't in HD might fit one one disc, especially if you're talking Blu-Ray.

The only people interested right now are early adopters. People who have had HD tv sets for a while would appreciate the HD quality of the movies, I know I love watching movies on HD Net or Universal HD.

I still stick by Blu Ray winning with larger capacity discs and the PS3 giving them faster penetration into households. But I think its going to be at least 2 years before players are cheap enough that people get really interested in either format. What it might take is a gutsy studio with a high profile release to say, if you want anything more than just the movie, by the HD version by putting out bare bones discs for DVD. That might piss some people off, but it would at least give the HD versions an tangible advantage over the DVD versions. Right now, people only figure that the picture quality is better and, if they dont have a HD TV, whats the point...

Yes.

And BR might be able to hold 50 GB of data, but they aren't using them. HDDVD has TrueHD, which I am told sounds amazing (my receiver doesn't support it), but BR doesn't. Go HD, I am telling you. I'll get into more detail later why.

The surround sound benefits are pointless to me, I dont have surround sound and since Im practically deaf in my left ear it makes no sense for me.

I will not upgrade until they either come put with a dual player, or one of the brands die off.

By that time, the holographic discs will be close to being out..they store 10x as much as a BluRay disc supposedly..at some point it gets pointless because what the hell can you do with 500 gb on one disc?

The Dual Players will never happen unless one company surrenders and some sort of compromise is allowed to at least seem consumer friendly..as long as they are both still going there wont be a dual player out, or at least a legal one.

But as stated earlier by myself: People were burned by the VHS vs Betamax and spent hundreds on a format that died after a couple of years. FUCK THAT! The masses of people are not going to going into ANOTHER FUCKING format war because people will just not buy anything until they figure what is the next big thing.

Look at the multi format disc. Not many people bought DVD+ or a DVD- drives. They waited and bought dual formated drives to not be bothered with the bullshit.

You're going to have to get A SPECIAL FUCKING TV SET just to watch regular broadcast TV in the next couple years, you know. Or at least a digital tuner/conversion box thingy.

All HD signals you recieve are compressed. The more storage that is available the less compression has to be used. Based on that alone there is a lot more room for HD to "improve" given more storage capacity.

And just think with a huge capacity you could have an entire series on one dvd in HD. Now that would be the shit!

I don't know if I wanna see porn in HD...some things are left best a little less clear

When the black beautiful women make it clap I want to see every single wave roll and I also want to see every single freckle on Anne Body.

Truth. That's why VHS won the war with Betamax.

being cheaper helped too.

HD Porn = Greatness

indeed

I don't think that many people got burned by Betamax loosing, since Betamax lost because so few people were buying Betamaxes.

I think HD will catch on more, because mainstream people will think "HD-DVD, Oh it's DVDs in HD!" and they'll think "Blue-ray, wtf does that mean?"

I already heard some people ask what "blu-ray" is. People keep saying, it's "HD only better"

Probably because the name "blu-ray" seems so high tech. ;)
